2024 Israel National Championships

I just noticed something. The girl that opened this competition, Emily HURI (HOL), was the only skater to go clean in the Free Skate. And as a result she climbed up from 8th to 7th.

The skaters either side of her, and the winner, had two falls. And everybody else had 1 fall.

And this is before we even get to the Men's skaters...

We stay with the Juniors, but move from the girls to the chaos! 7 boys, arranged into a group of 3; followed by a group of 4.

I knew I shouldn't have said anything. Because the boys have taken this as a challenge to try to surprass.

In the previous segment, the last 7 girls to skate lost a total of 10 points in deductions between them.

So far we have had 3 boys. And they have lost a total of 9 points in deductions between them.

The sole Holon skater in this competition, #2 Michael MOSHAIEV, lost 5 points all on his own.

I dread to imagine where the total will be at after the 4 boys in the next group!

Awww, I absolutely love that music ("My Nocturnal Serenade") that Kirill SHEIKO (EIL) skated to.

I wish more people would skate to it.

And he takes a well-deserved substantial lead in both FS and overall.

I wonder if he is the brother of the Advanced Novice Ladies Champion Nikol...

Wow. The two Beer Sheva skaters in this group are the only boys to have gone clean so far.

New leader in both FS and overall. By massive margins: 32.14 points in the FS, and 49.51 points overall.

I don't know, but Nikita SHEIKO (EIL) is the third skater to go clean.

It's not enough to win, though. He goes into 2nd in both FS and overall. In both cases around 10 points behind Kuperman.

Right, just to finish off this conversation.

Kirill SHEIKO (EIL) was the only skater in the final group to add to the total, and it was just the one point that he had deducted.

So, the girls and boys finished up tied on 10 points deducted.

But what is the tie-breaker? We had 10 points deducted from 7 girls; and 10 points deducted from 4 boys. The biggest individual deductions were 2 points for three of the girls; and 5 points for one of the boys.

Let's just leave it by saying that the Juniors as a whole were prickly.

And that leaves us with just the Seniors. There are only 4 skaters altogether, so it shouldn't take too long to get through them all. A group of 3 girls; followed by a group of 1 boy.

Yipes! The first 3 times that Liza was within camera shot, two of them were nearly collisions! She was going far too fast. And as a result, she and the other skaters barely had time to react when their trajectories were intersecting.

Thankfully, she slowed down shortly afterwards for the rest of the Warm-Up.

We lost the pictures for a while just before the 1 minute call. So I don't know what she was doing then. But, I don't think she did any elements within camera shot.

So, having not seen her yesterday, I don't know what form she is in. Apart from being fast, that is!

I had to interrupt for a Zoom work meeting (yes, too bad I can't only skate, I have to work to pay for all the skating)

Well, we already know that both of my "kids" have Cup Of Israel titles in their pockets already. Now to find out if Liza can put herself in a good position to add the National title to that. (I realise that a lot of things have to align for her to achieve that).

Beautiful combination jump to start with.

Just about had enough room to do the sequence of jumps.

Next jump and combination spin good. And the next jump too.

I thought Liza was going to join me during the step sequence she was so close to the camera! (Well, it was probably just the zoom).

I didn't spot any possible issues after that. It was beautiful.

Although, Liza looked frustrated when she finished. So, it was maybe not as good as I thought.

She was smiling for the photos. But as soon as they were finished, her head was in her hands.

The coach was telling her something, and Liza was pulling some strange faces at it.

When the scores were announced, she stood up and punched the air in celebration!

This was only the third time she broke the 100 point mark in the FS.



She goes into a massive lead in both FS and overall.

Now she has wait to see what Maria does to find out if it is enough to win both titles on offer today. (She already has the Cup Of Israel title).

The Israel National Championships finishes with chaos! But, not a lot as there is only one skater. (And it is just the National title that he is in for).
