not bad at all...

this is such a beautiful rink.. it's a shame that there are only like 27.4 people attending... ACI in Pierrefonds is much smaller but always jam packed

After the Cranberry results:

Junior Boys
I hope Grayson, Anthony, David B get two JGP spots. They are way better than the rest of our boys and they can get better by receiving two international events. The rest of the boys, they pick, should only get one event.

Junior Girls
For Junior Girls, I think Hetty or Lulu should stay with just one spot now. Unless, they place in the top 5, at their events, which I doubt, as they are skating a bit worse than last season.
Hetty is automatically in due to NextGen Result and being part of out National Team
Lulu improved from 140+ to 150+; Locked
Kara Yun skated a good free skate at Cranberry. I think she has done enough for a spot
Aleksa was disappointing here; but, her silver medals at the two biggest junior domestic events cannot be ignore and she did place 6th at Next Gen.

I think Reese and Megan did enough with their skates here. Both skated 140+ here just ahead of Kara. I don’t think any of the Junior Girls at Quebec event will surpass 140. So, these two should round up our JGP spots.

As for the senior events, I hope Maddie has a redemption skate. Roman, after a good SP, please focus on clean jumps for the free skate.

The problem has not just been a blip today. I don't believe she landed a clean short last season at all. She seems to be regressing.
This is what is concerning me. I was hoping for a reset in the off season and a re-energised and focussed Maddie to emerge for this season. Unfortunately, what we have seen so far suggests a continuation of last season's trajectory. It could just be 'early season' getting back into the swing of things, but I need to see consistent performances of a higher standard to convince me that this SP was just a blip.

I want the N American challenger to be in Canada every season. It is better having it as a single event and Skate Canada allow a wider audience via their streaming. I have watched some clips that were posted by a fan on youtube and the arena this year is almost empty. I feeling sorry for the skaters. A challenger is a major event. For quite a few of the skaters, getting selected for a challenger is a significant achievement and it is the most prestigious international event they will skate at all season. They deserve to be seen.

163 domestic/152 international for Senior Pairs in the 2023-24 season. I think there is some leeway in it since Quattrochi/Desmarais were assigned to a JGP without having met the 130 score for 3+ years of eligibility for Juniors, plus teams forming and splitting.

For Kemp/Elizarov, they are on the interim Skate Ontario Sectional Qualifying 2024-25 list published yesterday (here). They're under Senior Pairs, so they're moving up domestically. Note: the final list will be published the week of September 2, this is only interim.

NextGen team announced

Kemp/Elizarov and Ariano Kent/Laliberte Laurent are on it. But Vladimir Furman isn't?

Also the NextGen page still has Kemp/Elizarov as representing Manitoba, lol.

Do Hetty and Anthony get double funding ? They are both on next gen and national team :)

Not sure why Vladimir Furnam is out... maybe you need to be called David to be on the list ;)

So Andrew Poje would be coaching with Mylène Girard... Girard has brought up many good ice dancers lately... and they sometimes end up with IAM.

I did some more cross-checking. Also not making it were Megane Vallieres, Caroline Kravets/Aiden Dotzert, Rilee Eby/Jacob Stark and Amelia Dufour-Saysourinho/Anthony MacDonald. The ice dance teams were the bottom 3, Vladimir finished at the bottom, but not Megane :scratch2:

Sugino/Marr's free skate from BC Summerskate:

I'd hoped to see more equality in the choreography for a same-gender dance couple. Not one always taking the man's part and the other always being the one lifted and doing the woman's part in pair spins. There's not that big a size difference between these two to make that split a necessity.

Early days, but I like his music and choreography and interpretation. I've only had a couple of chances to see him live, always in practice sessions, but he seems to always skate better when his music is playing. He listens to his music, not switching it off and on as he sets up elements, and skates with it.

I think it has to do with their suggested terminology for ice dance (from the announcement):

Previously pair and ice dance teams required an entry of a woman and a man. Updated language of ‘skater A’ and ‘skater B’, ‘lifted partner’ and ‘lifting partner’ as well as ‘follow’ and ‘lead’ can all be used to differentiate each athlete.
So it's still in that dynamic and it'll take more time to get into more equality.
