Oona and Gage Brown just hit a new (unofficial) PB by almost a point in the RD in July! I'm thrilled for them - I love their skating skills and presentation, and after all the struggles their family has had to finance their skating (they sold their house recently) I am so happy to see them starting out the season on a strong note! Although they did have the same thing happen last year at Lake Placid and dropped 7 points at their next competition in the RD but I'll stay optimistic 😅

Exciting competitions in both junior and senior internationals. Close scores between a few teams at the top. Interesting that Wolf/Tsar fell behind Peals and the new team of Hana/ Danill. However, the PCS scores show Peals and W/T scored higher for presentation and choreo, since H&D are younger and still maturing in that respect. H&D have a higher tech score and they are not that far behind on PCS. Anyway, W/T could possibly make up ground in the FD.

It is too bad that there was no live streaming available. I am sure fans would have paid for streaming.

For the senior international, I was right about the top five, but I was not too sure of the order. I am not surprised about any of the placements. With the close RD scores a lot could happen in the FD. Isabella & Ivan (F/D) indicated to their subscribers that Ivan did not yet have his costumes, so he wore a practice outfit. The fact that they had to skate first in the first group for the RD was tough. And their training mates skated last in the last group! Anyway for going first and Ivan not having his costume, they did okay in the scoring. They should be able to improve that RD score over the course of the season.

I have looked at a few of the programs posted without sound. It is not fun. At least we get to see their choreo and movement quality, but to fully enjoy, we need to hear the music.

What matters to me now is that F/D has overtaken the other two new teams 🙃 I can't wait for Fd, I wonder if the order will change or if it will stay the same

Is the Daniel Klaber from Cleveland skating here in the non International comp the child of the man who used to skate with Holly Moore or did he come out of retirement all these years later?

7Marin Hessel, Pavilion SC of Cleveland Heights
Daniel Klaber, Pavilion SC of Cleveland Heights

Nosiness has got the better of me.

A video of Marin and Daniel's Short has appeared on YouTube already:

Marin Hessel / Daniel Klaber - 2024 Lake Placid Championships SD

I think we can discount the son theory. Holly's former partner would be 30 now, and the guy in this video looks a similar age to that!

Here are some more videos for comparison:

Daniel Klaber - 2018 Midwestern Sectionals FS
Daniel Klaber - 2018 Midwestern Sectionals SP

Holly Moore / Daniel Klaber - 2014 Junior Nationals FD

Holly Moore / Daniel Klaber - 2014 ISU Junior Grand Prix Tallinn Cup FD
Holly Moore / Daniel Klaber - 2014 ISU Junior Grand Prix Tallinn Cup SD

I'm pretty sure that the guy doing Senior Singles in 2018 representing the Shaker club is the same guy that was doing Junior Ice Dance in 2014 representing the Detroit club. But, I am not sure if he is the same guy that is doing Senior Ice Dance this week representing the Cleveland Heights club. When I first watched the videos, I said "no, it isn't". But, you don't really get a clear enough or close enough view of his face in the new video. So, I'm not confident in that judgement.

The video links are here, so I'm opening it up to others to judge.

A user on Reddit has combined the audio from the Youtube streams with the professional videos. This is the link to Neset/Markelov, Pate/Bye, and Lariault/Le Gac, and here is Morozov/Chen, Browns, and Pham/Spiridonov,
It was fixed, I'm sorry for the mistake about the links . Maybe is hard do with a cellphone and paying attention in the subway for get off on the right station and trying to use another cellphone isn't mine (mine is on workshop for screen reparation and using a lent phone is hard more if is an Chinese brand)

Yep, there are a number of uploads with sound from fans who were in the arena. Seeing the performances with sound makes a big difference! They cannot be serious about continuing to push this 'no sound' thing! :palmf: Something has got to be worked out. And fans have got to organize to push change! I do not know how to organize, but I am def willing to be a foot soldier in such an effort!!!

Ooof, below 150 for Wolfkostin/Tsarevski - Definitely not what they or USFS were hoping for I think 😬
Katarina was injured during the off-season, so there's hope their score will go up during the season, but this is not the start people were expecting or hoping for.

Also not a great start for the Peals, off the podium again. Way better total score than at Dallas Classic though.
The Mullens and Ilin/Cain scored around the same as at Dallas Classic, so that's a pretty solid sign for their current condition.

Aboian/Veselukhin on the other hand even add onto their score from Dallas Classic, and have now gone from scores in the 130s at their first two competitions to a score in the high-140s (Dallas Classic) to a mid-150s score. Superb development for a very new team, and I think they've just cemented their status as the current top Junior US team.

The dance party theme seems to be working okay so far. Some programs are more interesting than others. From what I have seen so far, there seems to be more of a heavy 60s emphasis with a bit of rock 'n roll 50s. A few programs were more late 60s to early 70s. Cui/ Rogers and Pate/ Bye were straight 70s. A bit of repeats with some popular 50s and 60s songs. Cui/ Rogers were Jackson 5 influenced. Oona & Gage got it on and kicked it out the arena with James Brown. Oh, my memories of boogeying to James Brown, and to MJ and bros! 😎 Now, where are the Supremes and Gladys Knight & the Pips!? 😆

While Lauriault/ Le Gac are skilled and entertaining, I think it is their veteran status and French + Canadian judges and I.AM clout that has them in first by about 3.4 points.

From what I have seen in the RD, I would have the Browns in first, then Neset/ Markelov, and then L&L. But no chance N/M would be placed ahead of veterans L&L at this stage. While Pate/Bye are good, very creative, and competitive, I think Flores/Desyatov have a lot more potential and range than Pate/Bye. Still, it's a toss-up between these two teams at this stage of F/D's development. Ivan needs his costumes finished and as they fine-tune everything over the course of the season, I think F/D will do well. The road is tough though for F/D as for so many good teams with loads of potential. There simply needs to be more and better competitive avenues and a different structure to provide opportunities to fulfill all these wonderful ice dancer athletes' potential.

I see Morosov/ Chen with the music, but from a far away filming device. They do look good together in this RD. I am curious to see Fabbri/Ayer's RD, as they are slightly ahead of M/C and slightly behind F/D. The scoring is really tight between M/C, F/A, and F/D. By having to skate first, I think F/D have been undermarked a bit. I would have them at least 69+ for their performance.

Regarding W/T in third in the RD, note that Dima had a slight wobble during a twizzle sequence.

However, WooHoo for Hana & Daniil!!! They won convincingly by over 5 1/2 points. 🥳 To be this good after only 7 months together is definitely making a statement.

Here is a lovely video filmed at an outdoor rink by OIP, and posted by Hana! 🥰 And Wowza! At this point, they'd only been skating together for two weeks!!!?? 👀😱🥹🫨

I have seen clips. F/D's FD music and choreo was chosen by Kaitlyn Weaver. 😍 It is a wow, IMO. Lots of room for growth and refinement over the course of the season, for sure. But, it is very unique and quite special. ✨
