Alena Kostornaia

Kostornaya vs Trusova was like a lady vs a girl. One year difference...

Jump set is high for the girl, GOE are better for the lady.
Skating is everything in SP as the jump set difference cannot compensate.
The FP is another story.

holy cow, she was STUNNING! so deserving of that score!! is this the first time she has beaten sasha?

During JGP final in Nagoya last year Alyona received higher score for free program than Sasha, although in total score Sasha still won.

I would love for Alena to do a 3A but I somehow feel she won‘t go for it. She had a broken finger so I don‘t know whether she actually trained it all since her last JGP. Of course I‘d be more than happy and proud and excited but I don‘t want her to risk injuring herself before the JGPF. I have a feeling, however that if she will do a 3A this season, we’ll see it tomorrow. Testing it only at the final seems a bit risky to me.

She said in her askfm that she was training it without much success, but that was over a month ago. If she is going to try it this would be the time. As much as I would love to see it, I rather her stay injury free.

I wonder, has she ever tried quads? Alena's 3t is ridiculously high. If she were to rotate a bit faster I am sure she could make it all the way around.

I think she's said that she tried a quad, I don't remember which, but it didn't go well. I'd love to see her 3A, but only if she's confident enough in her ability to do it cleanly. I'd hate to see her get hurt again.

Sasha's 4T didn't work out at the beginning too. That's why she was focused on 4S the last season. and than. she was able to pull 4T out. :) After she worked on the high of her jumps during the season.
btw Alena's jumps have become higher since the last season. So i'm sure she is trying to preper her body for these jumps.

Pray and see. Come on Alenka, show us that beautiful 3a :cheer: (only if you are comfortable doing it and won't injure yourself)!
She needs to play for 2020 and Beyond she does not need a 3A now even if she finish in second place so what. The punishment Sasha and Anna are putting themselves through with Quads is unbelievable. Alena needdc to develop herself as the most beautiful skater in the world and go from there.

She’s a tried a 4T, so no wonder her 3T is so high! I did notice her jumps going a bit off-axis/crooked in the SP at Russian Cup but it didn’t seem to cause any problem with the landing. Maybe just because they are getting higher and bigger

It was an awkward camera angle but I must say I sorta liked it because it was great for viewing the rotations from. I'm not one who is desperate for her to include a 3A but the 2A in particular from that angle I can definitely see one there. It was over so quick and effortlessly and so high that she absolutely has more than enough room and time to fit that extra rotation in quiet easily I would say.

I remember her 2A from Linz, that was so high and at such a distance that I'm no doubt that sooner or later she will handle 3A.

I watched it live. I think she deserved 1st place. It was a clean and beautiful skate. Best we've seen all season. She deserves much more PCS points for her artistry and musicality..she leaves people speechless.

I agreed. She was perfect here.

Thank you for that video Alena Kostornaia was beautiful yet again with another golden performance. After her Flawless short program and Flawless long program it's unbelievable that she only took second place. She just needs to continue the perfect her programs and then add 3A in a year or two. Anna and Sasha skate great and are phenomenal but they may burn themselves out doing quads so young before puberty hits. Obviously we all wish them nothing but great health and success in their career but I think Alena would be very wise to just developer wonderful skating and then add tougher elements in a year or two after puberty. she is one of the most beautiful figure skaters I have ever seen. I found Sasha Cohen very beautiful and Alena Kostornaia is perhaps even more beautiful skater.

This was a very successful weekend for Alena. Russian Nationals is going to be absolutely crazy probably the best competition of the entire season.

Alena was amazing today! She was only second and didn‘t try 3A but honestly, I think it‘s smart and very mature to look at your body, ask yourself what you can do without risking too much and decide from there. Of course she wants to win and is insanely competitive but she also doesn‘t do things that could easily have bad consequences - like adding a 3A if it isn‘t totally stable. I‘d obviously love for her to have done it, she might have beaten Sasha with it but it‘s ”just“ juniors. I‘m sure that her eyes are on the senior level. She’ll probably only take 3rd place at the JGPF due to her lack of ultra-c elements like Sasha and Anna have. And as we’ve seen - quads even if with falls and pops - still beat a clean skate with just triples. But for me, it honestly doesn’t matter too much which place she takes because I have the honour to watch her skate and develop. Her skating is sublime and her jumps are too. I wonder what she‘ll show us in the future. For her, third or even second place might not be enough so she might try a 3A. Probably next year. I hope she‘ll have a great career with lots of wonderful performances and many medals to call her own. Davai, Alena!! :yahoo:
