the BBC one who always seems proud about her ignorance and seemingly doesn't try to learn.

Ignorance or just asking the sorts of questions that the more casual viewer would ask? Kat Downes is a general sporting journalist and she covers other sports as well. Robin Cousins is the expert but it's common to have a less specialised sidekick in sporting commentary. I think that approach makes sport more accessible.

Mark is good at commentary but the skating 'techo babble' could be offputting to someone who only watches the bbc coverage of the world championships once a year or even just the Olympics every 4 years. It's important those viewers are served as well- the BBC is meant to be a public service.

I think there are two pairs spots for Euros yes! Which is great.

Caught up on the morning pairs sessions - agree that the baby pair Emily and Callum look really nice together.

Lots of great shorts from the pairs, Ana and Luke looked really confident. Harry and Lydia did too it was just a shame about the fall because I really enjoyed their performance!

How nice it was to have 4 advanced novice ice dance couples, it was fun to see the comparison. Juniors were great - nice looking new team as well as Ash and Atl doing their fabulous thing.

Seniors are going great so far, some fun nationals scoring (lol I love Lilah and Lewis, they looked fabulously sharp, was that Tessa I caught sight of)

Side note they have Aurelia Ippolito on the commentary for the ice dance, she is doing a really nice job!
Yes, you did spot Tessa - she was there today.

I don't mind at all commentators asking and explaining about the basics, I am ignorant about plenty of it, I think the issue is when it starts to feel like the commentator is ignorant to the point of lacking any interest, and sometimes talking about the sport in a way that just gives wrong information - I have a memory of one forgetting that the short programme and free skate scores both counted and then having to correct themselves, things like that. That can start to come across a bit... careless.

It's a bit of a fine line sometimes, because yes it's their job not their hobby and yes they need to make it accessible. And there are plenty of experts that forget to do their research.

Miserable weather outside, I am enjoying being cozy indoors watching some nice baby ice dancers. Some great new teams, and Ash and Atl in fine form, I had to rewind just to watch the pick-up for their last lift again  Ash's dress is looking fabulous also

Looking forward to the seniors next

So happy for Nina! I don't think she has ever been to an ISU championship before? Fingers crossed she will finally get to go!

The senior ice dance competition was lovely, I love them all, so glad we can send 3 teams to Euros. Lilah and Lewis I hope they get plenty of rest so they can be just as on point next weekend, Phebe and James have my heart, Layla and Liam look great together... I missed some of the pairs but Harry and Lydia had a wonderful free skate...

Pairs is looking healthy. Ana and Luke didn't have their best skate and Lucy and Kyle had a couple of small mistakes, but both teams still much improved. I think both Novice pairs skated pretty much as well as they could. It will be interesting to see how things develop in seniors the next couple of years. Things are coming together nicely for Harry and Lydia, although Ana and Luke are generally still stronger. Lucy and Kyle are probably making the fastest progress at the moment and I think Kyle might be about to age out of juniors. On current progress they have the potential to catch up with Harry and Lydia.

I'm torn between being really pleased for Nina and sorry for Kristen. Had she been at full fitness, it might have been a different result. They have both worked so hard for so long and have always been behind Natasha. I kind of wish they could both have the chance now.

Very pleased with how Freddie and Ken Fitterer did. Hopefully Freddie is becoming more consistent now. He seems to be transitioning to seniors well. Seniors is a bit more of jump for Connor but his performance skills have improved a lot.

Arabella also did well to medal in what was only her second senior event including the qualifier. She now needs to build more experience and confidence at senior level.

For sure, so unfortunate she was injured again so recently, I hope Kristen can stay healthy and stick around for a good few seasons more. I am never not impressed by her fight.

Arabella seemed to grow as her programme went on

But Kat Downes working on the BBC isn't actually like you describe at all. She's being characterised as ignorant in certain comments but she clearly does do her research to a degree. I can only think of one commentator recently who's remotely like like (and he got fired and doesn't do it anymore).

But, I took it as meaning that Christian would be coaching and Graham training.
Just in case you're curious... they moved to my rink. Both are coaching, but Graham is still training, too--and it's very cool to watch. In one of his comments on this Instagram post, he says, "I’m currently recovering from an injury, but the season is not over yet." So if he's not back this season, hopefully next?

That is good to hear. Not that Graham is injured, but that he is still training and planning to come back.

And that is so cool that they are now based in your rink. It must be so exciting to have an elite level skater training at your rink. OK, so he may be representing a different country, but it is always nice to be able to have somebody local to cheer on at the big international competitions.

By the way, I love your avatar. You can't beat Snoopy!

Thank you for your reply. And please keep us posted if anything interesting happens.

:thank:
