The problem with these 3 are that they can do it score wise but they have yet to prove they can put two good skates back to back. We could see a big flip in final results from the short program. Hate to think the winning man will be the one who scores just OK in both the short and free but doesn't win either.
2025 Canadian Nationals: General Info and pre-game chat

Yes and no. We know who will be the top 4 or 5 but in what order. We have seen in Dance that our top teams are showing they can falter at times. And this could lead to some changes in final results. Same in Pairs. Deanna and Max have not been having a good season but will still win, however Lia and Trennt have shown weakness and there are a couple other teams who could jump over them with great skates.
But I do agree Ladies is hard to say who will win let alone medal. Depending on which Maddie shows up she may not even make the podium. But still think she would be sent to worlds as none of the other ladies are as accepted by international judges.
For Senior Women, I'll go with Amy Shao Ning Yang and Kara Yun. Amy won Challenge and Kara had her best free skate of the season there. For Amy, she's had a good sectionals and really good Challenge in a row, so I'm hoping she can build on it for Nationals. She doesn't have the technical content of the other women though. Kara does have the technical content and has been working on her underrotations.
Senior Men, I'd say John Kim is my bet for the wildcard. He won the short program for Junior Men at both Nationals and Challenge last season. He tends to be stronger in the short than the free, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him in podium position after the short.

For the wild cards
I think for women though she is the Canadian champion, it would be Kaiya. She has not had a good season at all. I have a hard time deciding how to even include her in my predictions because she could be anywhere from 1 to 8-9. However, her coaching change has already shown improvement on spins... will it be enough time to fix the jumping issues she has (URs)
I don't think Amy is going to do so well at Nationals. She scored really well to qualify and skated well to do so but her limited content will catch up to her.
Uliana is the one who is on the rise in my opinion... but I still prefer watching KMS... who in some ways, as it's her first good season with her first international experience (and what a thrill- winning the whole damn event) is also a wild card....

I have special affection for Edrian. He will be skating at home. It may be his last ever event... considering his age. His tech content is very limited at this point without a 3a nor a quad... but if he does everything well, he could be in the final flight and who knows. Anthony won bronze last year, without 3a nor quads and actually with a big deduction when he stopped in the free to fix his laces...
Talking of which, Anthony will always be a dark horse until he gets the content he needs to shine... because he scores really well on everything he does well, from spins, to PCS, to choreo etc. If he gets it together, he could medal again.
With pairs, it seems a bit simpler. Only 6 teams this year and one of them is essentially still competing as a junior team internationally. I would say that Jazzy and Kiki could create a surprise here if more established teams falter. They do not have steady SBS passes yet but they have a lot going on for them this season.
Dance : i think the top 2 are locks but the rest is up for grabs. Fabbri Ayer are my pick for bronze because of the trajectory of their journey which seems to be upwards while Lauriault and Le Gac are having a tough and rough season in a downward spiral.... For 5th place, it's also tricky.. BBs have been faves of mine for a long time but they don't seem to have had enough mileage this year with his injury and I have not yet seen them skate well this season.

Wildcards
For women: Katherine Medland Spence is my vote. She is on a trajectory and has the content. Definitely a candidate for a podium finish (hope I didn't just jinx her) I would love to see Kaiya get her jump rotations back tho too.
For men: I would love to see John Kim show in competition what he can do. I think he is special. But I would rather have all our top boys put together two solid skates (no pops, no stupid falls) so there is a real competition
For pairs: Lia and Trentt had a good second GP - much better than the first and I think they are safe for silver. Fiona and Ben are my wild card tho - they have improved so much over the season. They might take bronze. I do like Kelly Ann and Loucas but they do need to up skating skills to get the necessary international nod of approval. Jazmine and Kieran - they are wonderful to watch but need to be more solid on throws and jumps. Fingers crossed for them.
For dance: Alicia and & Paul for bronze. I like Marie-Jade and Romain but they seem to be struggling this year - not sure why.

For the two singles disciplines, I think the priority for Worlds needs to be securing an olympics spot for Canada via progression to the free. On this basis, I think that SP consistency is the most important thing this year and not total score potential.
At last year's Worlds, the qualification score after the SP was 73.23 for men and 56.82 for women.
For men, Roman and Aleksa Rakic have both achieved that score in two competitions this season and have missed it for three. Wesley has achieved it twice (once only just) and missed it twice. It is difficult to choose between the three of them at the moment.
Among the ladies, Maddie only missed last year's qualification score at Cranberry Cup, which was very early in the season. She has had a few points leeway (or more) in all of her competitions since. Uliana has achieved it in 2/3 competitions, but the one where she missed it was Challenge, which was the most recent. If I was making the selection, I would want comfortable scores at both Nationals and 4CC, to make sure that the Challenge one was just a blip and not a downward trajectory. Katherine Medland-Spence missed the score in her three early season competitions, but did exceed it reasonably comfortably on her two more recent ones. I would want nationals and 4CC scores to confirm that upward trajectory. Kaiya, Fee-Ann and Sara-Maude have been struggling to achieve last year's qualification score in their short programmes this season and, even if they managed to win nationals, I think it would be risky to select them for Worlds this year.
For all of the above, I am basing things on the scores shown on skating scores. This does not include some of the domestic events.

Synchro is introducing Combined TES minimums for this season. I'm not going into depth for this since a) they are fairly low at the moment and b) their international season starts a week after Nationals finishes so they could have higher CTES by the time the selections are made. Every Canadian team that competed internationally last season made the minimums, with Les Supremes Senior having 122.77 currently as their CTES.

In case any skaters have a good Nationals but haven't gotten an international assignment in the fall, here are the target scores for an international assignment for this season. Skate Canada may choose a Senior B later in the season for them to attend. They could also be selected for a Challenger next season based on their scores at Nationals.

Hard to believe that Canada may not have a man in the free and therefore not qualify for an entry for the Olympics. I can remember one year that we had no lady entry (due to an injury the year before at worlds), but can not remember when we did not have at least 1 male entry.
It is a genuine possibility. Last year, a fall on a high value element, a couple of poor landings, or going clean but without a quad and/or 3A was enough to take men out of the free. Adam Siao Him Fa only qualified because he was given a high PCS, and I'm not sure he would have done so without his reputation.
It's always a possibility that whoever goes may not qualify for the free. But there's still the opportunity to qualify a spot at the qualifying competition if that happens. It's not ideal, but I'm sure Skate Canada would send someone to it if needed. And they could send a man to compete in the team event only if they weren't able to qualify a spot that way.
I'll wait until it gets to that point, whoever goes could rise to the occasion just as much as succumbing to the pressure.

If it gets to that point, perhaps Keegan could be persuaded to come out of retirement!
If it gets to that point, I'd rather they put the effort into developing the NextGen men over bringing back a retired skater who moved on. They showed a lot of promise at Challenge for the most part and they'll be the ones competing for 2030. It wouldn't solve any issues in the long-term by doing that.

Gosh... how much did the schedule change ? Did you check ? If not, I will go through each events to make sure I have the right time listed.... but that won't be until tonight...
