indeed. it's subjective.

that's the problem. if there is a wait for your turn game, especially for instance as there is a number 1 team in your own country and you are stuck below (like LaLa for their entire career since they won Junior worlds) it should be for everyone... which is not the case here.

I find him fabulous. I find her strong and a brilliant athlete but not as fabulous on the blades yet.
I like them. It's nothing against them. I just don't like the judges LOL
Agree about everything except of the "wait for your turn game" - it's an absurd game, I'm sick of it and we should get rid of it instead of apply for everyone.

I hate the wait for your turn game... my point is more like if it exists for some, it should be even for everyone... I would like it gone too but I guess I am too cynical to even believe it will happen and that's why I am saying it should be for everyone LOL

Dick Button once commented about this...during a 1980 pairs event - You don't have to wait your turn when you are really good, it is only when you are equal with the others

I tried to find the original quote, but it is seared into my memories
well... it is really subjective.

I find my LaLa exceptional dancers. They do not always have the best programs but they are different. They have already been to two olympics... how much longer do they have to wait ?

It's definitely their time. Who else can take the Canadian guard now? I wish they change coaches but it seems unlikely, where even could they go? To Scott? Ironically, loosing IAM backing probably could hurt them even if it did nothing good for them at all. Deadlock. Maybe within IAM team they can find a right soul to get behind them? And maybe at least try to work with different choreographers? Just thinking. My favourite program of them is still Warsaw Concerto from their junior times and that's the only one that really made them justice imo.

They might try:

Closer, more interesting holds
Music the audience connects to
Trying to express every beat of the music they choose
Having uniquely interesting material
Any unique moves anywhere in their program

And most of all, realize that just because good speed and good edges excuses boring programs, with little sensitivity to the music or the beat, with basic holds and basic transitions, works if your name is Cizeron, it does not work if it isn't.

I continue to believe that they shot themselves in the foot with the RD they had this year. Nothing about that says “we are a top team and must be taken seriously.”

Their FD is not exactly groundbreaking, either. I think what they need to move forward is, first, better material, that shows their strengths.

I agree their material is not optimal this year.

I agree with all of this except for musicality which I find they have

I loved the parrots and Michael Jackson programs too... but the last couple years, yeah... not great programs

they cannot go anywhere else than to Scott if they were to choose but they are IAM babies... they were brought up there when we called it Gadbois... So they are not going anywhere I am sure.

I am sad because they have the skills and command of the ice to skate to a lot of things yet they get what seems like second thought programs.

Maybe IAM didn't invest on them since Montreal worlds (they were 5th and had great programs that year) because they had enough contenders and they knew Piper and Paul would be Canada's number one team... but now, it's really time to invest on LaLa and make sure they stand out.

I think the comparison with Smart & Dieck is really instructive. The LaLas’ technical skills far exceed Smart & Dieck’s IMO. But Smart & Dieck are more performance-oriented and have much more memorable material, which suits them. You see which of the two teams is getting results in excess of their technical ability level.

yeah and since it's a sport, technical skills should matter a tad more :)

Thank you, Uncle Dick! Too bad he's not here to enjoy Z/K. I can even now hear his "wuh-ho!"

Yay for Yoshida/Morita personal best!

But what happened to Lauriault/Le Gac, didn't expect to see them in 20th position - at first I thought 2 🇨🇦 teams had qualified

I’ve also thought that since Marjorie has an acting background, it might be effective to have her work on projecting and developing characters. This has really helped CPom.
Zac might not have it in him, but I’d bet that Marjorie does!
LOL
What the media say and what the reality says.
Marjorie was a child actor of mostly commercials.. she's not Shakespeare specialist. Zach has much more in him than what people may imagine but it's at another level, the not in your face level. I see this a lot with classically trained musicians. The expression is not shallow but deeper. I find him very musical on the ice and I am picky. But some people like gimmicky in your face expression. I hope Zach doesn't turn into that. In classical music we work very hard on subtle expression, on being not too literal etc. So perhaps he is too subtle for this sport but he is clearly expressive in my perception. In some ways, Patrick Chan was deemed as "boring" when all I could see what how every single part of his body was expressing music... and every glide, every edge... but some people prefer facial expressions.

We disagree there. I think since it's dance, I think attention to dancing is of higher importance than speed. I am fine with giving credit for edges.

If speed were super important in the early 1980's Torvill's & Dean would have been beaten by Bestemianova & Bukin every time.

extra revolution in synch twizzles and a couple minor bobbles ruined their TES
