Info 2026 World Figure Skating Championships

I’m still somewhat expecting withdrawals in the few weeks to come but honestly, I’m not sure we will see many. The world’s website says a bunch of top entries are confirmed including Chock and Bates and Sakamoto. I’m not sure if confirmed means the countries just put them on the list temporarily or if they’re actually going to compete. So far the worlds roster is like 95% of Olympics

I was expecting Chock and Bates to sit out on this one... yet, they are still entered. The other w/d were expected too. I am surprised that Piper and Paul are also entered but delighted about it.

Riku-Ryu : considering the health issues, I am not sure they will be back. She's very young still but he isn't and he has been around for many years. It's also hard in your mid-thirties to sign up for another cycle... (same with Max) so I am always worried when I see some new posts in the retirement thread...

I am glad R and R are sitting out this worlds for their sake....love them....
(Alysa was and is on NBC today. First hour and third hour coming up. She alluded to future music and NBC reports her skating music has "Blown up" 250 percent on the charts. What ever that means, it sounds good.
Edit: watched the third hour segment with AL, They made her an OGM out of Lucky Charms LOL! They read her a segment of the letter she supposedly wrote from her 13 year old self to her future self. AL did not call it a fake but said she had no recollection of writing the letter.

I'm also delighted that we'll get to see "Starry Night" one more time!

the danger with all the media attention is lack of training and focus. I hope she is pacing herself

As a Piper & Paul fan, I am also a bit surprised that they are going to the Worlds, but they confirmed it themselves on Friday night in an interview at a hockey game on Sportsnet. P2 had a great Olympic moment a few weeks ago, so some people assumed that would be their last skate. It may be difficult for them to repeat as World Silver Medalists again, but I guess they are still motivated to compete one more time.

I am also surprised that Chock & Bates seem to be going to Worlds since it may be difficult for them to repeat as World Champions again if F/B & C are going to be there, but maybe Madison & Evan want one more shot at it, too.

Prize money may also be a factor. Both teams didn't do 4cc so doing worlds may help balancing the budget. Also, it's so close that they are super fit. It's interesting as some years, medalists who are planning to retire just end it at the Olympics and some other years, they just finish up the season. I was thinking Kaori would not go to Worlds, yet she's signed up. The more the merrier :)

But no one has to sign up for another cycle. They can take it year by year. The options aren’t “skate 4 more years or quit”

yes. Piper and Paul (and maybe even Chock and Bates) took it year by year after 2022.. and here we are :). I suspect that RR and Deanna and Max could take it year by year.

A lot of teams aim for the Olympics for sure and plan for a cycle... but some do not.

Look there was a very good team in Canada Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch. After 2014, they split. The reason was that Kirsten was aiming not only for 2018 but also for 2022. Dylan was not willing to go till 2022. We got Lubov and Dylan which were spectacular but her jumps were weak and they never ranked high enough... and while Kirsten and Michael were good, they were never as good as what we used to call MTM.... (with Michael, they were MTM2.0)

So Olympic cycles are a documented thing ;). Lia and Trennt for instance will have to talk about it. She's only 22 or 23 I think and he is close to 30. Ellie and Danny will obviously have to talk things through as well.

The thing is that going one season at a time is tough for the one who is younger and wants to keep going for longer because if their partner retires midway a quad cycle, then they are stuck with nothing left. Switching partners is MUCH more logical at the beginning of the quad.
I know... nobody wants to hear this but people will retire and new teams will be made. Minerva is a great example of that.

I thought during the summer of lore on the runthrough podcast, Kirsten said the reason they split was they were told about a fake rule change and she was treated badly by coaching team.

For other people I am sure that is true. She isnt other people. She really doesnt care. Kaori cared that perhaps one mistake cost her the gold. As AL said on the Today show, she couldnt care in the least if she messed up. It is being in the moment that counts. I will hold my politics of course but who among us can judge her after what her family has been through during the last Olys? The fear? To some, she seems goofy. I admire the family for what they have had to live through. Of course, there is financial gain....the $200,000 donated to each member of team USA at the Olys...and Lord knows what NBC is paying her for 2 segments on the Today show this morning...but even if she doesnt do as well as expected at Worlds...in her mind....so what? She has two OGMs hanging around her neck. And I think there is a pretty good chance we will get 3 spots for next worlds. The main thing is, She is happy. She loved the mural NBC showed her someone did.

ITA. So lets say Kaori suddenly feels like she really wants to do this one piece of music...and still compete but not feel the pressure...that is fine with me. Come on back for a year. Or when someone is driven, like Yuna was driven to come back to skating at Worlds in 2013, and does a program that leave announcers speachless.....Fine with me.

Never heard that. Care to elaborate?
I just checked it was Pairs lore part 3 on the runthrough podcast around an hour and 3 minutes on why she broke the partnership up. I didn't watch skating in 2014 when this happened but I remember feeling sad this was a reason a team split.

Just looked at the ice dance entries. I hope some of the top teams sit it out, the logjam at the top is getting boring. Not to mention the sourpuss attitudes and entitlement from certain people.

I think it is a way of saying good bye for awhile. I assume the announcement of their pregnancy is a hoax, but they may be trying to have a child.
