2024-25 GPF: Women's Thoughts?

I am still of the opinion that the term "skare's skater" refers mainly to the admiration of aspects of skating that the general public knows nothing about. Of course an individual might have skills that other skaters appreciatee and also have big exciting jumps or beautiful presentation or on-ice personality.

To me, Michelle Kwan was not a "skater's skater." She was a "people's skater." Nobody went on and on about the depth of her edges or the precision of her turns (well, she did have a nice flowing edge out of her double Axel :) )

What she did do was capture the heart of a nation. A "people's skater."

I think so, it's absolutely mutually exclusive. I can't remember anyone who was hailed as a skater's skater that I could stand (the skating, not the person. all athletes deserve respect). I am basically a lithmus test there, and I am telling you, Amber Glenn is NOT a skater's skater. Her 3A and energy is the proof. No way, no way she is the skater's skater.
Kaori was a skater's skater until she started winning all the gold.

So is it mutually exclusive? Like a skater's skater is by definition underrated by the public and appreciated by other skaters and experts only? Or can one be both a skater's skater and a people's skater?
Yep, and what that rare and special athlete is called is a G.O.A.T.

Like when a commentator like Kurt says "I wish I could explain to you how wonderful this (or that) really is..." while the audience is also seeing wonderful if not as subtle this's and thats. I'm not sure Amber did anything that couldn't be seen and understood by Luddites like me though...

I love Amber. She has worked and worked and worked and worked loooong after I would have thrown my hands up in the air.
She deserves everything she’s getting.
I'll caveat here, I'm really uncomfortable with a skater being deemed deserving because of the work they have put in, to me it sounds like a little like saying those who don't get the big rewards haven't put in the hard yakka when we know full well that every single one of her competitors and hundreds of others in the different competitions have done so just as hard and some of them longer.

Amber deserves it because she was the best on the day. I hope there are many more days to come when we can say that.

Yes, definitely. I think what she's really trying to say is that she never gave up after many years, and now here she is.

one of Amber's biggest strengths that the average fan might not realize is how freaking STRONG she is. she is so powerful. that's one of the biggest things i appreciate about her skating, her jumps in particular and the "acrobatic" moves she can do. she has that super quick twitch muscle strength that is so key.
This.
Athleticism of this young women is insane. She's doing cartwheel on one hand, on frickin fingers. of her hand. After having spent so much power on jumping passes in her free, she's capable of such a strength-consuming step sequence and powerful entry in the closing spin... I can't believe she made it.

The first time I actually noticed how strong and powerful she was was at Cranberry Cup when I was seated in the Tenley Albright (best seat). It’s night and day between seeing her on TV or from the handicapped seats and seeing all that power, speed and strength headed right toward you on the ice at eye level. My jaw dropped.
