Re-calculating based on the protocols, I kept most folks' PCS the same while bumping Adam up by 1 (so it's just below Yuma), Ilia down by 4 (so it's above Shaidorov, Torgs, Grassl etc. but below Aymoz, Cha, Adam and Yuma), Cha up by 3 (so it's around Adam/Yuma), and Boyang up by 1.5 (so it's around Shaidorov/Torgs/Grassl). That leads me to...

Ilia lead 104.16
Adam 103.55
Yuma 103.07
Cha 96
Grassl 93.46 w/home advantage
Shaidorov 92.94
Aymoz 92.64
Torgs 88.94
Shun 88.7
Boyang 88.55

Which feels about right to me also looking at the TES, more or less

The way Malinin lands the backflip is really aesthetically unpleasing. He almost looks like he is going to sit down on the landing. He should get training from Surya Bonaly and learn to land that flip more upright.
Better yet - just eliminate the back tuck salto = why do it when there's nothing to be gained except showing the world bad form? I know I know - they do it because the majority of the audience are totally clueless and think it's spectacular...but it's ugly, clumsy and lacking grace.

I think over-wrought is a fair assessment... the one thing about Adam's that I would have liked was a little more editing and finesse. I appreciate the wildness and he took MANY risks in steps and turns and body movement which made it incredibly exciting to watch. Yuma's especially good at making a lot of variations in blade movement and usage look effortless, which to me is true skating skills mastery.

Occasionally, Fa got too flaily -- like if the Vitruvian Man and Evgeni Plushenko had a baby. But I guess certain people are into that!

Finesse. In Leonardo da Vinci? Not on your life. Everything on the ice is Benoit and Adam's vision to illustrate their interpretation of what was going on inside the head of Leonardo da Vinci. Make sense now? I thought everyone already knew this since Benoit and Adam have talked about it all season long. They enjoy being storytellers together.

This was an excellent comp, with not as much menning. It certainly was a lot more fun than last weekend’s Super Bowl. Except for Bad Bunny who was.🔥 and 🕺. I now want nothing more than a Bad Bunny program. Can we see Donovan with that?

All Super Bowls, however no… But I am a tad biased 🦅
Bad Bunny was on par with Adam, Kevin, Junhwan, Yuma, and all three US men today, Danny and Ellie in the pairs team free, and Matteo in the men's team free as the most inspiring things I've seen in the past week! Benito had me out of my chair and rediscovering my love of Zumba moves. Great idea for Donovan - he should seriously consider skating to some Bad Bunny!

Jun's PCS we're a travesty. Grassl should be below him and the high GOE Ilia gets for his hunched landings compared to the Japanese are just criminal.
I'm so happy Kevin didn't have a meltdown, happy for Matteo, sad for Selevko, but man, Adam just had the program of the night.
When he's on, he's the best in the world to me. I love Yuma's jumps and skating skills, but with the mistake I think he should have been slightly below Adam.

And now I have to sleep I guess. My heart rate isn't back to normal yet 😞

I have to admit I don't get FS scoring but this seems right. Our commentator said that because of the step out Yuma couldn't get any 10s which seems really unfair.

A lot of skaters can have so-so jumps but interpret the music and program so well it doesn't really matter. If anything it's more impressive that they can make you forget the jumps.

I remember Kevin having an absolutely horrible skate jump-wise but he put all his heart into the rest of the program and should be rewarded for that.

Why is that unfair to not give a perfect score to a flawed program? What does he score then without a stepout - 10.25?

You're right of course, Ilia earns his wins (not his PCS though 😬) and he can and should enjoy his fame.
I never said that he is a bad person, on the contrary.
I respect what he does.
I still don't cheer for him, because that kind of skating and behavior is not my favorite.
Luckily there are so many different athletes, we can all find someone to enjoy.
The variety is one of the things I love most about this sport.

Edit: That answer was meant for Charlotte 71, I can't quote your text 🙈

Okay, so because he chooses Leonardo Da Vinci that gives him liberty to be sloppy (not everywhere of course, but definitely in some parts of the program)? I've praised the performance to the nines, but as a matter of personal taste, I do like to see some ebb and flow and greater refinement in the movements, and not have every moment be staccato and crazy (even if it's on theme).

Fun competition. The free is going to be a barn burner. A few falls and a little messiness here and there, but still compelling. I like that the last couple of days I've had five friends text or email me with questions about the competitions or the sport. Hopefully we can pick up a few more fans!!!!

It's wild that Jun's PCS in the last Olympics and got 45.21 and he was basically as good here too and got 42.64. I get that the judges were exceptionally generous in Beijing but even still he should be ahead of Grassl. Grassl did get a q call (and 40.75 felt like "fair" on home ice) so at least it wasn't complete favouritism. They're basically tied anyways and both in the final flight, so it really doesn't matter till the FS.

I blame this on Adam. ISU bowed to the outcry. I would have put in the rules an even higher penalty for doing them in a competition.

So Yuma is over scored in PCS?
In this skate, I think he was fairly scored but did get a couple 9.5's that I don't think were correct... but everyone was to some extent given some candies here and there (definitely disagree with the 10.00 for Ilia, for example - I think that judge just wanted to give a 10 out lol).

I see execution. But then I dance with choreography and he skates with it. I'm not sure where in the choreo you interpret "slop" so what are you precisely referring to? Or are we talking jump entries, back side jump exits or what?

LOL - I'm here for it.

Lol, just turn your head away from that. It's literally 5 seconds in the program and most people are entertained by it.

The world isn't gonna give a damn about a level 4 spin with a change of edge or "nice skating skills". A backflip? That gets people talking, and when our sport needs all the publicity it can get, at the Olympics of all times, I say let 'em rip.
