2025 Grand Prix de France Pairs Short Program

The pairs competition is going to be brutal this year, the Olympics will be on fire! The Canadian and Japanese teams are already medal contenders in my eyes.
I can't wait to see how they do at the Olympics as well! Will Riku and Ryuichi maintain that fire? Can Deanna and Maxime take things up a notch? It's gonna be something else!!!

I think the Japanese and Hungarians must be thrilled with their skates. Now Deanna and Max did well here but I think their pcs says a lot I noted when they didn't skate well their pcs did not hold them up. On a relatively decent skate they were miles behind the Japanese this does not look good for their future - theHungarians were closer in pcs to them then Max and Deanna to Rsquared. I noticed this for a while that the Canadians are not respected pc wise. Still a decent score for Max and Deanna which suggests they are not going down without a fight to the Georgians, Germans et al. let alone Sui and Han and the Japanese. But they have yet to show they are able to score 80.

Taking a moment to put on my Uncle Sam hat and be nationalistic... I think the USA pairs have to be happy, too.

Both teams managed to complete their programs on their feet the whole time! Some things to tidy up, absolutely. But considering the flopping about we see all too often, I'm calling this a big move in the right direction.

Yes, it was a relatively decent skate. I'd call it better than that actually. But the Japanese delivered a spectacular program. And they should. This is Year 2 of Paint it Black. We'll see if the gap closes as Max and Deanna refine over the season. I'm betting it will.

I think the Japanese totally outskated Deanna and Max. Theirs was a well planned program with beautiful music and very, very good choreography.

This music works so well with Deanna's fire, but I also like the slower opening that lets them show off their lyrical side. I love the backflip in the step sequence and the way they work through the build of the music. My only complaint is that they looked a little slower than usual, especially heading into the throw, and this music demands speed and power.

This was my favorite performance of the night! The backflip was very cool to see, thought they had great presentation.

However, I will admit that this was what my brain was "hearing" as the skate went on.

I'm happy that Pavlova/Svyatchenko are starting on a good SP. I think they really delivered an improvement in PCSs that they needed to compete. Fingers crossed for the free skate

Miura and Kihara were much more synchronized today and much better on the technical elements.Deserved gap.

I've loved Paint it Black from the first time I saw it last season. I do not expect Deanna/Max to be at that level yet with their program since this is a new program this season.

And I think it's a spectacular new program. Love the music, it matches their intensity. Lots of great choreographic touches, like the placement of the throw on the music, as well as the death spiral at the end. The footwork with the backflip is genius. I know the back flip is polarizing for some, but I think it's brilliant and fits seamlessly into the program, hitting right with the music. So many of the elements are the same from team to team, I love to see them have something that makes them stand out from the crowd. You could hear the response from the audience. This is only going to get better, faster and stronger as the season goes. They also did great with levels here. It's so great to see them back in form this season.

Wasn't able to watch live but just enjoyed the Replay. Overall, I thought this event was very satisfying! Sometimes the first GP can be a little ragged, but this had some really sharp, polished looking skating. Riku and Ryuchi had a good energy and confidence. Riku is going to need to get that 3T around this season. I loved Deanna and Max's Carmina Burana and appreciated that they didn't start out with O Fortuna! The Lori Nichol choreo looked good on them. I enjoyed the back flip and the timing of a couple moves right on the beat of the music. Happy to see the two U.S. pairs do well. Tomorrow is gonna be exciting for the free!!!! Hope to watch live.

When I sang in Burana a couple of times many years ago, the tenor section (it's always the tenors :laugh4:) had their own version that began the same way with a cat wanting tuna, but of course there was no YouTube or other more recent references then. I'll never be able to hear this again for real without disgracing myself laughing :rofl::ROFLMAO:.
