2023 Junior Worlds: Men | Thoughts | Golden Skate

2023 Junior Worlds: Men | Thoughts

My thoughts about the men : if I enjoyed all the other events this week, men, and that's my favourite discipline, was a big disappointment...Good skates were rare across both the SP and LP. Naoki indeed performed well but his jumps are wild, so not exactly my cup of tea. Kao deserved this win but he was less impressive (IMHO) as when he won 4CC. Bummed for Wesley who did so well but for some obscure and doubtful strategy went for two quad toes when he has been having trouble landing them all year... and clearly, didn't need them in such field. It is disappointing because I enjoyed junior men a lot all season on JGP... I guess nerves got in the way for many. :ghug:

All in all, I thought the performances were not memorable.

Certainly, none of them will make The Pile for future rainy days.

I semi-discovered Martynov and his excellent 3As, and I was introduced to the young Swede Nordeback (sp?), so the event wasn't a total waste.
