2026 Olympics: Pairs' Short Program

I saw what happened to O'Shea's previous partner.
Karina Safina. Huge injury. He was displeased when she was slowly coming back. Metelkina was skating with Parkman. So there were two teams representing Georgia back then. They were suddenly split up, Safina vanished/retired and Parkman went to the USA. It was big news all over this forum on how apparently careless he was with Karina Safina. Now,I wasn't following them that much because they were very young... but I am sure you can find out for yourself. Other fans may know more and/or correct me if my already vague memory about this is flawed.

Well, they have scored 81 points for this program, so even with the 6-point loss on the lyft, they still had such a high ceiling that it really isn't that much of a surprise. That's just how the math works, though I agree, had this being based on ordinals, they probably would have been a few places lower.
BS. Look how other top teams were lowballed! M/K never deserved 81+ for this program in the first place. Not even when skated clean. Constant overscores with contact on twist dismount, and always overscored on pcs. They are weak musically and artistically, despite speed, power and great skating skills. They are scored high due to politics!

My matcha pavé squares are based on white chocolate and the Earl Grey ones on milk chocolate :slink: but who eats pavé chocolate for health reasons 😆
My wife actually eats dark chocolate for health reasons and I drink green tea instead of soda! You should see some of the Death by Chocolate deserts in the Speicalty restaurants on cruise ships....

Cool. Still have the best choreographed SP out there.

Would be good if that meant anything nowadays.

To be honest, it's very hard to appreciate any good choreography in their SP because every single second of it looked terribly labored and heavy. No grace or easiness of movements, no lightness in their skating, no energy, no purpose. Just one huge struggle and effort to get the program done, and that's all. Today they were indeed judged on reputation and significantly overscored, especially in PCS, and they didn't deserve to overcome many other couples that now lie behind them in the rakings.

I didn't quite follow them when they won the OGM but I assume those performances must have been day and night compared to the ones they are showing in these Olympics (they had to, because even accounting for home advantage, they did win over great couples). So I think it must be quite sad to see the before and the now of their skating 🙁

I was following them for the longest time. They are no longer as good as they were. That's a given. However, they are still special. I wouldn't score them as high as they were scored. I understand the sympathy and love they get because they were just phenomenal in the past.

You know, I'm not super surprised that the Canadians are in third. They did so well in the team event, and the judges were finally starting to reward them with higher PCS scores, so I had a feeling :-)
Lia & Trennt have had this great sp all season, but haven't always skated it clean. When they did skate it clean, they had issues with their intricately choreographed The Mission fp. As a result, they went back to their Gladiator fp, and that has worked for them.

For all the predictions about what's going to happen in the fp, I would caution everyone that the outcome is unpredictable, as this is the Olympics. I just hope the judges will stop overscoring and gifting teams based on political favoritism. M/K were overscored, as always. Any other team would have been heavily dropped in the standings for that lift error. Plus, they were overscored, as usual for contact on their lift dismount.

Yes I agree with her. I think anything can happen in the FS.
Although I really like Minerva and Nikita so I'm hoping they won't make any mistakes in the free.

Can't believe they are all skating again tomorrow!! The men had 3 days in-between programs!
The men had 2 days in-between sp and fp.

If you are referring to Sui/Han, their choreo is okay, but not the best. Plus, they don't skate it with their former flair and finesse, so it doesn't count. Judges overscored them and then had to scramble to make the scoring look fair for other teams. 😏

They've been saying a head injury but not a concussion. That doesn't seem right to me. Whenever a head hits, a concussion is suspected and person has to be watched for what symptoms develop. Symptoms can be delayed or mild and go away. It's a wait and watch and see situation.
I agreed with whichever commentator it was who said it was probably more that the delay caused by her injury meant they had only two practices to get the feel of that particular rink. I may be projecting, but we had a similar accident in an unfamiliar arena of slightly different dimensions than our own at home. They're both looking outward at eye level, not looking down. She is so much shorter, she sees the top of the boards, realizes they're too close and curves away a fraction, while in that same split second he, his eyes at a higher level, is as yet unaware of the boards and stays on the same trajectory. Their blades click together and she, the lighter one, goes down. Gem showed a closeup, and the commentator (wish I'd tuned in sooner and got who was doing it today) elaborated on how dancers wouldn't have collided thanks to their short-tailed blades, while pairs skaters in the same situation using longer blades will run into each other.

They are NOT at full strength, and were overscored here
Sui/Han were underscored, not overscored. Their PCS should have been 2nd only to the Germans, as their quality of movement and movement as an actual pair is still the overall best in the field. Their speed is lower now and the mistake on the jump detracts from the overall performance, but it was still a better performance than everyone else.

They should have won this SP if she simply did her 3Toe cleanly.
