2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

Ice dance I don't have a clue - I don't follow it closely enough.
One of the teams will for sure be Nguyen/Giang. I think Breau/Lee (Korea) are being assigned there, plus Chinese Taipei has a spot they can use for Lai/Becker-Pos, and those three teams share coaches. Plus they're due for a second assignment.

Second team, I'm not sure if they'll give a second assignment to Homick/Buelow or Martins/Kowalcyzk. Maybe they'll give it to the Carandiucs after they were shuffled out of their first assignment.

I think the last spot for the women will go to Kara. She's not entered into the Skate Ontario October competition, which would be close to it.

Plus if they gave David Bondar a second assignment, they'd be able to save money since they share a coach :D He's scored 120+ in his free skates over the summer, I think he's shown enough consistency for that spot. He's entered into Skate Ontario October, but so far none of the skaters with second spots (other than Ice Dance) have withdrawn from their domestic competitions.

John Kim - this is his last year of eligibility as a Junior, he's moving up to Senior domestically in the October competition. I'd like to see him try a Challenger if he keeps improving instead of a second JGP.

Parker is my bet for the last spot for Men (they have two spots at JGP Wuxi for the men.) He's had a good transition to Junior, I think Skate Canada would be interested in giving him the experience.
Excellent post. I think they will give it to Kara too…

Also, i forgot about Parker. Parker has earned it in my opinion. Still hoping David Howes has a chance to take one of the two spots. We need at least two David’s in the JGP circuit.

David Li ;)

indeed : there is no way it would happen for 2026... even 2030 is tights... it's a 6-7 years process apparently. I am not even sure Deanna got hers yet.
It is still unfortunate with them competiting in Seniors, internationally, with the Olympics aside.

well maybe not Lai/Becker-Pos, according to the entry lists for thaliand, TPE has another dance team and it would prolly be wise to use them for china as neither of them are likely to make the final or the top 10 for that matter.

I didn't even notice they had a second team as a substitute :palmf: They don't have any results it looks like? And Yu-Chun Huang looks like he switched to Ice Dance this season, so I'm not sure what the plan is with them now that they have two teams. But I do hope they compete somewhere internationally.

What can be done or should be done to Canada's program before 2025 and Turin. The only event there are competitive in for the Olympics is dance. Without Deanna and Max pairs is ho hum. Madi looks like she has lost interest and there is no one ready or willing to take over. The men isn't much better. A lot of potential from Roman , Wesley and Gogo but they seem to be languishing. Anthony is young but has not really attacked his issues starting the new season. If he can't do the big tricks he better be the next Jason Brown. Michael Slipchuk has his hands full; maybe he needs to go and get some new blood. Two olympics in a row and no team medal. Yikes. Does Canada's Gracie Gold Gabby Daleman have the strength and dedication to come back?

I don't get this negativism. Besides Deanna and Max in Pairs there's Lia and Trennt who are doing good, and a few pairs on the rise as well. Who knows? Granted, the situation with the women looks a little bleak but Madi rose to the occasion in Beijing (in the team competition), and there's talent there coming up. The men's discipline looks to be a drop of the dice, but maybe in a few years time. And Anthony may not have the big tricks (yet) but he's such a joy to watch. Dance is superb, but then that was acknowledged. And the team medal was missed by a hair (or the CAS, but that's a question of opinion and must be let go) last time. Who knows what will happen next? I for one enjoy watching the Canadian skaters, medals or not.

When I look at the talent coming up from the junior ranks, I brush off the negativism. I also think all the banter comes from the major success Canada had until 2018. The sport goes in cycles and it's hard to have a new Patrick Chan or a new Kaetlyn Osmond as soon as the veterans retire.

Finally, comparing Gracie Gold and Gabby Daleman is unfair to both skaters : it belittles their own individual struggles and fight to get back on top.

Minsol Kwon is not on the Skate Ontario Sectional Final Declaration list - https://skateontario.org/wp-content...Jr-Sr-Qualifying-Declaration-Final-Sept-4.pdf

This doesn't mean that she isn't planning on switching. But it does mean that she's not going to be competing to represent Ontario at Challenge/Nationals this season.
Would she need official release to compete in a "national event" I thought it was the same with Uliana... she could do summer domestic but couldn't do nationals (Sectional, Challenge, Nationals) until she was released ?

Parkman was able to skate at US Nationals without his release from Georgia, but that could also be US rules vs Canada rules.

They need special permission to compete at Nationals/National qualifiers if they haven't been released. Sometimes teams get it (Efimova/Blommaert for example), and sometimes they don't (Hase/Volodin), even if the same feds are involved.

I think it may also depend on country's rules as well. We've had skaters compete in GB qualifiers but represent Ireland internationally.

Thanks for the update!!
I was waiting for this…
I just find it strange that she would skip the Korean JGP event without reason
Time will tell……

Yes, that is very common. With so few ice facilities on my island, it is really beneficial for them to compete in as many competitions on the island next door as they can. (Most of them belong to clubs on the island of Great Britain anyway).

Leilah Patten may be another example, if she was indeed representing Bulgaria last season. (The country she was representing in the past few years is a matter of ambiguity).

Did Aleksandra Golovkina (LTU) ever do the British Qualifiers? I know she has done other British domestic events since she started living in the UK.

Sorry for going off topic.
