Alena Kostornaia

That's great! I'm definitely looking forwards to seeing her among seniors! Like I said, she already has the components to be a senior, imho. If you compare her to Trusova (whose athletic prowess I'm absolutely in awe of, btw, no shade!) performance wise, they already look like one of them is a junior and one a senior. Alena really has an innate talent.

Exactly. Trusova acts her age in her skating. Which isn‘t a bad thing, she‘s only 13 and she has time and enough to grow and mature. What Alena has is - like you said - an innate talent. It‘s not something you can learn, it‘s something you either have or don‘t. Which makes her special. Besides the fact that - while not as athletically powerful as Trusova - her jumps are nothing to laugh at either. She may not have a quad but she has a LutzLoop combo, which currently only one eligible senior competitor is able to do. Not to mention her 3A. I can only say it time and again, it‘s a real shame she needs to wait another year. She‘s better off in senior skating.

I believe that the winners and prize-winners of the JWC should have the right to move to the senior ones regardless of their age.

So, apparently, age limit was voted off so Alena will definitely get to perform in the 2019/20 season!🙌🏻
I was in favor for a change to, at least, 16, but i'm happy for Alena, and for her mostly, because is the girl with the more senior-level skating among the juniors.

I actually wanted it to be 16, too (not 17, that‘s too much) but I‘m trying to see the positive. As a big Zhenya fan I‘d have loved to keep Trusova and co. in juniors for another year or two but now that‘s it decided like this... it‘s okay. We can‘t change it anyway. So let‘s focus on the good things. Which is: Alena Kostornaya a senior in 2019!

What is the minimum age? Only 1 more year of juniors for Alena?

To be elegible for seniors, one must complete 15 years before the first of July. For example: to compete Seniors in the 2018/19 season, you must conoleye 15 before the end of this month.

Yes. For her but also for Trusova, Scherbakova, Tarakanova and so on. Almost all the best russian ladies that we'll see next season on juniors, besides Kanysheva, will become senior eligible in 2019/2020.

Wow Alina and Zhenya will have many great girls nipping at their heels in 1 year.

I think the Nationals are already going to be a bloodbath this year
This year nationals will be like a great stress test, without the same heavy rewards (slots) for everyone. Is better to gain reputation, like it was for Alena last year, but is not her most important competition.

I was happy for her result on the past senior nationals, but way more afraid on seeing her fall on the SP of the junior nationals... :drama: :hopelessness:

...and then she win the FS :yes2:

Yes, I totally remember that, she scored about 68 points. I was taken aback by the fall, she rarely makes a mistake (besides lvl 3 step sequences). But than came the FP and everything went back to normal

Yes, the propose got rejected.

Definitely.

The true bloodbath is yet to come. Let's hope that Alena will conquer that with her grace... and a bunch of 3A+5GOE cannons :dev2:

The age proposal failed? Lol how greatis that?

Lol how greatis that?
A lot for the actual junior ladies in waiting, not for the others ladies

Personally, i see that as a difficult question, and i was trying to let my cheering toward Alena on juniors out of that and see the change as a structural modification, for leave some girls still less affected by puberty fight more time between juniors, because this past years i have see most of them as junior skaters, in their senior debut, from Julia to Alina and her tutu. All with their special abilities, but not senior full package for a gold.
I always try to care less and less of results and PCS discussion on skating, but still...

Alena is one of a kind on the maturity is able to show on ice, even if is so tiny out of it. Like a russian's reply to Satoko, but better, at least for me, if compared at the same age.
I really hope she succeed to balance that with a great tech content, because the fight is really scary in Russia and the voting system flaws tend to be way more affected by the jumps than anything else.

And if anything goes wrong, there is always pairs for tiny ladies. Aljona's career is not something bad to wish.

RusFed may not want beating senior, and may not be allowed Sasha, Alena, Anna the Russian championship senior.

I doubt they would not allow Alyona to participate as she participated last year already. Sasha and the rest, that is the question.

Why was she allowed last year? Is it because she was already 14? Will they make it 15 for this year or just potentially deflate/inflate the girls as they choose? Like Alena fell in her SP but still got the highest score which I imagine was because they wanted her for the Olympics.

Alena has already take a medal there, so let see about that.

If we go back some years, at 2009 for example, Adelina and Liza got gold and silver at nationals, while not be senior eligible.
A way different context than now, but still.

Did you have some recent example of the russian fed that has not allowed someone to skate at national for not overshadow the seniors ?

Both Evgenia and Elena have also take a national bronze before coming to seniors.

Why was she allowed last year? Is it because she was already 14?

Yes, the age limit for the nationals is lower. Anyway, what the juniors do in there don't matter for the battle for senior Euro and Worlds spots.

Juniors have still their junior nationals for let the fed decide who goes to junior worlds.
