2025 Four Continents Pairs Free Skate

Trennt was enjoying the music that started when the officials and all were leaving!

I feel bad for Efimova and Mitrofanov - like why bother to skate two great programs?

Ehh, they're good, but they are not great at this point. E/M have issues with SBS jumps (maybe overall improving) and are noticeably weaker on the lifts compared to the top teams. They are still learning to be confident as new US champions and as a new international team. I'm on the fence about K/O being ahead when K/O have major throw errors and they had their own SBS jump errors today. K/O's GOE and PCS really hold them up, but I don't think that's undeserved either. But honestly, nice, flowy throw landings? Efimova is very good at that, and it's starting to be as refreshing to see in pairs as landed SBS triples, lol.

I'm so incredibly happy for Deanna and Max! And I think they were happy too 😁
This was the program they needed heading into worlds. All of a sudden, the podium looks much more in reach again. And I'll go against the grain and say I love this water program. I think it works great for them. And still some room for improvement!

I thought Pereira/Michaud were once again underscored in the LP. Thrilled for them to land on the podium, and I'm incredibly impressed she skated this well when ill. I think between this competition and Canadians they are officially out of their slump. I love both of their programs this year — they are different from the typical style in favour right now and it's so refreshing. Sing, sing, sing is old school, but in the best way, and like I said, it sounds and looks different, setting them apart. And their tango is amazingly choreographed.

The thing about Pereira/Michaud is that they don't have any glaring weaknesses. With K/O, you cringe/pray when they go into the SBS jumps and throws. With M/K, it's one of the throws that they are likely to mess up. P/M may make mistakes, but you don't go into the program wondering if they are going to mess up element X AGAIN, or if a miracle will happen THIS TIME.

I think you're being really disrespectful toward them. That was a good result. The medallists here were just better.

Besides which, they weren't flawless. The side by side jumps were a problem for them.

I guess we could say there were a lot of positives about the free skate and pairs competition

Great that Japan finally showed what we knew they were capable of. This season hasn't been great. But since 2022 and "demise" at least temporarily of Russia and loss of top Chinese teams This Japanese team looked to inherit the Crown and dominate. It hasn't been the case . There are a lot of good teams but not super great. But here they did two great programs and really look to be the favourites. On the other hand they won by over 7 pts but were not that dominant as I once anticipated.

For Deanna and Max the free skate was some redemption but they still don't look as fast as the japanese and their pcs are not convincing of a top team. Still they are a contender for a world medal against the Germans and Italians.

Lia and Trennt must be over the moon they had a solid skate if not unspectacular and won bronze. Nice accomplishment and great for them. However, I would worry that a messy, problem filled program from Danny and Ellie almost beat them. So yay bronze but take away one mistake and the bronze would be the messy US team.

Kam and Oshea may have had a lot of problems in the freeskate but their scores including the pcs suggest the judges like them and would place them higher without some of those errors. Three spots for the olympics is not out of the realm for US with their teammates.

US second team EM were solid and though not as spectacular as US Nats continue to get stronger.

It's a fair podium. I like the Japanese and admire their skating. I applaud the athleticism of a 41-year-old with Deanna and Max but I am not a fan of their music selection and overall performance. Deanna and Max moves are just a series of point-getters for me; there is no real coherence to the music. Disappointed for Ellie and Danny. Despite their weaknesses, their strengths - those tremendous lifts, positions and musicality- really make them stand out. I want to think/hope that these jumps and throw errors can be rectified by Worlds and they will have a top 5 finish. I am also happy for Lia and Trennt. They continue to make steady progress. Their SP really is a winner!

They have been held up so much it’s embarrassing. If they get scored more accurately it might actually help them be better
Embarrassing is the word. In my 55 years of watching FS I had a fair share of moments like this so it’s not the first time and sadly not the last. I felt so frustrated yesterday after watching the pairs free that could not watch other disciplines. Yes, it is perfectly understood that it’s 12 months to the Olympics, and Alisa has no citizenship and that USA needs a strong pair for the team event but do they have to make it so plainly obvious?

It does get off putting. I wonder why they have so many judges. That’s a bit embarrassing also. I mean what are they doing

Even more distressing is the all-out push for Shin/Nagy, also citizens—which I think has actually hurt them, as witnessed by their performance in the LP at 4CCs. Please, let’s back off a bit, and let them work through things without having to feel pressured to prove themselves as the Next Big Thing.
