I hope Vaipan-Law and Digby get a second spot, but I don't know how likely this is
If they follow the replacement list, the spot should go to Geynish/Chigirev (UZB) based on their result from John Nicks Challenger. There are still few other pairs in front of Vaipan-Law/Digby.

Efimov/Mitrofanov already have two spots. The Usbek pair are next and should be offered the Skate Canada spot and whatever comes up next after that. Once the Usbek pair have two spots it will move down to McBeath and Parkman, who already have one spot. Below them on the list, Holichencko and Darenskyi are entered for the final JGP pairs event, and cannot do both junior and senior GP events in the same season. However, if they were offered a senior GP in time, I would expect them to do that and withdraw from their JGP. They would then get two spots, if there were enough withdrawals. Vaipan-Law and Digby are next on the list after them. If Holichencko and Darenskyi did the senior GP, V-L and Digby would get the 6th pairs spot to become available. Whilst I would love Ana and Luke to get a second spot, it would require at least three pairs to get injured - and that's not something I want! If H/D were to stick with the JGP, then Ana and Luke would get the 4th spot to become available.
With the results from Nebelhorn and how they updated the alternates list for Pairs after John Nicks (whichever is higher of the current or past SB), here is what the list should look like now:
Efimova/Mitrofanov received a second assignment and could be removed. Piegard/Strekalin removed since they cannot be an alternate if they withdraw from their assignment.
Ryom/Han and Faula/Belle met the minimum score to be an alternate and could be added from Lombardia.
Vaipan-Law/Digby and Chtchetinina/Wozniak should move ahead of McBeath/Parkman based on their Nebelhorn scores. That is based on the assumption that they are updating the list if the current SB is higher than that of the past season.
The next Challenger with a Pairs event that will count for SBs is Warsaw, so any further updates should come once the Grand Prix starts. Hopefully they'll update their document so that I can see if this is correct (or Vaipan-Law/Digby get an assignment before McBeath/Parkman if they don't update.)

Skate Canada not only forfeited their host spot here but by doing so had to invite a team in direct competition with Laurin and Ethier. Way to undermine more than one of your teams with their lack of trust in our skaters. Sure, Bombardier Mimar or Carignan Pierro or the new teams may not be ready 100% yet... but it would have been an understandable decision, even if they finished last, a cheaper one, and a logical one competitively speaking.
I am looking forward to seeing what France will do with their 3rd spot in pairs...

Well.....there might be some intrigue with one of China's host spots, too.
There's a Weibo post saying that Zhang/Jia have withdrawn from Shanghai Trophy. No idea for the reason, but definitely something to keep an eye on.

Looking at the minimum SB to be considered for a GP spot (132.93), and the scores required to be considered for a Challenger (152 international/163 domestic)...
I think one of the teams could have made that minimum SB. It's not a high requirement. Faula/Belle only made that score after being assigned a host spot. Good for France for giving them the chance.
I hope Skate Canada evaluates the required scores for Pairs, but I'm not expecting it at this point.

No host should give up a host spot unless there really is not any skaters to fill it. Who cares if they come in last..its giving them an opportunity to maybe rise to the occasion. And in this case the replacement may hurt the standings of someone from their own country.

Talking specifically about France (and our GP), I don't know who could replace Piegad/Strekalin. I would have said Panetta/Giniaux before seeing the pairing didn't stick. We don't seem to have a gigantic depth in the discipline ...

Then it's understandable that they do not have a host pick. But Canada keeps doing this, not choosing one from their own skaters.

Seriously? Argh. If only Nova Scotia wasn't such a PITA to get to.
They will get whichever spot opens up next as well (potentially France from the sound of it) - although that probably doesn't help if you want to see them live.

I am really excited to see Bombardier/Mimar going ahead. They both have great personality and their throws they show in practice look incredible!

I am in Calgary, so yeah, Nova Scotia is a better choice, but it's just really not handy. I hope they compete really well this year, and get into GP next year. I am low key hoping to make a skating vacation next fall and travel to both Skate America and Skate Canada, particularly if they both go West Coast.

Not surprising since it became official today that Nikolaj got a 6 years ban....
They are still on the entries for Shanghai Trophy though
