Just ran some numbers on the average scores from our top girl's best season over the last few years to prove a point in an interaction. Maybe some people would find the results interesting:

Valieva: 260 (This is Olympic season, including her DQ scores and her team event score but also including her meltdown score)

Her 2nd best not including that is 245 (2020/21)

Shcherbakova: 245 (2020/21)

Petrosian: 244 (2022/23)

Kosornaia: 243 (2019/20)

Akateva: 238 (2022/23)

Trusova: 237 (2021/22)

Muravieva: 235 (2022/23)

Bazyluk: 232 (2023/24)

Medvedeva: 231 (2017/18)

Usacheva: 230 (2020/21)

Zagitova: 224 (2017/18)

Zhilina: 224 (2022/23)

Dvoeglazova: 224 (2023/24)

Sinitsyna: 218 (2023/24)

In case someone says Petrosian didn't skate enough in that season to get a fair average, over the last two seasons combined she has 243 (2022-24).

Shcherbakova's best two seasons combined is 241 (2020-22)

Valieva's is 253 (2020-22)

Not including her DQ season, Valieva's best two season average is at 244 (2021-23).

So for fun the top 3 in history for a 2 season average are:

Kamila: 253 (2020-22) / 244 (2021-23)

Petrosian: 243 (2022-24)

Shcherbakova: 241 (2020-22)

The rest were not even close for it to be worth the time calculating (including Kostornaia). Their 2nd best season is way worse than their best.

So these 3 are ultimately the top 3 skaters Russia has seen, in my opinion.

Shcherbakova's scores with no triple axel and cheated landings, and Kostornaia with no quads were absurd. Valieva never got that benefit of being egregiously overscored, nor Petrosian she has to really work for her points.

I can't really say Shcherbakova was over-scored at the olympics. She was honestly that good. 4F-3T, 4F, and 3Lz-3Lo is impeccable. Her 2021 Nats performance was absolutely legendary as well.

Kostornaia deserved her 260 entirely. People forget how good she was including myself sometimes. When I rewatch her programs I am in awe.

I think Petrosian and Kamila are fairly scored in general.

Veronika Yametova new SP

Amazing dress, my favourite style and rich colour.

I hope they make the choreo denser, she is talented and I hope she shows us more. She is doing a lot of gliding here. It feels like the very standard template for a flamenco/tango program. Her fluidity and execution is impressive but the choreo itself feels low effort. They can make it more exciting for her.

I do love my Yametova. I do hope she can work in the Yametova slide, it is her trademark, much as the cantilever was for Sasha. (Although, yes, i know many did the cantilever before Sasha did it. ) I've seen so many girls in the US try it, try it and fail, it is actually a difficult little move. The trick is to go down just so far, and no farther, and pop it back up, and that seems to be very difficult for all the little girls who are trying it.

I saw that nika AND muravieva have back problems that interrupted their training.
Interesting. In the 22-23 season Muravieva had pretty rough landings, you could see her back round often. But last season she looked quite strong, so I wouldn't have expected her to get any problems at this point.

I noticed the Plushenko choreography team also likes to use a lot of movements that strain the lower back, with lots of rounding. But I wonder why the 2 biggest skaters on the team are suddenly struggling with this at the same time.

Mura's fan group denied this quite strongly, and the person who posted about it seems to have deleted it, so I assume it's not true. Nika's said she was fine, but tbh, we already know she had back problems last season, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some truth to it. Guess we'll find out soon

Is it too late for Russia to be included in the next Olympics? I k.now people disagree but without them it feels like we are missing a good part of skating. How do those skaters in Russia stay motivated. Is Trusova really coming back? I really miss them in ladies and pairs.

Trusova (she just got married to Makar Ignatov btw) is back on training, she stated she wants to skate at test skates, in some videos she showed a rotated 4L+3T, but nothing is really certain

The council is discussing the ban in September I believe

I dont think anyone really disagrees that without Russian women and pairs skating is left handicapped
