+5 / -5 GOE: All others 'historical'

Where are all the real proper fans screaming that world records don't actually exist in figure skating? I would've thought they'd have barged in there already

Edit : Welp the time it took me to redact that comment was enough. My bad

it is odd for many, I admit, but in my opinion, skating is not to be put on the same level as swimming or track.... in those sports, records are absolute... in skating we have all sorts of different kinds of records, most to do with first skaters or pairs to have achieve such and such quad... etc.. they are qualitative records....

also, that way, they can decide, at their will to remove a jumping pass in ladies for instance, or a throw in pairs... or tweak SOC and GOE or factor in PCS... and that's what they are doing already.... it keeping their right to modify rules all the time ;)
I think qualitative records are more accurate than quantitative records in figure skating. Qualitative records are earned, quantitative records are given.

Well, depends. Was the first quad (x) landed fully-rotated? It certainly gets ratified by the tech panel in terms of "excitement" and because standards on rotation are still sketchy, and there's the issue of whether landing it cleanly is more important than simply landing one with not the best quality (positive vs negative GOE), but yeah.

Best to forget about records in FS and just enjoy

Well, yeah. That's the problem with judging sports:laugh:

I'dve thought tars would be happier about Eunsoo Lim being a WR holder
Plus Anya Shcherbakova is starting JGP in Bratislava in a week! :)
I actually didn't think about it, just got a bit nostalgic about all the records we've been excited about about for past quads. New era, new heroes I guess! :cheer2:

All I can think of: Please, Anna, go get that double record next week! 1st one to land quad lutz and a record as well for the score!! You can do it! :cheer:

No, seriously, I think it actually makes sense. The systems are just too different to compare and it‘s not like the records aren‘t kept. Trusova, Zagitova, Medvedeva will be reminded forever just like the greatest greats like Yuna, Mao, Carolina and all the others in the past. :)

I’d also add that shrinking the duration of the men’s and pairs free programs really should also rule out direct comparison. It’s silly to compare a TES based on seven jumping passes with a TES based on eight.

yeah i forgot about the 7 jumping passes! this makes complete sense

Good call.

But we won't be yo-yoing that much. Lombardia overscores something awful, so I expect those will hold for quite a bit.

I wonder if each new event will try to score higher than the last in order to say some new records were broken there...

The scoring will be savage. My bet is that Shoma Uno and Kaori Sakamoto will be the new record holders.

Going above Lombardia would be something, gosh but the really naughty part of me wouldn't mind for the sheer chaos
(I'm joking before someone takes me seriously)
