Pre-event updates:

Kao's right boot totally split open yesterday on a 3A landing (it's an Edea, and when Edeas go, they go). He's taped it heavily and put some supports in, he has a pair of backups boots but feels more comfortable using this pair. He just struggles more with stepouts and with the 4Lo now.

Yuma's blade was chipped as a result of Bladegate yesterday, but Japan got his blades to a workshop this morning where Kusaka-sensei, aka Shun's very excited coach, helped to shave down around the nicks and they should be all good to go now

People are saying Adam's jump axis looks the best it ever has... hopefully good news for him going into the individual event

BladeGate?
Lol--I just asked the AI on Duck Duck Go about this, and got a strange answer. To start with, all it told me was about some ongoing controversy regarding skaters 'modifying their blades' in order to gain a competitive edge. I have never heard of this. When I chatted back to the AI about the damage to blades after the podium-mounting business for the Team medal awards, AI perked right up and spat back at me the same info I had just told it...needless to say, I cleared out of their cute little chat and got rid of it. Am wondering if it just invented the part about the 'blade modification'?

No. https://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/a...katers-blades-after-team-event-214053445.html

I just Googled Bladegate....of all things, the team ceremony podium surface wasn't covered properly with rubber or whatever? That's a first for me! https://www.chosun.com/english/sports-en/2026/02/10/ZHKZZN5ORRCS5NDAXDG3RCIE4A/ I forget no one brings their skate guards with them on the podium...I wonder if this is a first ever among podiums in the last 20 years LOL. Hope everyone's blades were fixed!

I read the article, and couldn't find anything there about skaters trying to find a competitive edge by having their blades modified. The article only mentioned that some skaters had damaged blades due to the unusual podium surface, and quickly had to have their blades sharpened, polished, etc in order to be able to skate on them. Maybe I missed something.
You can't really modify the blades to gain anything, there are tech regulations and laws of physic, so you can try to make blades lighter or absorb the shock from landings better. There are blades from Blade Science that are supposed to do this, but they aren't very popular, maybe due to pricing.

Wow, Kevin is the oldest.

I wonder if the silly robot is thinking of the whole scandal with ski jumpers and their suits and a part of the body that I don't think I can mention...
(Yes, it's a real thing)

You can't really modify the blades to gain anything, there are tech regulations and laws of physic, so you can try to make blades lighter or absorb the shock from landings better. There are blades from Blade Science that are supposed to do this, but they aren't very popular, maybe due to pricing.
I speculate that the AI didn't find anything about a bladegate, correctly scinded the word into blade and gate, and sought something with -gate in other sport and adapted it to blades? I've heard about micro-engines in bicycle wheels for instance.
Maybe there are other sports which may have fed the AI search until they found some "better" feed about what really happened on yesterday's podium.

By the way, and out of topic but as we're speaking of AI search, may I alert you on the AI services offered by browsers and SNS? A tool most of them are using to communicate between the AI and your device, seems to be easy to hack and who hacks it has access to your whole device, and can use it at their will. I don't think that there's a public alert yet but between the moment it's out (and it has been for some days) and the moment the loophole is fixed or another tool is used, there's a danger in using/leaving on your laptop/smartphone any AI tool proposed by your browser or SNS app. This is NOT incurred by merely using your browser without using their AI tools, nor of course by watching AI-generated texts, pictures, videos... And I suppose that it's likely to be fixed in weeks? Hopefully in days.

Entirely possible, LLMs are dumb but are supposed to be helpful, so they will made up things because leaving the user without answer is unhelpful. While using google it's best to ignore the AI part.
