Thanks and now let's hope that Skate Canada uses all their spots... (looking at pairs in particular)

We know that Skate Canada will most likely send 6 different women.
For men, what do you think will happen ? Some getting 1 spot, some others getting 2?
Who should get 2 ?

I would imagine it's the to find a viable. the latter in this case. I don't see why Skate Canada would hold on to her when they apparently not holding on to Lori-Ann who was more accomplished.
Yes, thanks for responding. It is just surprising after the recent partnering announcement. It seems that Chloe had waited patiently for a long time to find a viable partner. I'm curious about that process for her. And surely she and Ginaux tried out well enough to know how they felt with each other before making their pairing official with a public announcement. Chloe's tech issues on jumps are not a secret either. So, perhaps she moved to France and then she experienced second thoughts? 🤔 Of course, it could be anything.

Reminds me of Gabbie Izzo abruptly retiring without citing any reasons (which of course, I respect that no skater has to publicly explain their choices). In Gabbie's case, it was likely a number of factors, including adjusting to a new country, a new discipline, partner (Thierry Ferland), and training rink, while not knowing when she would get her release; and likely missing her boyfriend who was dealing with shoulder surgery and rehab at that time. Plus, Gabbie had already extensively searched for a U.S. partner to no avail. After some time away, Gabbie was apparently ready to give pairs another try, or else sources reached out to her directly. Although it has not been officially announced, Gabbie is apparently paired with Luc Maierhofer of Austria, and they are coached by former Austrian pairs skater, Severin Kiefer!

It is often the case recently that new partnerships are never announced; the skaters are simply rumored or seen to be training together and then they turn up at their first competition. Plus, retirement announcements do not always signal the end... In Chloe Panetta's case, it does sound final, though, as if she'd held out hope, but has finally closed the book on her competitive career.

It's been like this for quite a while now... try-outs... falling through... then the skaters may or may not reappear with another partner... for another country... Gabbie Izzo looked so happy and enthusiastic when she attended (as a spectator) CQÉ with Thierry, Lori-Ann and Noël-Antoine last year.... anything can happen in Pairs, and it can happen quickly :)

For those switching clubs and countries, it may be overwhelming and make them realise that they probably don't want that life, far away from what they are used to etc... The sacrifices are sometimes just too much.

Remember the Daleman -Zabiiako stunt ?

Zabiiako seemed very happy to be at Eastbourne watching over Kasaktina in the finals yesterday... won over one of my faves Leylah Fernandez...

Now, I am looking forward to seeing McIntosh Zandron team... for Spain? Do we know more ?

I looked back at the men to see what happened last year (11 spots overall, so 1 more spot than this season.)

David Li was the only man to get two assignments (Austria (2nd event) and Armenia (7th event)). He finished 9th at NextGen, but then won silver at Cranberry Cup and had the highest score on the JGP of the men. I'm guessing 1 initial assignment and then any possible 2nd assignment will be based on performance during the JGP.

Happy Canada 🇨🇦 day everyone!!!

What does Canada have to do to get out of category C in the girls category?
Would Canada have had more spots if Lulu Lin had finished in 7th place instead of 10th place?

For boys, didn’t Canada lose a spot? I remember sometimes two Canadian boys were sent to a JGP event. I think David Li was sent to a second spot because they ran out of boys to send. There are domestic benchmarks and for the boys it was 170.

For girls, I expect them to send six different girls, unless one of them places in 4th place or higher, at their first event. But, that will be difficult as Japan and Korea and USA athletes are difficult to surpass.

For boys, I think it will depend on NextGen. I hope they send ten different boys for the experience. My worry is that with Wesley and now Aleksa gone, that we may fall to C Category. I’m hoping Anthony Paradis shines this year to save us. 🙏

As for Pairs and dance, I love how we excel in disciplines of partnerships. Lots of opportunities for our teams to medal at JGP in these events.

Also, what is our next domestic event?

Must be ONT sectionals in July followed
By NextGen. I need to make sure I don’t take vacation during those two events 🫣

To get to Category B this season, the lowest placement for it was 8th (USA). So 7th-8th would be the placement for it, and then crossing fingers that other countries would relinquish spots.

Not so much as lost a spot as more not as many reallocated spots as last season. The domestic benchmarks also depend on number of eligible years. 170 for 3 or more years, 210 for 2 years or less.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes this season since 5 men who had a 3A and/or quad aged out. That leaves David Bondar and Edward Vasii as the junior eligible men who have a 3A stable enough for competition. I thought David Bondar looked improved at Lake Placid, and had the highest FS score of the junior eligible Canadian men last week even with the 3A bonus. Hopefully Anthony will get his 3A this season too.

Sigh…. I felt that Lulu was underscored in the SP cause she skated so early…
Cause she had a lower ranking due to never being sent out, but, once. Her 3T 3T< should have been a 3T 3Tq and her PCS score should have been a whole point higher…. Which, would have placed her 7th overall 🥺

I forgot about Edward. Ok. With Anthony and him and David B., we have some hope.

And I forgot John Kim, who won the SP at Challenge and Nationals with his 3A. It doesn't help he hasn't been on the JGP. Maybe he'll be at NextGen.

How does this work, I wonder? Hetty Shi is going to be coached by two of the top coaches in the world, who are based in separate countries? 🤔 Wow, she has that kind of money and promise? I guess they will be tasked to help individually with distinct aspects of Shi's skating.
