2024-2025 Chinese Figure Skating

Another Chinese girl with 3A potential:

Just for clarification, this is the same girl you posted yesterday. Shuxian is also the reigning Junior & Senior National champion, and placed 4th at JGP Wuxi last season. She'll likely be on the JGP circuit again this season, as she placed 4th at the selection competition.

(Ruiyang Zhang, who placed 3rd, is Senior eligible and might get the Cup of China host spot instead.)

Ruiyang Zhang, Zhang / Huang and Wang / Liu will be going to the Olympic qualifier.

The remaining Cup of China host spots will likely go to Zhiming Peng (men), Ruyiang Zhang and Xiangyi An (women), Zhang / Huang (pairs) and Wang / Liu (ice dance).
There is one more pairs host spot, which might go to Wang / Zhu, but could also be given to a non-Chinese pairs team as W/Z withdrew from this competition due to injury. The team has also not competed at any of the five Interclub League competitions.

Scoring, as so often in Chinese domestic competitions, was interesting. I struggle to see how most of these skaters would score similarly internationally, particularly some of the top skaters (Wang / Liu, for example).

wait theyre chosing zhang/huang over sui/han? is this confirmed?

Sui/Han didn't compete for the spot and entries are due Friday. I'm assuming that means that Sui/Han are not ready to compete yet.

Zhang/Huang would be the better choice since they've competed internationally early in the season, winning the Asian Trophy with a score of 190.23. Sui/Han haven't competed since the 2022 Olympics. It wouldn't make sense to send a team that hasn't competed in three years over a team that has had solid scores early in the season and has shown that they're ready.

With that score, Zhang/Huang should also be one of the favorites to take one of the spots in the OG qualification.

So how does this work? Can Sui and Han still go to the olympics even if they don't earn China the spot? So in other words some other team from China earns the spot and they can waltz in and go to the olympics to defend their title?

Aside from a few cases, and the AIN athletes, athletes are earning a spot for their *country* and not themselves. So, yes, Sui/Han still have a chance to go because the Chinese Olympic team hasn't been decided.

The pair that won the spot seemed to be very aware of that fact in one of their interviews as well.

Yes, Sui and Han can go to the Olympics if their federation chooses them and if they earn the required technical scores by the required date.

Let's wait and see if they show up, and how they skate, at their GP assignments. They could, of course, go elsewhere to earn their technical scores, but I think that it's unlikely they would be Olympics-ready if they aren't GP-ready.

men, pairs and dance are quite obvious, women is more open
I honestly think only dance is obvious.

Women's is only between Yi (Beverly) and Ruiyang based on Nini's skating so far this season. I'd give Ruiyang the edge, she beat Yi two or three times this season already.
Daiwei's SB of last season and Yudong's SB so far this season are basically tied (both 237), and Boyang's SB of last season isn't that far off either (231, so about 6 points lower). All three of these skaters are not consistent at all, so anything could happen.
And pairs will depend a lot on Sui/Han's condition, and we've only seen one sbs jumping pass of them so far (3T+2A+2A (Wenjing)/3T+1A+1A (Cong)).
