Well, that was a competition with a lots of up and downs.

The whole first group had a great chance to qualify for Nats, but they all kind of bombed...except for Bityushkova!
Both Anisimova and Fursova got lucky to push through.

Muravieva and Akateva looks out of medal contention at Nats for now.

Akateva in particular is dealing with an entire new body, and I'm not convinced she is healed as well. Spins in particular seem to bother her leg (after so many surgeries your muscles are no longer as flexible). I think she didn't have the option to take this year off, but I feel like she should have, and slowly make her way back. If that is even possible. The one thing I don't want to see her doing are quads at this stage. It makes me cringe.

Sofia Akatieva started bawling while still on the ice, that's close enough to a breakdown for her standards, unfortunately. She's super sensitive (not unlike Mura), but much more private about her emotions usually.

Mura, like two weeks ago, looked pretty okay with her results, it actually feels like she didn't expect more, which doesn't line up with her usual reaction and if she was struggling mentally more this season I would actually almost expect her to be even more hysterical. Not sure what's going on here.

Just like last season, the qualification seems pretty fair and even.

I see that Paramonova lost it because they counted the interrupted Lo attempt as a jumping pass. That means that her last 3S was invalidated.
Harsh.
I don't think it would have mattered though. She would still have finished behind Bityushkova.

What surgery did she have? I thought it was just a stress fracture they healed it by not competing for 18 months?

She looked fine in the short program, I think she probably hasn't spent enough time on this new free skate. The short program she already learned last year.

I think it's fitness as well the free skate ran out of power quickly.

Unfortunately, the technical panel was right about this decision (not so much about others though ), even the set-up is enough for a jump to be counted as an attempt.
If she had somehow been able to pass it off as a direct "transition" like Kao's Axel-entry Flip at Jr Worlds a few years ago, they could have given it to her though.

She was disappointed with her skate. Roger Federer used to cry every time he got beat down by Nadal, it's just how some people express themselves. Seems more acceptable in Russia to react emotionally.

The women's competition was a rollercoaster, and I expect nothing less from the men!

For now, it looks like Soloviev is in Nats.
Kovalyev and Ignatov need redemption skates.

Yes. Last year it was mid-February, the year before early March, so somewhere around then.

The Sr final is planned from the 13th to 17th of February, the Jr final from the 12th to 16th of March.
