Alena Kostornaia

Yes, I remember now that this day was also celebrated in the church of St. Louis in Moscow - by pure chance I saw this six years ago. An interesting coincidence. Perhaps these are some magical days at the end of August:).

And of course you are right - the origin of any person can be completely unexpected.
It's the French RC church in Moscow I believe?
It's chiefly that each of us have so many different ancestors if we go back enough in the past. Alyona maybe has one in Kastornoy on the paternal line but who knows on other lines. This being said, my original question was chiefly to know if her family name was bonfire, I would have liked it somehow but I really thank you for all the information you gave. On the reverse I'm happy to know Alexandra Trusova's doesn't mean coward.

What's Aliono's world standing?

Does she qualify for 2 Grand Prix events and a challenger or 2 next season? If yes then her career is not over if she leaves EG. The question I have is does AK want to put up with a 2 hour train ride to the rink and back home each way every day 6 days a week? Hmmm.

Why not go where the focus would be on her the most or second most? Red army and snow leopards? those Moscow academies may be closer to the where she lives too. I think if Aliona does not get her 3A back then she will get lost in the shuffle at TT. And she's much too good to be an after thought or something.

I also think that Alionas coach stating publicly that Aliona could still be practicing and training even with a cast on her arm and hand is an ominous sign. :( Whatever happens Aliona needs to continue to skate competitively. The sport needs her.

i'm not a rule expert, but I think it's not her standing but the fact that she did qualified for the GP final that give her a double assignement.
Next year will be very hard no matter what.
I'm very curious about the how rusfed will distribute the GP spots.
There are no super junior (like Valieva not that they're not strong) coming up, so the 3 top seeded girl that will never cross path would probably be Kami, Anna and Sasha.

Yes, the 6 qualified for GPF have 2 GP assignments guarranteed next year (no Challenger though) and the 6 next too but only if they meet minimum TES requirements (which all do nowadays I suppose).
Distribution doesn't rely only on RusFed. It depends also of results at Worlds.
The 3 first at Worlds can't skate in the same competitions. Gold chooses first (but it can be the Fed who chooses), then Silver then Bronze.
The same happens for the 3 next: the 4th chooses first, then the 5th then the 6th, and it can also be the Fed who chooses.
But it won't be so for Alyona because she's not to compete at Worlds, she was very clear about it.
So her assignments will be decided by draw, being that I think that in no GP trophy there can be more than 3 skaters representing the same country.
Normally I have the rules for 2021-2022 in a folder but I don't find them.
This is independent from the team she's skating in. Also, internationally she's been scored generously being Russian but never overscored. Her errors are called: frequent < on solo 3A and ! on 3Lz, a problem she managed to solve. Nothing to do with what has been seen with other skaters.
But she needs the right surroundings and I think she's now quite aware of what she needs and what she can get here or there. Clearly Rozanov alone was not enough to get her former level back, and she missed the emulation and company of other Eteri girls. I'm sure she'll do the best choices.
About skating with the cast, at Eteri Tutberidze's first suggestion I didn't take notice because when she's put out she often says nonsense (things which she doesn't really think but which somehow align with her mood of the moment) and I'm sure the girls know it, but there was a second occurrence? That was a bit worrying unless it was the same.

You are right next season will be very hard this season was very hard last season was very hard for Aliona. All of these hard seasons will toughen her up. Even though Aliona did not have a very good season before she got injured she had a good enough season where she earned her spots for next season. I don't want any nonsense from the Russian federation moving forward with this girl this girl she has earned the opportunity for next season. let's see what she does with it next season.

At least Aliona has 2 GPs for next season.. That is something for her to build on. I hope a couple challenger as well. I hope Aliona is great again. I think not having to deal with the massive stress of the olympic season will be beneficial to her.

we will see if someone will have a lack of motivation next year but she should really start with herself and her 3A.
Her ultra jump will come in time. First she needs to have a great SP with a great 2A then she can think about the 3A.

Even before that we need to hear reports that she's out on the ice training normally again. And she might as well keep these programs for next season.

Stumbled across this video of her New York, New York SP and thought I would bring it here - it focuses on Aliona's boots, which really has allowed me to appreciate how much she can do with her footwork.

I don't skate, many of the steps are a complete mystery to me, and I don't know how hard it is to do them, but I have to say that to my eyes, the way she starts the SP with a loop, pauses up on one toe pick, and then goes straight into a twizzle is pretty impressive. She also doesn't seem to use an awful lot of cross-overs to generate speed, except for the entry into, of all things, her split jump! She goes into her axel one-footed, lands and does her falling leaf, before going back to two-footed skating; on her lutz landing, she keeps the free leg off the ice and twizzles out of it, changes skating feet and does a flying camel spin. There's just so much going on!

As I said, I honestly don't know the degree of difficulty, skill or strength required to do this, and I am still working on being able to distinguish between brackets, rockers and counters, as well as knowing what is a mohawk and what is a choctaw, but this zoomed-in video of Aliona's footwork definitely gave me more appreciation of the bits of the skating that aren't jumps or spins, and how much complexity there is.

Edit: Uhhh, don't know why Kamila's Bolero is there; this post isn't supposed to be a comparison between two talented young skaters.

I don't know how you found it but incredible videos to say very unique. Loved it. Merci beaucoup.

any updates on whether AK is back training full force yet?

I hope, even this days, she looks positively to what will come.
I find it hard to watch the olympics.
I stricly stick to competitions avoiding any social feed from Beijing
Not that I don't like or want to ignore who's there (I like all 3*) but I will just miss this smiling face even more.

*Sasha is so uncompromised and stubbord in her approach you can only admire her, and the fact that she did not had a senior glory day yet makes me root for her
Anna is an adorable human being whit terrific inner strenght. I love her and I'm really happy she's close friend with Aliona. They complement each other with theyr individuality
Kamila is just the better skater I ever saw, and I think she has an interesting personality yet to emerge

Thats some face! And figure skater.

Sigh, I do not know why the Russian media has to bother our girl  but apparently they asked her to comment:
GoogleTranslate:
The 2020 European champion figure skater Alena Kostornaya told RIA Novosti that she was not aware of the situation with the dubious doping test of Kamila Valieva.

“No one contacted me, no one tells me anything. I am distant from this topic. I will say more: I don’t watch the Olympics. I only watched Mark (Kondratyuk) and that’s it. I don’t follow everything so as not to upset myself,” she said Kostornaya.
Aww, poor baby! 😢 I hope she's been able to distract herself from the disappointment of missing the games...

In happier news, a new photo of Aliona!

I hope she is doing okay even if she’s still disappointed. She’s not missing anything except the worst “Olympics” in history. Truthfully, I haven’t watched a single second of this shadooby show. Without Alena there, why even waste the time? Chances are low, but I’d love to see her at Worlds. I also hope to see her in Italy at the next watchable, legitimate Olympics. The forecasted rule change that raise the age limit is so blatantly scummy, but it’ll be to her advantage in the end.
