It’s like asking a team to take silver cause someone isn’t a team player.

Were you watching the same skating event?

Yuma regularly scores in this range. It wasn’t even his PB.

Also Stephen scored over 90 earlier this year at nebelhorn I think and like 89 at a GP.
Yes the scores remark.
Nothing on how they did complain about not ability of beating him with his tech content.

The way he left the ice mugging for the cameras and mouthing USA, it seemed like he believed he was easily going to go in the lead, which is bizarre that he thought his errors would beat Yuma’s 108 and then he shook his head no at the scores. An argument could easily be made that Ilia was over scored, so no need to show disrespect at the scores.
Yes. But disrespect is shown when they dont get it.

Now they did and ilia didn't. Now its quiet and defending why ilia deserved the score.
A point could be.made he should be Yuma despite the carrot.
Why jumps faster, harder, difficult choreo that no one gets . It seem none.
but it equates to speed , music timing, challenges thought and normal way of interpretation, .
How ilia landed is how Yuma did on 2 of 3 jumps.
.curious.
It done fantastic competition. Men out of this world. Will make 3rd team day interesting

I noticed Ilia’s UR on the 4Lutz in real time right away. I think going right after Yuma’s massive score put more pressure on Ilia. He remarked in the press conference after that he didn’t expect to win the SP here and that he is intentionally trying to pace himself since he is skating 4 Olympic programs in the span of 6 days. I fully expect him to come out in the Team FS and be royally pissed off and deliver a redemptive free skate à la the Grand Prix Final in December to win the FS. I think he can win with 4 quads given that his main competitor is Shun Sato, but it will be interesting to see if he goes for his full arsenal of 7 quads.
What are you seeing that makes you believe it is UR? Initially I assumed it was, since it's the Olympics and you'd obviously expect scoring to be super accurate, but I'm not seeing it.

Hurra for Kevin and his performance! :ghug: :wave2: The program does feel disjoint though, it doesn't help that the first part has a rather "sedated" music plus concentrates all the jumps; you could feel the tension in Kevin and how concentrated he was on not botching those jumps. But once he left all that behind, he freed himself and the second part / ending was truly amazing.

Even with the more tense first part, he should not have been given less PCS than Illia, but that's beating a dead horse. Too bad France didn't qualified for the FS, I would have loved to see his Bolero program (assuming he would have done both segments, which is not a given), but it's ok if he can get some extra rest and carry positive emotions into the individual event.

Gogolev was quite impressive, huge score and much improvement compared to Canadian Nats in a very short time. Nice performances as well from Yuma and Cha.

Overall, it was a good event, with decent skates from everyone and quite an unexpected result at the end.

Sometimes I wonder if not baiting to get a certain. Reaction or play to people emotions that are already emotionally charged or affected .

Yuma's just better overall, except having less types of quads in his arsenal, so the only way to beat a flawless Yuma is with more quads or a 4A. IIia's movements on ice are okay for a high level skater, but they aren't great to the point it would give him an edge. I don't think there is anything wrong with concentrating on jumps early on and bringing the other skills up to the same level when he has the energy to do so.
I beg to differ. His SP here showed to anyone watching how poor his overall skating is when compared to top level. His movements on the ice are not ok, they are seriously lacking in grace, lightness and beauty. And I do not think improving it is the matter of energy but missing skills and sorry to say that, talent. Not everything can be taught and not everyone will be great. He obviously worked on it already and did improve somewhat but I do not think he has it in him to become a truly awesome well-rounder. Without his jumps, he's just mediocre mid-level skater, and his PCS should reflect it. That he is above skaters like Jun in PCS is scandalous. He should be well below Jun in PCSs and to me he should have been placed overall below Gogo yesterday.

I don't believe Malinin was not expecting to win here and was going at 50% like he claimed. I think this is all PR talking and damage control. He obviously thought he was able to win without 4A and played it safe. Not 50% but safe, no risk taken. It did not work out anyway. Still, he was visibly shocked when he saw his score and he did not see it coming at all.
With pairs most probably zeroing what ID won for US today, singles will have to play it out between themselves tomorrow which means US either gives in or sends Ilia out to battle. Amber will be under huge pressure. We'll see what happens. But it started to be interesting.

If his coach who is his dad lets him do 7 quads he should be fired immediately for allowing such a foolhardy thing two days before the individual event. 4 or 5 quads should do the trick with everything else clean too.

He interviewed like a socially awkward teenage boy who didn't know how to answer questions. I think some PR coaching is needed for the future!
During the Nebelhorn Trophy, I once saw Roman Sadovsky in front of the ice rink. Surrounded by a ring of female fans, laughing, he was chatting animatedly with them. The next day, I saw Stephan. He was clearly waiting for someone-and standing alone. But when I congratulated him, he thanked me with a pleasant smile. He seems very nice, but he's definitely not as extroverted as Roman.

I think she meant that she doesn't seek out music because she's heard skaters use it, not that she doesn't listen during the skate.
-- yes, I jumped to thinking she mutes some performances because of not reading carefully enough. Thanks for clarifying.
