Alena Kostornaia

Of course he will work with her. And probably regain confidence in her. But inspiration to create a program is something else, plus she didn't like the short program he had choreographed for her in May/June.
Yeah I understand. Things won't be exactly the same as before. It would take a little longer for Danill to achieve Eteri's overall level. I would say Aliona's motivation and determination is the most important.

It might not be that bad if we think it this way: Eteri herself would do the programs if Danill is not inspired/motivated enough?

Yes, Eteri Tutberidze is co-choreograph for the team, just I don't know if she has already made a choreo from scratch to the end lately, I don't know how they share the work.
So, Daniil Gleichengauz may well in (probably short) time feel there was a misunderstanding when they parted, but still not feel "like before" about the choreography part and for instance, may fear she won't like what he's thinking about for her and won't tell it by fear of re-breaking things and it may hinder him, etc. On the other hand it may be a thrust to his inspiration, who knows. Eager to prove her he's the best, in some way.

I feel like if Aliona wanted to leave after training there for a year or two, then it wouldn’t be as big of a mess as it is now. Maybe something in the contract mentioned that she had to stay for a certain amount of time to enjoy all the expenses Plush was paying for and if she wants to leave before that time period expires, then she has to pay it back. I know Plush and Yana are very rich but still money is money and they did invest a lot on Aliona (which is why many see her as more of a business venture for AOP instead of them treating her like the athlete she is).

This whole thing is a mess. I honestly wish Aliona would train somewhere else (or anywhere else lol) but it is her decision and I’m going to support her for it and hope it all goes well!

I wonder what this photo means now...

She's so skinny

Those translations are interesting. I know she’s disappointed by the 6th place finish, but she’s been injured/ill basically the whole year on top of getting used to a new training environment. Also they are bringing back the old Billie free for her to skate to?! Ugh😭
Agreed. I'm really nervous about making the 3A part of the conditions of her trial period, given that we know she's injured and recovering from COVID (she needs to rest!!). She shouldn't need to prove anything -- she's the reigning European champion :(

While I knew she was probably not going to keep the other programs, it's a bit upsetting that they're giving her a THIRD free program this season, especially now that there's a Lovely SP already... Also photos seem to show she's training among young kids again, which seems like something they're doing just to punish her. https://twitter.com/_mariaaaa18/status/1368264578992398336/photo/1 :(:(

Alena: When I was training during this season in the other school, I realized that I couldn't force myself to do certain things. So I could understand that if I was training with Eteri Georgievna, I would be able to do everything that was needed and even more.

(Showing her first training after her return, and background commentary about how difficult it was for her.)

Alena: Even during the warm-up, I was skating and felt like dying. For a long time I didn't have an intense warm-up like that. During the entire warm-up my pulse was 198 bpm, and I was thinking that if I survive this warm-up I'll survive everything else.

(Commentary about her Russian Cup Final performance.)

Alena: 6th place at Russian Cup Final isn't just a pity, it's... it gives you an understanding that it wasn't just one thing that went wrong, it means that everything in your life went wrong, and that needs to change. So you need to go and apologize, drop your ego and ask for forgiveness.

(Commentary about how she was accepted for a probation period until the end of this season.)

Eteri: She needs to fully commit to this process, without any weekends/holidays, without complaining about other people on ice, this should be decided by us. And she should get her 3A back.

(Commentary about the time when Alena said she's smiling more after she had transferred to AoP.)

Alena: I did smile more, but not in the right place. You can smile on the podium, and then cry somewhere in the corner after a training session, or you can smile anywhere but on the podium, because you just didn't get there.

(Apparently Eteri's daughter asked her to give Aliona a chance.)

Eteri: My daughter told me: "Mom, you should give her a chance!". I don't want to live with this thought that I could've given a chance and didn't. Then the person remains with this unfulfilled hope for the rest of their life, thinking that exactly then they could've done something, but weren't given the chance.
ess without any additional days off, without conditions that someone is interfering on the ice or a lot of people. Well, probably, we should define it anyway. And jump the triple axel.

The figure skating world has been discussing a possible comeback for Kostornaya for four days. The media reprint one after another insiders and rumors. After all, hardly anyone could even assume that Alena would knock on the doors of "Khrustalny" again. It was not even the loudest exit, but the escape from the group. During the training camp in Novogorsk. When the transfer window had already closed, when new programs were delivered, when she refused to go on the ice with some of the skaters.

This was followed by high-profile interviews about the new life and the reasons for the transition: "Maybe I should have moved, because now I smile more often?"

Alena Kostornaya: I may have begun to smile more, but not where it is necessary. You can smile on the pedestal, and cry somewhere in the corner and somewhere after training; or you can smile everywhere, except for the pedestal, because you just didn't get there.

Perhaps the most important question discussed by journalists and experts is why this transition is needed by Eteri Tutberidze herself? It turns out that her daughter Diana played an important role in this story.

Eteri Tutberidze: Diana was her lawyer. The daughter said: "Mom, you must give a chance." It seems to me that God ordered to give a chance after all. I do not want to keep this thought in my head, that I could give an opportunity; then the person remains, you know, with such unfulfilled hope. For the rest of my life. That is, it seems to you that you could have done something, but you were not given the opportunity.

In the Tutberidze group, Kostornaya became the European champion and the winner of the Grand Prix finals. Learned the triple axel that we admired all last season and set two estimated world records.

It seemed that in the new season the vampire Kostornaya would bite her rivals even more. But the triple axel could not be restored, then there were diseases and injuries. Evgeni Plushenko believes that he and Alena did not have enough time: "I have no doubts about her future ... we let go with a clear conscience."

Perhaps viewers will still see Alena on the ice this season. And it's not just that she is the first substitute for the World Cup. The coaches hinted that there is a chance that on the show of Eteri Tutberidze Kostornaya will show the same free program with Billie Eilish, fragments of which were laid out during the production.

Will they put programs together for the Olympic season? We will find out two months after the probationary period. In the meantime, Alena has very specific goals.

Alena Kostornaya: I have to prove that I am worthy to skate in this group and I am worthy of their attention.

Perhaps skating in the show with the Billie Eilish free is simply that. It is the end of the season, they aren’t going to make a new program for her to perform in show in a month and this is something she already knows. Perhaps Daniil wants to see it come together too, he does baby he choreography he may be interested in seeing how it turned out after all.

It had to be hard for this amazing skater to switch coaches and then have so many things go wrong. She had a nearly perfect debut season last year and then alyona had a very rough season this year. It was nobody's fault she got Corona virus not hers not Plushies. I just think she wanted to go back to a place where she had great success and felt safe. PA tried hard. It just didn't happen mainly because of health circumstances.

I'm happy that her coaching situation is settled for now but I still have a lot of worries. It was excepted that Eteri was going to keep her on a tight leash - which could be good for Aliona - but it sounds to me she is in an extremely vulnerable position. She will basically have to do whatever they tell her (like skate through injuries) and they can even kick her out if they like, anytime. If that happens, her dreams for next season are more than likely over.

On the other hand, her goal is to make the Olympics and win, and that takes incredible commitment - I can't even imagine how much - and this is her only chance now. I hope everything will be alright :pray::pray:

Good heavens I don't know what to say.

I think I will need to read this again.

It sounds like Diana was the key to her mom taking Aliona back.

Aliona does seem to do better under pressure and gets the best results when there’s weight on her shoulders. She got the 3A because of it. When her warmups go well I’m more concerned than when she’s at the boards crying because of falls. Part of the problem this season I think is that Sasha is very self motivated and Plushenko expects that initiative. But Aliona herself admitted she has trouble working hard without a push, that she never worked hard until moving to Eteri’s group. And there were low expectations to begin with— the pandemic, her illness and injuries— it was excuse after excuse. And those excuses were of course fair and relevant, especially for a new coaching team. But that gave Aliona an “out” so to speak. Now, that mentality isn’t exactly healthy long term, but I think during this trial period it will be absolutely necessary. She says she has to prove herself. I think given the pressure on her now she will. It’s simply the situation where she’s best.

I know I said I‘m taking any Daniil program as long as her training situation is solved and I still mean that.

But I do feel a pang thinking of this new FS. It had so much potential... apparently Benoit Richaud helped with the music cuts.

Yeah, it seems she may have played some role in Eteri's thinking process.. ;) Anyway, all's well, hopefully this chance will pay off and we'll see results next season...
Aliona is not physically well so I hope she can somehow survive this probationary period. I sort of wish she would take 4 or 5 weeks off. Then come back stronger fitter and hungrier.
