I thought it was interesting too, so I asked if they could enter an international competition immediately?
They're not listed as part of the ISP, which I thought was a necessity for any international competition, including LPIDI. So I would also be quite surprised/confused if they are actually going to compete. 🤔

We'll know for sure if they are doing the international part of the event by tomorrow afternoon/evening or early in the morning on the 30th, but until then we can only really wait.

What in the heck is wrong with U.S. fed??? Okay, so they are looking at this as some kind of small Mom/ Pop summer comp to monitor skaters' progress. Well, it is much more than that! They make such a big deal out of changing rules to try and popularize ice dance. But the larger audience that has been amassed due to skaters' engagement on IG apparently means nothing to U.S. fed! 😡 Why are figure skating authorities so backward in their thinking!?

There are a lot of new fans worldwide who are wondering, 'Where can I see LPIDI event? 🤔 Why can't I see this event?!' 😭 Not to mention long-time fans who are majorly pi$$Ed off!!!

I must say I am kind of confused by the particularly strong reactions this time around about entry lists only being released a day before or on the day of the competition.
This is not a new thing. Nothing here didn't also happen last season. Or the one before. It happens at each (non-Challenger, non-Championship, non-GP) event held in the US.

Why confused, though? There's huge interest, yet a lack of responsiveness on the part of U.S. fed. The interest in ice dance has grown since last year. U.S. fed is not paying any attention to this enthusiastic growth. Where are you from @Jumping_Bean? You obviously know a lot about skating and you keep abreast of news. If you are Canadian, then clearly you know the issues with being able to view events is different in Canada than in the U.S.

Those running the sport, in general, do not keep up with current times, nor do they pay much attention to engaging with or satisfying fans' desires. Just because you are seeing strong reactions expressed this year in this thread does not mean that there weren't equally strong feelings last year and the year before that which may not have been as openly expressed. As figure skating fans, sometimes we suffer in silence. 🙁

The other part about this, which I'm sure is not news to you, is the music rights issue leading to uncertainty this year about programs being shared on TwitterX as they were last year by a kind fan of ice dance. So emotions are definitely running high this year. In general, fans' emotions in figure skating always run high, which is not a new reality. Your confusion is more 'confusing' than our 'strong reactions.' In addition, there are a number of new ice dance partnerships in the U.S., thus a great deal of interest in seeing new teams and their programs, many of which have not been publicly announced yet.

Last but not least, fyi, Isabella Flores has brought many new global fans to ice dance and to the sport in general as a result of her kinetic partnership with Ivan Desyatov and her charming engagement with fans on her IG. Isabella has amassed 331K followers and growing on her IG, and she has a very successful subscription platform. This is unprecedented for a young up-and-coming competitive ice dancer. She's very good at what she does on the ice and on IG. There is a lot of excitement among F/D's core fans in getting to see their 2024-25 programs in competition. I am sure those IG subscribers who are able have traveled to Lake Placid, in large part, for the opportunity to see F/D compete.

In general, F/D appear to be well-liked in the skating community, so there is a lot of interest in them and in ice dance generally, I believe more-so than there has ever been. This is a good thing that, for the most part, seems to have escaped USfigskating's notice.

So clearly, whether or not teams are listed on the ISP at a certain point in the summer does not mean they will not be added to the ISP at some point prior to the start of the season. The ISP list often changes. Pham/ Spirodonov have respectively competed internationally with other partners in juniors (both) and in seniors (Anton). Morosov/ Chen have both competed internationally in juniors and seniors with other partners. In juniors, if Aboian/ Veselukhin are still not yet on the ISP, they soon will be.

This is a packed line-up for seniors. It will be interesting to see all the new programs, and to see who is ready and on form to come out on top at this point in the off-season.

It was never really in question if skaters/teams can be added to the ISP later in the season, no? It happens all of the time when skaters/teams hit the qualifying scores and/or get released by their former country.

What was being questioned was if being in the ISP was necessary to compete internationally at all - Clearly, the answer to that is no, at least not for Senior/Junior Bs.

In any case, LPIDI is a pre-season summer competition that is in the U.S. The fact that the ISP can fluctuate during the off-season, with some skaters initially being left off purely by mistake in recent years, it must not be a strict requirement to be on the ISP in order to participate at a summer international in the U.S. Plus, the new U.S. teams in question all have junior and senior international experience (except for Vanessa Pham, who only has prior junior international experience).

This is an interesting lineup, and the draw has turned out intriguing as well. Based mainly on highest most recent stats and reputation, possibly the top five placements will be among Pate/Bye; Lauriault/LeGac; The Browns; Flores/Desyatov; and Neset/Markelov. It's a toss-up where these teams will land among the top five if they all skate to their ability. L/L could win as the most experienced team. Pate/Bye have the highest total score from last season, but by only one point over L/L. The Browns and Flores/Desyatov also have the ability to win or make the podium.

Flores/Desyatov have improved from last season and they have very good programs. Plus, F/D beat the Browns at 2024 U.S. Nationals, which may or may not be a psychological advantage. This will be Neset/ Markelov's senior debut, but they are quite good and have winning momentum as JGPF and Junior World champs. In addition, N/M have the advantage of skating last. Thus, they will know other teams' scores (if they look), and will have a good handle on what they need to do.

The next six placements, again based on highest most recent stats: Fabbri/ Ayer; Morosov/Chen (new so they are a wildcard, but we know they scored 70.11 in RD at recent Dallas Classic); Bashynska/ Beaumont; Tkachenko/ Kiliakov; unsure where Pham/ Spirodonov will land as another new wildcard U.S. team, but they are training at I.AM and Anton has reputable senior int'l experience; Nosovitskaya/Nosovitsky, et al.

Good luck to every team!

this competition will decide who gets the Skam TBD right?
Yes, I think the results for particular teams will go toward USfigsk making their final decision on the SA tbd. As well, it is possible that relevant teams will get Challenger assignments prior to late October. Results from such additional comps might also factor into the tbd choice. Since P/B, the Browns, and N/M already have two GP assignments each, the tbd is surely between F/D and the new teams, M/C and P/S.

M/C scored 70.11 at Dallas Classic in the RD, but did not compete the FD. I think that F/D should have won the SA spot outright based on their strong international showing last season, combined with their 7th place finish at 2024 U.S. Nationals (up 3 places from 10th in 2023).

yes, I think so too, I just heard that Morozov's (father) has a lot of influence in the USFS, I don't know how that works (I'm new to ice dancing, sorry for so many questions.

Is the Daniel Klaber from Cleveland skating here in the non International comp the child of the man who used to skate with Holly Moore or did he come out of retirement all these years later?
