2025-26 Russian Local Events – Discussion

Simonova's new partner is really tall. A few errors for this team, too, but it's not entirely unexpected or unusual. It's a new team and their first time in Seniors. Maria's dress is a little too sheer for my tastes.
Andreeva/Akimov had some issues with the jumps and the throw (not unusual for this team), but they had the best synchronicity of the teams by far. She looks gorgeous in red.
Blinnikova/Karpov have one of the clearest splits on the twist currently. Big throw, she couldn't quite keep her foot off the ice on the landing. Managed to just get the 3Ts under control, well done.

Ksenia G looks to be in good shape.

Sofia Z other than the popped flip that was very costly she didn’t look too bad especially considering she is coming back after a year of injury, I hope she has a better free so she can get a spot.

Polina makes me sad, she had so much potential. It’s really disappointing that things just never worked out for her. I’m hoping for a good free from her but she just doesn’t seem to be in good shape rn.

I'm curious what happened. She has never been too good with jumps but was somewhat consistent skater. Then, she suddenly lost all of her jumps in the middle of 2023/24 season and disappeared for some time. Probably a health problem. Nice to see her still being around. Her programs are unique. Probably she'll become a choreographer like her brother.

Andrey Rud has a new partner, it seems to be a better fit for him as pair element especially lifts no longer look very laboured and scary.

Do we know if Varya has someone new or what’s her plans are for the future?

She was on Icepartnersearch but hasn't updated her bio in six months. Based on her IG, she's been travelling a lot, but I'm not really sure about anything skating-related.

Marinina/Chernenko's program is cute and fun, even though the music cuts are very abrupt. A number of mistakes, but I see the vision.

Shayakhmetova/Breslavsky attempted a 3T+3T+2A and 3Lo. The jumps didn't work out today, but this will score really high when they get them done.
The outfits are a bit trippy, but they work for a Cirque du Soleil program. Some nice choreographic touches throughout, and cool start and end pose.

Sazhina/Belkin with a 3Tw, 3Lz+2A+2A and 3F, 3LzTh (step-out) and 3STh (bit slow with the free leg). The timing on the sbs jumps isn't synchronised yet, but this is Polina's first pairs skating competition.. They'll definitely be a threat later on this season or next at the latest.

Welp. Sometimes it's also the coaches meddling.

Some my late thoughts on SPb cup.

I liked Zubkova's Indila program. Unfortunately she lacks SS but the program and the costume are pretty and a good match.

Sofia Z matured a lot. Gorgeous choreo. Hopefully the pop was a fluke.

Pulina with Chebotareva's program wasn't on my bingo card. Potentially a lady with one of the best programs in the country. Unfortunately I doubt Chebotareva might help with her jumps. Want to see this SP when she's in shape.

Stroganov - what's the point in attempting 4F with the edge problem that is always called?

Ternovskiy with Honkai Stal Rail program is another surprise. And he clearly worked on PCS a lot. I really want to see it somewhat clean at least once.

But the biggest surprise in the 3rd place after men's SP.
Igor Efimchuk left skating in 2018. Today he came, landed a quad, became a medal contender. ⁉️

Sweet Karenina by Semion. Another skater who improved his artisty. The shape is not peak (as it should be) but a solid skate. I hope a comeback after a disaster season is coming. To be honest, I was afraid that he had retired and Saint Petersburg didn't even include him to its local team.

OMG, Moskaleva/Rodzyanov's throw. :points:

Judges sort of threw the book at Kiseleva considering they didnt call Gushchina's Toe loop at all and gave her -2s for hand on ice while Kiseleva got almost straight -5s... the PCS is also brutal does she really deserve the 2nd lowest of the tournament? Her CO can not seriously be lower than Chatkina.

Kshetskaya looks faster than I remember but the choreo, music and outfit are all dire no offence. I hope the FS is better. Really that goes for everyone. The programs themselves were just not up to standard at all. Gushchina's SP is a disaster for me too no offence to her either.

I'm glad Muravieva sat out it makes test skates much more exciting. I suppose it was expected. This event definitely has me even more confident Muravieva is going to be hard carrying this season and most definitely the ladies' Peterburgite representation.
