2024-25 German Nationals

I've started playing catch-up on the last two groups of the Jugend A girls. And I just had to comment about skater #13, Thea PLONAIT (BER).

I know that a lot of people don't like the masters being messed about with. But that was a very enjoyable re-imagination of Beethoven's "Für Elise" (a piece I love anyway) that she was skating to.

I suspected that it was a piece from The Piano Guys. So I went hunting, and indeed it was:

The Piano Guys - "Für Elise Jam"

She went into what was 8th position at the time.

I have to say that I loved the music choices from all of the first 4 girls. A real variety of music, the kind of stuff we don't get to hear on the international circuit.

But, it only took until the fifth skater of the event for us to get our first "Voilà". :rolleye:

Mind you, she did skate it well. In fact, all the skaters so far have been good.

We may only have completed one group, but I am already glad I decided to watch. Even though I will be leaving in just over half an hour for food.

Can I just re-iterate what I was saying yesterday about the music choices?

The first skater in the final group of the Jugend A Ladies SP, skater #16 Lorin DELI (BAY), was skating to "Beautiful Liar" by Beyoncé and Shakira.

I don't think I've ever seen anybody skating to that song before. But it worked so well!

I tell you, more skaters need to start working with the German choreographers. Because they are being far more imaginative and inventive than the choreographers we are seeing on the international circuit.

She went into what was 6th position at the time.

What's happened to Salatzki/Roeseler? They seem to be missing.
They were originally on the entry list but withdrew. According to their IG stories, there was some sort of injury back in September/October but they were back on the ice in November and training for Nationals (including 3Tw and 3LoTh).
Considering the fact that they were talking about Nationals as recently as the 30th of November and uploaded an IG story showing them working on the 3Tw on the 6th of December, either the injury worsened again or it's illness.
Hoping they'll be healthy again soon. 🙏

Before the Warm-Up started, we saw a gentleman going to his seat carrying a rather large cuddly toy (I think it was a dog).

So, it'll be fun to keep an eye out to see if we can see who is the recipient of it.

Whoever it is, I hope they like it!

The third skater of the day was skating to Muse. But, it wasn't an "Exogenesis Symphony". It was "Supermassive Black Hole".

She was good.

Mind you, I don't like who is sitting beside her. Karel Fayfr.

She goes into the lead.

The dog was for Skater #6!

Given the size of the dog, and working on the assumption that it is being given by a family member, I thought it would be for one of the Bavarian skaters. But, Baden-Wurtemburg is the state next door. So, I don't think it would have been requiring an extra aeroplane seat!

She was wearing a beautiful white dress. I didn't know the song, but it sounded like Miley Cyrus to me.

And she skated beautifully!

She goes into 4th position.

That song should have been Driver's License by Olivia Rodrigo, I think :D And it's really not far from here (Baden-Württemberg) to Oberstdorf 😁

Ah. I haven't actually heard any Olivia Rodrigo songs before. So it is interesting that I thought she sounded like Miley Cyrus.

Anyway, I found the wee girl's Instagram profile, and it has raised questions. Because the most recent album on her page (posted on St. Patrick's Day, as it happens) has photos of her with her coaches, holding a rather large cuddly dog!

It makes you wonder. Is this a case of the same cuddly toy being thrown to a skater by a family member at every competition?

Kinda spoils the surprise, if it is.

Another Baden-Württemberg skater, Juli HERMANN (B-W), did a "Greatest Showman" programme. But, it was not one of the two or three songs from the film that always get skated to. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen anybody skate to this song.

I enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, she goes into 9th and last position.

Are you going to be in Obersdorf at any stage this week?

Whether you are in attendence or watching online, I hope you enjoy the event!

I can tell you something - I am really enjoying what I've seen so far yesterday and today! And I hope this is a good sign for the future of German skating.

Not going to be there, sadly. I'm watching from home.

I hope so too. Especially with Men and Women, I think we really need that. We have a few good Juniors coming up but until they'll be skating Seniors, it will be a while...

I absolutely loved that programme from skater #11, Joceline Maria IYEKE (HES)!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

She was skating to Indian music. And wearing a modern take on traditional Indian dress.

And I thought she skated it really well.

She was really happy when waiting for her scores. But was disappointed when they came through.

She goes into 5th position.

Mmmm. Jekaterina BRINSTER (B-W) skated well, and her black jumpsuit fitted in with the theme of the programme.

But, I really did not like this version of the "Mission: Impossible" music.

Maybe it is because I am used to the version used on the TV series. I haven't actually seen any of the films, because I wanted to watch the TV series first, and it was only this year that it was finally repeated on British TV. And no doubt the people behind the films decided to put their own stamp on the music. With this being an example of it.

She goes into 3rd position.

Everybody knows that I don't like Billie Eilish music.

But I absolutely love this rock cover of "Bad Guy" that Valeria HUBER (B-W) is skating to!!!

Well, the "I'm the bad guy" line could be better.

I always thought it was the songs themselves that I didn't like. But, this cover proves that it is actually a decent song. So, it must be what Billie Eilish does with it that I don't like.

Anyway, she was wearing a jumpsuit which was mainly black, but had a yellow parts in the top half.

She skated well, and goes into 5th postition.

I looked at her ISU Bio to check her age, and now I am looking forward to her FS. She's doing a Shakira medley!

 It's exactly the other way around with me. I LOVE Billie, but can't stand that song

I burst out laughing when I posted my comment, and the comment you put up while I was writing appeared! How different could our takes on the same music be?!

It is differences in opinion like this that makes life so fun and interesting.

Life would be so boring if we all liked the same things.

But I'm right on this!  ;)
