2026 World Figure Skating Championships | Women's Short Program

Gubanova had very good jumps today & more speed than she often gets but only received lvl2 on steps, this might even cost her a couple of places in the SP.

Watching Gubanova's tech score is making me really wonder
how Pinzarrone got such a high Tech

Just spin level difference?
Spin levels and GOE, Nina got 12+ points for her spins while Anastasiia got 10-11 points. In the SP, good spins are sometimes worth as much as or more than a jump combo and Nina is one of the best spinners in this event.

"Gu-ban!"

I will never stop thinking of that video every time I see Nastya. (Wish I could find it again).

Anyway, fast forward a decade or so, and I just love her programmes this season.

For her SP, Anastasiia GUBANOVA (GEO) is skating to Indian music, and wearing a red dress that fits the theme.

I know I am biased because I love Indian programmes, but that was absolutely brilliant!!!

And she knows it was!

Ah, Mark just told us the Georgian lady's name. Didn't make out what it was, though. I like the way she has her hair done.

Nastya goes into 2nd position.

How about Yuna Aoki? I think she's going to continue next season🤞 I love Saki Miyake too.

I am a big Rino Matsuike stan but it is a bit heartbreaking seeing her struggle with jumps and spins, seems like she never fully recovered from injuries & illness in the past.

In juniors, I love Mayuko Oka (as per my avatar) and the upcoming junior Karin Miyazaki.

Sorry for :ot:
I cannot understand myself on this point but I'm not that on board with Aoki Yuna, she's soft and lovely yet I just do not enjoy her artistry (which is objectively strong), my feelings towards her is something similar to what I feel towards Isabeau Levito (minus the jumps being ugly). Miyake Saki, to me, is a huge jumper with soft knees and solid basics, but nothing else. Matsuike Rino has such strong skating skills and she's cute but that doesn't tip my scale enough, Oka Mayuko got very good programs this season and I particularly enjoyed her SP but I don't feel much connection to her as a skater, and Miyazaki Karin (who I have watched during JNats season) is, again to me, another Kinoshita girl with all the Kinoshita characteristics, which will deservedly get her points but not my heart. Come to think about it that's what I felt for Chiba Mone during her junior year also, another Kinoshita girl with very strong skating skills.

I wish someone could rewire my brain so that I can love the Japanese women because I'll be much more happier watching FS that way, but until that happens I'm just gonna drink my rice liquor...

Apologies for the long :ot:

Isabeau is here to fight with her lutz-loop combo! It wasn't super clean, it will get looked at on both edge and rotation and didn't get great GOE, but it does represent a significant BV boost for her. The rest of the program was as pristine as normal, she has such good blade and body control, although the steps looked a bit smaller on the patterning than normal. She's another skater whole earns a lot of points on her spins, she has amazing flexibility and centering on those elements. She did lose a few points on her edge warning and levels, though, which will be costly.
