2025 Skate Canada Rhythm Dance

I think she did, but didn't make the games. In 2014 it was the same story in reverse: Piper had just got citizenship, but was edged out of the games by Weaver/Poje.
Paul and Islam were 3rd in 2014 and edged out Gilles and Poirier, not Weaver and Poje, who were 2nd. That was the season Paul Poirier was injured and they had lacked training time as a result going into that Nationals.

I don't think it will be changed. It's very well mixed with the You gotta work song.

I mean... it's kind of uncanny that only two teams have taken this song considering that it does say " I m too sexy for Milan "
I agree, actually. That edit sounded like there'd been some time and money spent. I just think it's always a good idea to be the only ones using your music.

On another note, I do like Carreira/Ponomarenko's RD. Some good choreography in that as well, and I actually like the music. Another example of an unfortunate error (I'm sure they wanted to definitively outscore Zingas/Kolesnik from last week, and the door was wide open for them after LaLa's mistake.

I agree very much on this. I was so hopeful
I, myself, was at primarily at concerts and the industrial/goth clubs. Didn't fit the more generic/popular clubs where Adidas and track suits were the thing. But my appreciation for sourcing the best of any music genre was part of my work at the time.

It's so much easier to research anything now. Especially music. You can search by bpm online now. No excuse for not finding something appropriate, even with this hard theme (90s, clubs, 120 bpm for part of it).

I'm surprised how many people have gone with rock.
I'm not. Having spent years in the skating world, I've encountered a sizeable number of coaches, skaters, judges, officials, etc. who just aren't all that interested in music beyond a popular level of consumption.

It is a sport first, after all, is what I have to remind myself

Piper and Paul's score at Skate Canada is ALWAYS an outlier, every single season. Let's see them on neutral territory. My two cents, their RD is good, cute and fun in some places, in others flat. I agree with those who think FB/Ciz have more attack and rizz; a better program overall. FB/Ciz also have loads more speed and impactful choreo. Piper is oft too campy, while Paul is a tad too stiff. In my humble opinion, its FB/Ciz against C/B, F/G, and G/P. These are the top contenders; may the best skates on the night actually win.

If you are not a paid Peacock subscriber, you can't view their tiles.

If you are, search on figure skating and the tiles come up.
Thanks! I am, but weirdly, the RD was not showing up for me. Maybe it was the transition from live to replay, but the tile doesn't usually disappear completely -- from all searches and from "my stuff." Strange.

Thankfully, it has finally reappeared. I was out doing election stuff and couldn't watch my fave discipline live!

Just rewatched Piper and Paul for the 2nd time. I noticed more speed on this 2nd watch; I was so nervous for them watching the 1st time. This program really has such potential to be a viral moment once they really skate it with more abandon and attack. It’s my favorite RD of the season now! 💕 :hap10:❤️ 🥇 These 2 have been denied for so long; I really want them to push for gold this season! I think their material has the potential to do it. I imagine their “Vincent Reimagined” will slay.

I was too young to go clubbing in most of that decade :). but the music I listened to WAS NOT. BSB, Ricky Martin, ACDC etc...

I'm not going to lie, my favourite rhythm dance of the season is still Lim/Quan Men in Black, by a good margin.

But of the top teams, give me Piper and Paul. This performance was cautious, to be expected for a first outing, and I think the program really has the potential to grow. With how good it already looked, I'm hopeful. If it had nowhere left to go, I'd be worried. Of course, it's already a plus that they're not in cheap clown costumes like last Olympics RD.

I'm all for giving them all the points here to signify they're in the game to the rest of the world (ahem, Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron in France).

Agreed. It felt to slow, and as well, I would say that it felt too careful. Paul is such a precise technician, but sometimes I feel like he skates with a 2x4 down his back, and a passionless smile pasted on his face while Piper is doing all the emoting. Paul needs to seriously loosen up for this program, because while his disconnected Vibe works for things like vincent, both sides now, and other programs, he needs to get into this and sell it more. The only short dance that I think they have ever really knocked it out of the park with was the one a few years ago during the season that Piper had to get surgery. Man, they were on the way to being world champions because, along with the great free dance that they normally have, they had by far the best Rhythm dance as well. Anyway, I feel that this year is shaping up to be similar to previous years in the sense that regardless of what happens in the free dance, they're going to lose it in the Rhythm dance so far the French team is looking like a lock for gold... if only Piper and Paul could put together two excellent programs in one year, I really think they could take the title, but this was pretty underwhelming.
It's not like FB/C is lighting the world on fire in their very generic retread vogue RD.

Yea sorry, I've got to disagree with you on Paul being too stiff. Maybe in this first outing at Skate Canada due to nerves, but Paul is one of the prime examples of this generation of what a male ice dancer should be and how he should skate. While I've come to like Cizeron's skating more as time passes, if I had to choose b/t the two, it's not going to be him.

I would give G/P time with this program to skate it more than once in competitions this season and it's going to be so much better. It wasn't bad at all and I love it, it's one of my favorites of the season actually.

To be totally honest, I had totally forgotten that the French used vogue. I wasn't even referring to the Rhythm dance or even their programs in general - just the general response that they've been getting, which includes undeniably high scores. I definitely think Piper and Paul are capable of staying in contact after the Rhythm dance, but I don't think this program is going to bring down the house or push them ahead

Fair enough. There is definitely a big push on for the French.

Paul's personality shining through their dance movements is one of the reasons I so enjoyed their RD. It is early in the season and I respect the way they usually grow their programs as the season progresses.
