Short track speed skaters said the ice was in terrible condition. It was breaking under their blades.

Of course, I don't think figure skaters are turning at the same high speed with the same kinds of blades... so I don't know if this would have an impact on the men... but yeah... nothing seems to be going right at this venue so far.

I understand that Speed Skaters and Figure Skaters need different qualities in ice? I think that even Ice Dancers are better with a softer ice, and Single and Pairs with a harder one? Olympic Games are so expensive to get, that I suppose that it wasn't possible to have two different rinks to avoid sharing... I wonder if Hockey ice would be better, but then I suppose that their ice is busy all the time.

So far, the men have been practicing on the main rink today without any issues. I'm guessing it is a problem that is only affecting short track, perhaps the ice is only great for figure skaters. So far, skaters have been mostly positive about the ice quality in the venue, they say it feels easy/normal to skate on and they haven't mentioned any problems.

The blades were injured on the medal stand.
Odd. I assume we are talking about the group podium? I didnt know anyone would be so...lets use the word inconsiderate and ignorant....to use a metal podium? M. Chock said there was no problem but how much work would have been involved with a bit of plywood or carpet or ? Very odd.....

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be relaxed about today's event or vomit my guts out preemtively. Yesterday was a nail biter alteady, the free dance will be hell and women I don't even want to think about.
After yesterday, I am more relaxed (resigned). Just keep Rinky in chains.....
Best wishes to Max...just being there is a tremendous victory.
(Lets all relax and if you need a smile, good things are coming.....)

well... marjorie said the ice was bumpy and that's how she scratched her knee. she said it has improved but the ice was far from perfect from the get go

The ice monitor person is very important.....one day at a minor comp in Arizona Yasa Nechaeva came up to me and asked if I was the ice monitor? I told her no, I was just an old man who loved skating...she smiled and walked away but she was clearly concerned about the ice for her dancers. I got to thinking about how fast it would take a sheet of ice to change from one sport to another...there should be people at Olys thinking about this kind of stuff years in advance. (Yasa, I still remember you sitting me down next to your mother in Spokane while you went to work..not telling me she didnt know a word of English. ) Surely there is someone here who knows about ice and how fast after zamboni it can be changed from one sport to another?

Not acceptable....sitting in many front rows, many of us would point out big chips or pieces of costume on the ice. Pairs skaters in lifts and anyone else shouldnt have to worry about ice conditions.

Who is ready for some Tuesday night chaos?

Livestream for the Men's SP is now on air.

The BBC don't tell us what they will be showing on each channel, or if it will include the skating. So I will hedge my bets and provide links to both broadcasts.

There is no UHD coverage tonight due to TNT Sports Ultimate showing the West Ham United v Manchester United football match.

All the other information you may need is in the OP of this thread.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

I'm afraid that due to today's skating starting an hour earlier than the past few days, I will be eating during the first group. And since Petr is likely to be in contention (he'd better be, for the sake of my Predictions!), I can't just skip the group to join you guys LIVE. Also, even if I wasn't running an hour behind, I wouldn't be getting the cacti finished tonight anyway due to going to bed.

So, I will watch the Ski Jumping tonight instead, and then watch the whole of the Men's SP in one go tomorrow.

You know, it's a real nuisance my two favourite wintersports being scheduled at the same time in the evening every day!

I am predictably stuck at work and Mom asked me not to watch anything until she flies in tomorrow. So I am just going to check the scores and hope for the best.

I’m choosing to be detached and relaxed. The team event was way too emotionally taxing for me. And my throat is still sore from all the screaming.
