Daniil's last competition in Russia with his former partner Daria Fefelova was in November of 2022, but he must have come over soon after, as he partnered up with Jane in December of the same year. He's been in the US ever since, from what I can tell.

As Hana has Armenian heritage, it could be a possibility they are not going to be skating for the US and are not part of the ISP because of this. I feel like that would be mentioned in their interview though, no?
It is quite strange that Aboian/Veselukhin were not added to the ISP as they've surely achieved the minimum score requirements at Dallas Classic, and a team who scored much worse were added. USFS could have straight up forgot or it's a typo, but the only other possibility is that there's some issue around his release, which would be very strange considering he has never competed internationally nor even competed at Russian Nationals.

Thanks for the info about when Danill likely came to the U.S. Hana was born in the U.S., and I'm sure Danill is on his way to obtaining U.S. citizenship. They have at least three more eligible years of junior competition, during which they can compete internationally and gain substantial competitive experience repping the U.S. Possibly, they will have more financial support from U.S. figskating than they would from Armenia. I also do not know how long Hana's family has lived in the U.S., but having been born here, I get the feeling she is not considering the option of repping another country, at least not currently.

Hana & Danill just won Dallas Classic, repping the U.S. They are coached by Gregory/ Petukhov in Connecticut. Plus, they seem excited, humble and eager for further growth as a team. I doubt they are considering repping a different country at this stage, when they have hit the ice running with such a promising and rewarding series of domestic debut performances after only six months training together.

Hana & Danill's FD music sounded so familiar to me. I knew that I'd heard it before at the ballet, and I suspected Mozart. Then, I remembered 2014 - 2015 season and Papadakis/ Cizeron's stunning win at Worlds. 🥰

Mozart's Adagio: Concerto No. 23

It has been 9 years, so long ago enough for a new young team to tackle. I do not recall any prominent ice dance team using the music post-2015.

By this point, I don't see any reason why Danill would not already have his release, especially if he never competed at Russian Nationals. He was a young, unknown skater and when paired with Jane Calhoun in the U.S., they were not advancing in juniors domestically. I do not see why Rusfed would have felt the need to continue holding onto Danill once he relocated to the U.S. and especially not after a year. It has now been two years. Of course, if Rusfed haven't yet released Danill, more than likely, he would now be considered more valuable.

We have Lake Placid entries for both the international and domestic competitions.

Pham/Spiridonov, Neset/Markelov, Brown/Brown, Flores/Desyatov, Morozov/Chen, and Pate/Bye are competing in the senior international category.

Aboian/Veselukhin have their release, they are competing junior in the international section. Wolfkostin/Tsarevski are also confirmed junior for this season, also competing junior internationally. Mullen/Mullen, Peal/Peal, Ilin/Cain, and Epps/Gilman round out the junior international section.

Rhythm dance portions of all the competitions have concluded, see the links above for current results. JGP Riga assignments were also announced with Deych/Hu and the Mullens assigned.

Lake Placid concluded this past week with the Browns in 2nd, Pate/Bye in 3rd, Neset/Markelov in 4th, Flores/Desyatov in 5th, Morozov/Chen in 9th, and Pham/Spiridonov in 11th on the international senior side.

On the international junior side, Aboian/Veselukhin won, Wolfkostin/Tsarevski in 2nd, Mullens in 3rd, Peals in 4th, and Ilin/Cain in 5th.

USFS added Aboian/Veselukhin, Morozov/Chen, Pham/Spiridonov, Cui/Rogers, and Stapert/Korotcov to the ISP after Lake Placid.

I would expect Flores/Desyatov to receive the Skate America host spot after their strong performance here. Stapert/Korotcov may get a JGP with their addition to the ISP. The top 5 at Lake Placid International in the junior event are certainly going to be receiving two assignments each (Mullens have already received their first one), which leaves 4 spots left (of which Deych/Hu already have one). I can see a scenario where USFS gives the remaining three spots to Renzi/Lissauer, Stapert/Korotcov, and Epps/Gilman, the three other junior teams on the ISP.

Would love to see Flores/Desyatov at Skate America!!!

It was only Daniil V. who required a release (from Russia). Since Daniil has been in the U.S. for nearly two years, I would imagine he gained his release within a year of his family moving to the U.S. (especially if he never competed at Russian Nationals and never repped Russia internationally). Thus, more than likely, Daniil had his release prior to partnering with Hana. In Hana's case, she is a U.S. citizen. Her parents are Armenian immigrants, but she and her brother were born in the U.S.

I would expect Flores/Desyatov to receive the Skate America host spot after their strong performance here.
Yes, a highly anticipated expectation, especially since Flo/Des should have been named outright to Skate America after a successful international and national 2023-24 season. Morosov/Chen and Pham/Spirodonov, while established internationally with previous partners, are new teams who have a learning curve together. Since their new status did not stop USfigsk from waiting to see their debut performances before making the SA tbd decision vs Flo/Des, I have a suspicion that USfigsk may still be holding out to see how M/C might improve before end of October. The reason I say this is because of Chen's past competition cred and due to the political influence Annabelle's father might have bts. In addition, M/C train at MIDA and USfigsk are supportive of MIDA team and students.

That said, it makes sense to assign Flo/Des to SA! They have interesting programs and they are a compelling team. There's a strong lineup at SA, though, which will make placing high difficult for younger teams in their senior GP debut. Lineup currently includes Neset/Markelov; Lauriault Le Gac (who were 1st and 4th at LPIDI); and top teams who will take the podium: Cho/Bat; Fear/Gib; FB/Soren; plus mid-tier teams including Dav/Smol; Smart/Dieck; Mraz/Mraz; Tkac/Kilia.

ETA:
In any case, Flo/Des are at the top of the alternates list. If they get SA and a team happens to drop out of another GP, they could receive two GP assignments, which I think they certainly deserve. They will surely get at least two Challengers in addition to hopefully at least one GP (possibly two).

I heard it is confirmed that Benjamin Starr is partnered with Yahli Pedersen at MIDA. I do not know if their partnering has been officially announced. I feel sorry for Ben's former partner, Jenna Hauer. It will be interesting to see if Yahli can improve with Ben and whether they make a good match physically and personality-wise.

Yea I think usfs was waiting for Morozov/chen bc they most likely knew wolfkostin/tsarevski were heading junior. F/d rly deserve the spot so it wud be rly dumb not to chose them
More than knowing Wolf/Tsar were heading back to juniors, it is being discussed that Usfigsk suggested this strategy to Wolf/Tsar in order to shore up their depleted junior ice dance discipline (with some teams having split and others moving up to seniors). It is being speculated that USfigsk wants to ensure they have a chance to maintain three spots in ice dance at 2025 junior Worlds.

Jenna and Ben split back in April already, so I'm not sure we have to feel sorry for her now that he has potentially found a new partner. :scratch2:

To be honest, even though I liked them as a team, they clearly had their own issues - They had split before, with both even having had new partners, but paired back up after almost a year apart. It seems like that is no better of an idea in a professional setting than a personal setting, unfortunately. :slink:

Yeah, I felt sorry for Jenna at the time of the split, and I still do. I and some fan friends had purchased the Egna Dance Trophy stream (largely to see Flo/Des skate their WSS FD and 80s RD for the last time). It was a good event to watch. Hauer & Starr won bronze in juniors; Renzi & Lissauer won silver in advanced novice; and, of course, Flo/Des won silver in seniors after placing first in the RD. It was a well-skated event.

Hauer & Starr, I feel looked good together. I liked them at U.S. ice dance final and at Nationals as well as at the Egna event. So when I heard they split a few months later, I was surprised. I am not familiar with the previous history of their partnering. However, skaters breaking up and getting back together is not unusual. It happened to Lajoie/Lagha in their younger days. They admitted in a video interview (with P.J. Kwong) not getting along together and deciding to split. They soon got back together because finding the right partner is not easy. For Lajoie/Lagha, the rest is history. They will surely be the team to beat, all things considered, once current top veterans retire post 2026 Olympics.

My feeling sorry for Jenna is not a reflection on Ben's new partnership with Yahli. I simply feel for any skater left hanging from a split and desiring to continue. Thus, it is fortunate for Yahli to get another chance with an accomplished partner. Being able to continue is not always the outcome. I wonder if Jenna and Matthew Sperry might try out since Kristina Bland retired to pursue academic studies.

The Brown siblings are interviewed by Morgan Matthews Pennington for icedance.com. The focus of the interview is about Oona's and Gage's ongoing financial struggles. What they face each year in order to continue their career is something that IMO should be more widely publicized across-the-board in figure skating. I am sure that many skaters have to end their careers for financial reasons. Oona and Gage are truly driven by their passion for skating. It is insightful to learn how hard they work to piece together enough to keep going each season. A testament to their dedication and grit can be seen in how hard they work as soccer referees, not only for the money but also for the fitness exercise it provides.

In the article, the Browns point out that money from their Gofundme (along with their fund at NEASF New England Amateur Skating Foundation) have been important sources of help for which they thank their supporters. But obviously, they need more consistent and increased funding to avoid having to struggle each season to stay afloat. As they mention, their family situation is a factor in their struggles. Some skaters are lucky to have wealthy or reasonably well-off parents to support their skating. As Oona and Gage mention, skaters do not tend to publicly discuss the financial costs and struggles they face. This would be a good topic for Ms. Pennington and other figure skating reporters, including @clairecloutier or Anna Kellar of The Future of Figure Skating Podcast to investigate and write about in more depth and detail.

Lots of assignments in the past few weeks.

Morozov/Chen and Neset/Markelov will be competing at Lombardia Trophy. Renzi/Lissauer and Wolfkostin/Tsarevski were assigned to the second JGP. The Peals and Aboian/Veselukhin got the third JGP while Aboian/Veselukhin and Ilin/Cain got the fourth JGP.

I think it does, but from what I heard, the quality wasn't very good last year...and of course it's not free.
Thanks -- I don't want to shell out tons of money for a stream here, a stream there -- but even less so if it's poor quality. That's a shame.

Last week, I posted links to the archived streams with time stamps here.
Thanks. I’m quickly losing interest not being able to watch comps. So haven’t been here much.
