2025 World Team Trophy Men's FS

So they can give him PCS that isn't outrageous, wow, somebody make them keep it up, he will only benefit and won't get the backlash for overscoring

I was quite surprised too to see that they have toned down the huge over-scoring of Illia's PCS by a visible margin here. It could in theory mean that someone at ISU finally realized that blatantly pushing an one-man show is actually counterproductive (because an event looses basically all competitive interest if the winner is known beforehand no matter what, it discourages other skaters, does no real good for the pushed athlete who looses legitimacy, etc) and ends-up driving people away.

But of course, this is just one skate, not even one full event. So, most likely, this is just an outlier like that tech panel at GPF was, and things will be back to usual at the next competition, especially considering next season it's an Olympic one. It would be very unexpected for the ISU to all-of-the sudden drop the political push just before the Olympics.

The men looked understandably tired today after the long season. Still, there were some really good performances. Jason was magnificent. Kevin also skated beautifully after the mistakes on the quad attempts, so did Yuma.

Grassl's impressive 3rd here virtually secures the top 3 for Italy.

Does this 1-2 finish guarantee a victory for the US? Can team Japan still catch them if Alysa finishes 3rd? Not that I think that will happen.

The USA have a 15 point lead.
If the results from the women and pairs are similar, the USA would still need by about 10 points.

The Japanese are favourites to win the pairs (12 points) and I think the Americans will earn 8 points, maybe 9.

So let's say the Japanese earn back 4 points, they are still behind by 11 points.

You'd need the Japanese making 12 points more than the Americans in the women.

It is possible in theory. it is very unlikely considering who is there right now... The Japanese women would need to place 1-2 and hope for many skaters to outrank at least one of the two Americans... if not both... I don't see how the French, Italians, lower ranked Canadian and Georgian skaters can beat Alisa/Amber.

Thank you so much. You always come through for me.

He popped the 3S. It has been pointed out to me that the 3S was positioned where he used to attempt a 4S. Maybe he had a bit of flashback. But everything else was beautiful.
That is an interesting point. I have heard it said that the technique for a quad versus a triple (or for a 3A compared to a 2A) are sufficiently different that when you start training the higher-revolution jump that throws off the timing of the lower.

Nah, he got lower marks than usual because he skated worse than he usually does.

Love Jason’s skating, but this is something that is a recurring theme with him.
This is true and it's usually with the Sal. It could be, as was posited earlier, due to the difference in technique in the triple and quad salchow. All skaters make mistakes, but Jason needs a perfect program to get on the podium at most competitions. It's something they need to work on. And I'm sure that they do. I remember Shoma Uno having trouble with triples when he was jumping multiple quads. He lamented that he had forgotten how to jump triples. He hadn't forgotten, but he was prone to error on the triples. He worked that out. Jason did say that he is training quads again, but he's less neurotic about it. But he used to compete with a quad sal, and he might be training that again. He may need to rewire his brain on the Sal.

That’s good to know.

Jason is never trying quads ever again.
