I like skaters who pay attention to stsq and choreo sequence. I might be minority, but those are too low scored in basic. Good ones should get more reward.

Okay, I’ll take that from Andrew. Had he +REPPED twice, however, I would have jumped through the television screen! Please move the 2T to the first 4T please and thank you. But this was a great Olympic debut for him and much better than his free skates at Worlds! Great choreo sequence too.

Welcome back to "This Is Why We Put the Combo On The First Jump!" I'm your host, and today, we have the almost-spectacular skate from Andrew that could have scored 6-8 more points if he had gotten a combo off on that first 4T! He lost around 3-4 points for the combo itself, and another 3 or so in BV for the second 4T.

Apart from that (costly and very avoidable) error, this was a great skate from Andrew, and redemption after his meltdown at Worlds last year. He always does the best choreo sequences, he was on the edge of disaster throughout with his speed but it was sooooo exciting and I'm glad to see the judges running with his GOE on that element.

I've always said it - get your combination in at the first available opportunity. Because they way things play out may mean that you mightn't get another opportunity.

But do they listen?

No. They are tempted too much by the thought of getting bonus points for doing it later.

And it has cost Andrew TORGASHEV (USA)

He goes into 5th position in both the FS and overall.
