Thanks. I am perhaps not quite patient enough. I was trying to see when Fiona and Ben’s competition would be. Watched them in practice this morning.
They are scheduled at CQÉ but they could also skate earlier.

They're in the interim entry list for Skate Ontario July, and are the only senior pairs team for it right now. They'll be competing both the SP and FP based on the list, since entries are separate for the short and free.

@cohkaix mentioned this in the BC/YK Section Super Series thread. The Chinese Taipei Skating Union posted stories promoting Tasha Lai/Mickey Becker-Pos (Canada, reigning Novice Ice Dance bronze medalists) skating at the competition. It looks like they may be switching there. I've attached screenshots of the stories.
That actually makes sense for them. They have two Junior seasons left, and even if they had managed to get out internationally (this season will be crowded with the new age rules, but next season there will be some thinning out), in Seniors they'd have to compete with a lot of teams for a small number of international assignments (even if some of the older teams like Piper and Paul are likely to retire after the Olympic season).

By switching now, they not only basically have the guarantee to be able to compete internationally, they also have the opportunity to gain some experience and build some reputation before moving to Seniors. Good for them. 😁

even with the new age rules they only have 2 years of junior eligibility. they competed novices last yr and i thought that novices had certain age requirements and that you couldn't be over like 17 even for guys

Yes, even with the new age rules. Tasha is born in April of 2008, Mickey in June of 2005.

Internationally, the age rules are very clear-cut, but at national competitions, things can deviate from the international standard. Within Canada, everyone under the age of 21 can compete in Novice Ice Dance. In Novice Pairs, there are even no age restrictions at all. Of course, many countries also allow skaters below the international Sr age to compete as Seniors domestically (US, Korea, Canada). Other countries follow international rules, for example Germany.

Bashynska/Beaumont reel about their free dance.I don't think it's an announcement. That does sound like Alejandro by Lady Gaga . And Chloe Panetta in the comments saying if it was only the song they used.

well.. it's good they want to show something else... do i like this after the gorgeous Red Violin and Romeo and Juliet ? No. Especially not after disco RDs... but I will stay patient and enthusiastic until they perform it... If anyone can do something interesting with Lady G, it's Carol Lane....

I don't think it will be Lady Gaga in the full version judging by the comment from Chloe Panetta, more setting a vibe to hype it up?

Robert Brodie interview Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha:

While last season’s rhythm dance was a literal “Thriller,” filled with plenty of fun and energy, Lagha agrees the theme for the 2024-25 season — “Social Dances and Styles of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s” — is a blank canvas that he and Lajoie can paint into something equally spectacular.

“It’s definitely as fun or even more fun than it was with Michael Jackson. It’s a thing that everybody is going to know,” he says in offering the smallest of hints about the program. “It’s going to be a lot of work as well, like kind of theatrical work, acting work, as opposed to Michael Jackson, which was more like the feeling of the essence of the music. This one, we have to do a bit more acting.”

Chloe Panetta (Pairs, CAN/FRA?) announced her retirement.

That also means Chloe Panetta/Flavien Giniaux (FRA) split.

Was something with the new partners themselves not working out or was Canadian fed reluctant to give Chloe her release, despite the fact she has not competed for a while?

I would imagine it's the first not the latter in this case. I don't see why Skate Canada would hold on to her when they apparently not holding on to Lori-Ann who was more accomplished.

Thanks to @saine

Entries for JGP have been reallocated.

Canada :
women, 1 per event in 6/7 (didn't change)
pairs, 3 per event for all 4 events (didn't change)
men 1 per event for 4 events, 2 per event for 3 events. (Canada picks up 3 spots, goes from 7 to 10 total)
dance, and this is where the news are good :) Canada was supposed to have only 1 spot per event, now it's 2... So 14 spots in total.
