2025 Skate Canada Free Dance

I love this program from them. Finally someone went out on a limb and gave us something new..

Allison is saying something was loose on her costume, but it was okay.
Her top came unhooked behind her neck. You could see it at the end of the replays. But the rest of the top stayed in place.

I didn't know exactly what happened from Alison's remark or the commentary, but could see it in the replay.

I checked protocols and it looks like one choreo element is not even listed for Mrazeks - their choreo slide is missing but there's one deduction for fall. Interesting.

Chris, no need to remind us about that...way to ruin the moment

Love Piper's dress. It is gorgeous and fits beautifully. Paul has a simple blue shirt and black pants.
I don't know ... I mean, it's clearly connected to the Starry Night theme, but I almost think that it's a bit too... literal. I preferred when Paul wore that shirt that looks more like a painters frock and thought it connected them better. What would be really cool would be a costume that was like two parts of a paintbrush or something. I know that sounds weird, but imagine as if she's the painting, and he's the painter, so maybe instead of her entire dress looking like starry night, it could be more simple towards the top and sleeves and stuff and then kind of blossom into more color. I think that would be

An overall underwhelming competition. I think that Lajoie&Laga showed the best potential (why Laga almost NEVER look at the eyes of his partner while dancing with her??). I was rooting for Piper/Gilles, because they were the most innovative and underrated team in the last 3 years, but what I've seen today (besides the fault) was an unpleasant surprise. It will not be enough to challenge the best ones.
It is almost unbelievable that Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron's program (its music, concept, choreography, tecnical difficulty and aesthetic) was done by the same coaches and team than most of these programs and those I've seen last week.
Because I think that IAM is the best recent team, the only reason could be that they know perfectly their sportmen and they realized how superior the French team is and none of the others capable to perform a program like that.

I really want to like starry night but it bores me. I know some people are moved to tears apparently. I really like the rhythm dance though. It’s fun and reminds me of PP in earlier days. I like the avant- guard Lithuanian team.

Phew, I am glad Piper and Paul had this performance at Skate Canada rather than it happen at Finlandia Trophy. I estimate they lost about 6 points on the lift and about 2 points on Piper’s level 3 twizzle, so their score could have been 126 without those errors. Of course, the technical errors affected their PCS as well. It’s okay, you can’t be perfect all the time, and this performance will make them hungrier for later in the season.

But I think the Lithuanians were vastly overscored for that dull mess.
"Dull" is a matter of taste, but a mess it was not. They were technically strong, and that's exactly why they won the FD over Gilles/Poirier and Lajoie/Lagha who were a mess indeed. Often being a better skater is not enough, and this was one of those cases.

Will there be a replay of the free dance on CBC somewhere? I had to go out, and should have been back in time to watch but the person driving had car trouble and I got home after it was all over. I've seen Piper and Paul's program on the CBC sports news just now, but none of the other performances.

They'll post the entire FD competition to cbc.ca
