I am not famous or anything but once I went to the grocery store and some dude recognized me from a concert I had just done. It was a very nice and polite interaction but it freaked me out. It's not cool. Really not cool. So I cannot imagine how awful it must be when the comments are negative. I also personally don't talk to skaters at competitions because I don't want to get in their way (I know a lot of fans are nice and like to talk to them and that skaters appreciate it... but because of my own awareness about being recognized I just don't. I stay out of it). I even have never told Patrick how much I love his skating and I have him right in front of me :)

So skaters, stay out of social media. Please... For every 1 nice post, there are 1000 nasty ones. Not worth it.

So very very glad there was no such thing as social media when I was competing. I'd get recognized in the vicinity of the arena, but people were always polite and complimentary. They might ask for an autograph by our picture in the printed program, but that was it.

that's the issue with social media. People hide behind their computer to troll. In person, I doubt they'd say the same thing to the athletes. They wouldn't dare.

Just like I wouldn't dare being so blunt about Skate Canada like I have been on the Canadian thread :) If I had Michael Slipchuk right in front of me of me, I wouldn't say anything :)

i predict there's going to be a lot of movement with the FS. the scores are so tight even between Alysa's 3rd and Amber's 13th, only 9 points. loved to see so much great skating! rooting for Kaori to take it all, Amber to skate mad and Alysa on the podium.

Yes, but Petrosian skated way, way ahead of them. The judge's 8 marks on both Ami and Kaori are the same or higher than the other judges on every element and PCSs. His marks for Petrosyan are also in the basket for all elements and PCS (except composition mark). American judge clearly falls out of the basket on all 3 components and some TES. Lowballing is stronger and evident. The boost is well within reasonable judgment. Final placements are balanced.

Heh, my predictions are okay but not good enough to worry about placement, so I am not anxious about it. But I want the Olympics to be over already. It's just far too long, way longer than any normal competition to wait for results. I'll be happy once women get their medals and we are done.

Her placement is a bigger obstacle than her score. She’s not going to get great PCS with two full groups of top women skating after her. The tech panel is often harder on earlier groups as well.
 
If Amber lands her two 3A and hold together till her final pose, she will get a huge PCSs boost even in group 3, since she has rep and fed. The rest will depend on all the other skaters. It's not over until the fat lady sings. The best of the skaters don't give up. Not after they hosed off the short, not after they crushed on the first jump, not after missing a podium by half a point, not after not making a free in a big competition. Why fans give up faster than the athletes with actual stakes, I can never fathom.
