She trains in Dubai, so for obvious reasonsMarie Beiwert UAE is no longer on the entries for women.
I think the skaters based in those countries should be fine. I checked Qantas, they posted that they aren't currently expecting any service interruptions. I looked on Instagram, Rio Nakata posted a story about being on a flight so he should be fine to arrive on time (he's the only one I checked who had posted a story.) Practices start Tuesday, so they should be on their way.And it started me thinking about Junior Worlds and people coming in the other direction. If they are not in Europe already, could we see the likes of tha Aussie and Kiwi skaters having to withdraw due to not being able to get to Estonia? Or what about skaters from the likes of China, Japan, or Korea? If their flights stop off in the Middle East, they mightn't be able to get to Estonia.

This is your capt. speaking. Capt coyote says lots of airplanes full of wonderful skaters coming. On the one hand, that is reassuring to hear. But on the other, I wouldn't want to be going anywhere near that part of the world!
I knew flights to Australia normally stop off in the UAE, but I wasn't sure about the Far Eastern countries. In theory, you would expect flights from those countries to take a more direct route over Russia. But, you can't assume anything these days.
Thank you for going to the effort of checking.![]()

Yay! The brothers are together!! We will have a brotherly skate-off...Tadeas Vaclavik CZE has replaced Jakub Tykal in men. Tadeas is the brother of the previously discussed Lukas Vaclavik, who will be competing here for Slovakia.

Wow, didn't realize it even tho watched both Korean competitionsbecause she didn't do well enough at Korean competitions
"Tens of thousands of flyers are currently stranded in Dubai following significant flight cancellations caused by regional airspace closures on March 1, 2026. Approximately 20,000 Russian tourists are among those unable to depart, with thousands more trapped inside Dubai International Airport"A lot of flights from Asia going westbound goes via Dubai...I guess a lot of people are stuck right now...
They are not on Skating ISU either (where ISU will livestream and archive the entire competition), so I guess they take their time ...Can’t find tiles on Peacock.
Russia (understandably) banned a lot of international airlines from its air space. On the one hand, that is reassuring to hear. But on the other, I wouldn't want to be going anywhere near that part of the world!

I was about to say that they were up - then I realised that they were speed skating!ISU has been late with putting the tiles up this whole season. I guess they'll be online tomorrow at some point.
Senior worlds short track is in Montreal this weekend I think and long track is in the Netherlands... so lots of tiles for the ISU to put up... they really need to hire someone and not trust volunteers to manage their social media and write their rulebookI was about to say that they were up - then I realised that they were speed skating!![]()
Chinese skaters have the option of utilizing flights that pass through Russia as China is not subject to the same geopolitical restrictions on flights as the West. There's no need to worry about them.I was reading last night that next week's opening Formula 1 race in Melbourne could be in doubt because nearly everybody is based in Europe, and the flights from Europe to Australia have to stop over in the Middle East to refuel. And the current situation means this is not possible.
And it started me thinking about Junior Worlds and people coming in the other direction.
And that is before we even get to the skaters that are actually based in the Middle East.
Last week, I was speculating that if Stefania Yakovleva withdrew from the Bellu Memorial, it could be an indication that Vasilisa Bogomolova hadn't recovered sufficiently from her injury, and that Stefania was being called up to Junior Worlds to replace her. Well, Stefania did withdraw.
However, Stefania is based in Dubai. So, if Vasilisa isn't fit enough to compete and Stefania can't get to Estonia, Cyprus could be left with nobody at Junior Worlds. Which will have implications for the Junior GP slots next season. And with Olivia Bazlova becoming age eligible for Juniors next season, they need slots for both her and Vasilisa.
Oh, it's a pity that Olivia isn't age eligible already. Because she actually trains in Estonia!
