I love Akiko's skating -- it transcends the technical details and point-counting that most other programs/skaters seem to be obsessed with these days. Akiko shows that you can still have excellent artistic performances under the ISU system. You just have to be very skilled/talented, supported by great coaching/choreography, and be committed to the performance. It's not as though back in the 6.0 when the technical demands were much lower/less well defined, that competitive skaters were churning out one artistic performance after another!
