Nachwuchs is equivalent to ISU Advanced Novices (exception: Nachwuchs Intermediate in Ice Dance is ISU Intermediate Novices). Jugend is not equivalent to any ISU category, it follows the same age requirements as Juniors, but with lower technical content.

Yes, Junior RD on Thursday, Junior FD on Friday.

Day 1 of the German Championships is all about the Jugend (Basic Novice) skaters. 20 A girls; followed by 21 B girls, followed by 5 boys.

You know, I do find it amusing that this is the German Championships, but there is still a selection of national flags hanging from the roof.

Whenever I have watched international events from Oberstdorf, I always assumed they were displaying the flags of the skaters that were taking part. But that is clearly not the case this week.

So, are we seeing a perfect example of German efficiency - getting ready extra early for the Bavarian Open?

Or have they just not taken them down after the Nebelhorn Trophy?

I have to say that I loved the music choices from all of the first 4 girls. A real variety of music, the kind of stuff we don't get to hear on the international circuit.

But, it only took until the fifth skater of the event for us to get our first "Voilà".

Mind you, she did skate it well. In fact, all the skaters so far have been good.

We may only have completed one group, but I am already glad I decided to watch. Even though I will be leaving in just over half an hour for food.

Now what about that for perfect timing. The resurfacing starts just in time for me leaving to eat.

Unfortunately, like the Spanish Championships, this is one of those streams that you can't pause or re-wind. So, I probably won't see any more of the girls in this competition. But, those that I did see were good.

Well, I arrived back during the programme from Skater #18. And although I didn't see the whole programme, it was an absolutly beautiful song that she was skating to. And the sky blue dress was beautiful too.

That was a fun programme from Marietta AYTEKIN (HES), the middle of the three girls from Hesse (albeit from different clubs) that finish off Group 2.

I don't know how many songs were in there, but there were a lot! It was more of a mash-up than a medley. Yet, it worked. And very well at that!

It was far better than the mess that Chock / Bates are using for their Short Dance for this season!

I really enjoyed it!

She goes into 5th position.

But, I'll keep an eye out for the boys starting, so that I can post a reminder. And hopefully get caught up on some of what I have missed before the action starts tomorrow morning.
