2024-25 US Ice Dance

Isabella Flores and Ivan Desyatov are no longer ice dance partners. 😢 Isabella posted on IG recently that she's currently training in Lyon, France. No indication yet of a new partner nor a coaching change.
I wonder if she's trying out with Maximilien Rahier from France? He and his partner split this past season and I believe he's located in Lyon.

No matter what, I will be excited to see her back competing even if she does solo ice dance.

I was not familiar with Rahier, so I looked him up. He skated in juniors for France on the JGP last season with former partner, Alisa Ovsiankina. He previously skated for Switzerland with Kayleigh Maxsymec. Ovsiankina & Rahier looked fairly good together and talented, but clearly their partnership had room for growth. They were well praised during the 2024-25 JGP by commentators, Barton and Hanretty.

I see that Ovsiankina is on Ice Partner Search, but Rahier is not. Their height difference was good with both having long lines. They had good speed and unison together, but there was something lacking in a connection between them.

Meanwhile, I am not sure that Flores and Rahier would make a great physical match since Rahier is quite tall at 6' 2" and Flores is petite at 5 ft. But who knows.

So, I see in New Partnership thread in Edge that William Lissauer (previously on Ice Partner Search, post split with Emily Renzi) is now partnered with Aneta Vaclavikova, for the U.S. Wow, okay.

I recall when the Renzi & Lissauer split was first announced that it was Renzi who was hoping to find a new partner and continue. It had been said that Lissauer was planning to pursue academic studies. Then, soon after, Lissauer appeared on Ice Partner Search. Renzi is still listed on IPS. Yet another example of a guy from a split ID team landing softly and quickly with a new partner due to guys being in such high demand.

Aneta has two older brothers who compete in singles, Tadeas, for Czech Republic, and Lukas, for Slovakia. Their mother is a former skater from Czech Republic, and their father is Slovakian. Aneta formerly competed in junior ice dance for Slovakia, with Ivan Morozov of Russia. The recent announcement posting re Aneta's partner switch, in GS Edge, indicates that Aneta & Ivan did not mesh in terms of their personalities. They made concerted attempts to get help trying to communicate and find a connection, but nothing worked, so they split.

Apparently, Vaclavikova/ Lissauer will skate in juniors for the U.S. I suppose Lissauer prefers to continue repping the U.S., at least for now.

Interesting. I see the Shibs' post on IG. Good luck to them. With C/B probably retiring after the Olympics, unless they decide to go to Worlds, the U.S. is probably happy to support some returning proven star ice dance talent. Kolesnik is still waiting for citizenship. Christina should be getting hers sometime this year, I believe. But I guess U.S. fed is looking to a future without C/B.

I see a lot of depth in U.S ice dance but not many star quality teams. Green/ Parsons lost a lot of momentum since moving to MIDA. After Michael's injury, G/P came back this season with some very nice programs, yet the judges yawned. The Browns are extremely talented and determined, but the judges are not giving them a huge vote of top-level confidence. Pate-Bye/ Bye are entertaining and competitive, but moving up all the way, I don't see. P/B are moving in the other direction with U.S. fed now seeming to push and favor Wolf/Tsar. Pham/Spiro could be a future possibility, depending on how they develop at IAM.

Aboian Veselukhin should move-up quickly when they become seniors in three years. Leah/Artem I am hoping will prosper, too. Meanwhile, Isabella Flores has left the building, and U.S. ice dance. It hasn't been officially announced yet, but Flores has found a new partner and a new country. ❤️

New thread for a new season

Wonderful Article about Carline and Michael's battle back from injury on A Divine Sport

I’m overall really happy with the results of the Nationals rhythm dance! I’m glad Emily & Ian had a great comeback after a disappointing season. Wonderful skating and scores for Chock & Bates, Brown & Brown, Zingas & Kolesnik, Christina & Anthony, Parsons & Green. I don’t envy USFS having to choose the team. Zingas & Kolesnik did so well this season that it would make a lot of sense to choose them. As for Christina and Anthony and Parsons and Green, I love both teams so I’ll be sad for whoever is not chosen.

I’m very relieved that USFS did not fluff the Shibutani’s scores. I do not want them on the Olympic team. There are far more talented teams, and Alex’s verbal abuse has no place on Team USA

The US ice dance pool is an embarrassment of riches. So many deserving teams. I wish they could send 5 pairs!

I do think that the current top 3 -- C/B, Z/K, and C/P -- will be the Olympic team. Barring a disaster or injury of course. I will be sad for Green/Parsons if they once again end up as the first alternates. But there's no denying how good Z/K have become since they started only 4 years ago. Their breakout year is very much deserved. And C/P have a better body of work than G/P in the last 3 years.

I am also relieved that the book on the Shibsibs is firmly shut. I feel bad for Maia though. I hope she finds joy in whatever pursuit she goes for. I'd be happy if she skated with a different partner, but we all know that's never gonna happen.

Agree with all this 100%. I just realized I posted on the old ice dance thread so I will copy my post over to the 2025-2026 thread
