2025-26 Retirements, Splits and New Partnerships

Julia Quattrocchi and Etienne Lacasse (Pairs, Canada) split. They're searching for new partners. Maybe they should have held off on announcing the NextGen team until July.

Sigh... I think Étienne has a higher potential than Julia, at least jumping wise so it may be a good thing to do this now. However, at this point, who will be on the JGP circuit ? LOL. 3 spots at every event... gosh... so many will be wasted.

Even though they had struggles on some elements in pairs their artistry on ice was so good together and I enjoyed seeing them compete this season especially their free skate. I wish teams would just learn how to grow together and take the time but if they feel like there is no future its their choice... Hope they both get great partners, Canada now has no strong junior team but its still exciting to see how next season goes.

Etienne probably realized he could score higher if he finds someone who can jump triples. If you look at our Novice Girls, there is a lot of potential.

In Pairs, I think it is easier for the men to find a partner than the females.

I hope they both find suitable partners

@4everchan Maybe, with all these splits, we will end up with more Next Gen Pair teams 🤔

I’m going to stop peeking on this forum as I discover a new split everytime I enter this forum

Canada again?
there was ONE post about the French dancers and I thought... finally... not Canada again... and BANG ... our top junior team (assuming the other two are moving up) is now gone. But not only that... who will even compete on the JGP circuit at this point.. and at worlds ? Canada maxed out on the spots and they cannot be reallocated. Junior pairs this year may be relatively less interesting. Good for Chinese pairs though who will be able to shine after a promising start of the year, but a disastrous showing at worlds.

If for a few it's because one wants to concentrate more on higher education or a new life off the ice, I'll accept that. Or for the younger ones, if they've grown to a mismatch in height. But if it's just restlessness, or not getting along, then I have no patience with them. Most of them use the cliche "excited" about the future. How excited will they be to find themselves at the bottom of the heap because they're unknowns again with new partners, and they lose funding, or number of entries for their country?

Albeit with some enforced separations by geographical distances, my pairs partner and I have been together almost 50 years, longer than a lot of marriages. We've been friends even longer, since we were 7 years old. Many ballet and ballroom dance partnerships have managed the same. If I can put up with his chronic tardiness and he can put up with my incessant talktalktalk for that long, some of these uncoupled couples could have worked things out with a bit of counselling. Rather than a pat on the back, I feel more like giving some of them a swat lower down, if it weren't that spanking brats is frowned on these days.

I saw someone leave a comment Loucas Ethier instagram saying something about rumors of him and Deanna matching up. They have to be talking out of their ass right? There is no way. I read his instagram post as leaving competitive skating by saying next chapter of career.

Congrats on your partnership longevity. 🎉 You remind me of Tai & Randy re their long partnership and friendship, and also of Tai re her strong, outspoken advocacy for pairs teams to stay together and stick things out for the long haul.

I think that there are some instances where circumstances cause inevitable splits, but there are likely numerous other situations where commitment and patience were needed, yet failed to be employed.

'Next chapter of career,' does not necessarily mean he's leaving competitive skating altogether. He also said, 'Stay tuned...' In my opinion, if he was leaving the sport altogether, he would not really need to say, 'Stay tuned...'

Fans do not necessarily continue following skaters if they decide to pursue academics or a traditional work career. In the case of U.S. skater, Alex Benoit, who left competitive ice dance for an acting career, there have been some opportunities to continue following his pursuits.

Before the books are closed on this season, I'm pretty sure that Mia Lee Mayer and Atl Ongay Perez (ice dance, Germany) teamed up this season. I checked this thread for last season and they were not listed then.

Here is proof of their partnership for anyone interested:

Oh good, I'm glad to see he found a new partner, and one who's a good match in height for him. I hope they do well.

That's the one I missed: I saw Ashlie having found someone new but had heard about Atl finding someone as well. I couldn't find anything about it. Thanks @Silevril Ilumire!

I think there was talk about this in the German figure skating thread since Atl is now skating for Germany...

Wow! I could have sworn that this new partnership had been mentioned either late in last season's thread or early in this season's thread!

They were first discussed in the German thread way back last July after @Jumping_Bean spotted them in the Bavarian Fed's list of skaters. And I remember explaining that Atl's mother was German, and that because of this it would make things more straightforward if he switched countries rather than Mia.

Start of conversation in German thread: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/posts/3432517

It was also mentioned in the British thread at that time, but a conversation didn't develop until it was mentioned again in September.

Mia and Atl have been doing very well during the past season. Including 🥈 Silver Medals at the IceChallenge (where that video was from) and the Bosphorus Cup. Their scores are still lower than what Atl was achieving with Ashlie, but they are a new partnership that are still getting used to each other. With more experience together, I am sure they will get up there.

I have been impressed with them so far. And I hope for great things for them.

Hahaha. I probably read it in the German thread, forgot about it, just remembered Atl having a new partner, and then not knowing anymore where to look for it. thanks @CaroLiza_fan!
