Kagiyama was superb. Solid jumps plus 100% into the spirit of the music.

Not Malinin's day in terms of quality of jumps. With only three jumping passes in the SP, he can't count on overwhelming the competition by sheer number of quads. Judging was perfectly fair and appropriate.

Gogoliev is the new national hero. Canada is not only in the finals, they even can hope for a medal.

They are counting on ilia. Scott not sure how happened.
Anyone paying attention knew too much on jumps not on quality of jumps
Yuma has and he is reigning which helps. They know Yuma quality and style. Ilia has to prove at olympics. Yuma doesn't
Yuma looked like he was enjoying himself. Ilia’s performance felt like a chore. But I knew something was up by the look on his face when he left the ice after warmup.

We’ve seen this before though when they make someone the face of the Olympics. The pressure must be unbelievable, even for someone as confident as him.

But this was no Nathan Chen type meltdown. He didn’t fall, he was just flawed. Unfortunately it affected his connection to the audience and the choreography.

That was honestly the best men’s competition of the season. I know a lot of fans see the team event as low pressure, but it isn’t for countries that are in medal contention. There’s a big difference between competing with yourself and competing with teammates. No one wants to feel like they’ve let others down. That’s why some of the competitors were unusually nervous today. I think Ilia will be more relaxed in the individual.
I actually think it's interesting seeing skaters who are unflappable like Ilya and Alysa nervous. I think that shows that the team event is important to them. It's hard to skate perfectly when others are relying on you. Good job from Yuma here! He rose to the pressure.

Now we're going to have a pity party for Ilia? He's just a kid? Bad sportsmanship. Snap out of it. You win some, you lose some.

I'm not sure if Ilia has first time Olympic nerves or what but he needs to do a lot better in the fs and he prob has to do the fs now. More importantly, he needs to be nearly perfect in his individual events.

That was a fine skate from Yuma.

But I think with the dance substitution they've made, their chances just went down. Marjorie and Zack will be beaten by america, italy, and possibly georgia, correct? Have they beat in the Georgians this year?
I don't think so, they haven't compete against each other this season but last season they were always above them. Also, they won medals at both GP while Georgian didn't. I believe they have higher ceiling atm.

Well, as I wrote earlier: hurrah for Stephen and Yuma. Steven skated well, and it's much more difficult to skate at the beginning. But, he did what he had to do, and more. Really good. And Yuma? That was one great skate, from beginning to end. What a joy to watch, the musicality of it. His own joy.... yes rightfully a very high score for him here. So glad it's seen in the results.

Hello, everyone. I have really enjoyed reading your comments for the past couple of years although it took a while to figure out cacti and other forum references. But seeing Yuma's incredible skate prompted me to register finally. I was smiling and laughing and jumping around and clapped wildly and just wanted to join with all of you!

Nope about right. I would have higher like alysa
No way. You're telling me that he has better skating skills than kevin? Or Cha from korea? Please.... he was very ragged throughout, and his basic blades on ice skill in terms of speed and glide and effortlessness is not close to yuma. I'm glad to see that there was over half a point difference in their skating skills marks, but is that really all it's worth? I could see justification for Ilia getting one or two points lower in PCs, maybe a 42 or 43.

He ALWAYS had to do the FS for US to win gold. It was very obtuse of them to think otherwise.

They don’t have a second same or even close calibre of men.

I want to hug Ilia Malinin He didn’t deserve that low of a score
I thought behind Gogalev. Failed on 3/3 of his jump elements. Tech panel missed the underrotation on the 4F, should have punished the overrotated 3A more as well.

But let's do his some justice, normally he is faster than he was today and has better drive, I guess Olympics are so huge that his nerver reminded him they exist.
