Alena Kostornaia

I saw in the Russian ladies thread someone posted there is a rumor she is leaving Eteri? Has anyone heard anything about this? I really hope not especially after she just showed her full potential this weekend and looked satisfied with her performances. It makes me nervous!

Why would she do this, especially in the middle of the season... and for what other coach?

She seems like a very intelligent girl and this would completely ruin her building career. If somebody of the 3A wants to change her coach (I do not believe it) she surely will wait until the end of the season.

I completely agree with you it does not make sense to change and there aren’t any good coaching options anyway. That’s why I really hope this is just a rumor.

She showed real improvement and looked much more confident this weekend so I really hope it is not true because I believe the Eteri system works for her. It must be hard when your main competitors are garnering insurmountable technical scores due to the junior PCS deflation. I hope she can stick it out at least for her senior debut season as well (hopefully with a 3A in her arsenal).

I doubt it, I don't think her parents would let her tbh, not at junior level at least. They are not the typical highly ambitious skating parents and I don't see them uprooting their entire lives to chase medals and there is nobody else really in Moscow who can offer her the necessary training to get her where she wants to go. She also seems to be one of the only ones who clicks with Eteri on a personal level so I can't see her wanting to leave her for those reasons either. I think she will leave Eteri one day, the way she is developing physically and artistically isn't really suited to Eteri's coaching style in the long term, but for the foreseeable future she will most likely stay put.

What are you talking about? She's not the one Eteri has been coaching for many years and we saw in the past that it doesn't mean anything, anyway. They didn't seem to be very close after her medal performance at RusNats, for example. I hope she will stay in her current group as long as possible, of course, there isn't anything better available, but it sure must be hard for her to train with jumping phenoms like Sasha and Anna. Alenka is very ambitious, after all..

It seems that Alyona is the one who is not afraid of Eteri as maybe some other girls are. That's how it was probably meant. At RusNats it looked that Eteri said something to Alyona after the short with what Alyona didn't agree and showed it. But that does not mean they have some bad relationship, sometimes there comes respect to those who do not obey unconditionally. Remember Daniil's words :)

Relax, I said on a personal level not a professional level. Based on interviews where it's insinuated that their personalities click really well but also by the fact that Eteri keeps photos of only 4 of her skaters in her office (possibly 5, I can't tell if one is Polina or another one of Alina) and Alena is one of them.

Where do you know that from? I mean, I‘m not saying she doesn‘t as I have no idea whatsoever what Eteri keeps in her office. But hasn‘t Alena only been with Eteri for a bit more than a year or so? I thought it was Anna who was with her the longest, then Sasha joined and lastly Alena.

To me it seems like Alena is a very confident girl. She knows what she wants to do and I think she can stand up for herself to everybody - Eteri included. Basically everything flanker said. Remember Daniil‘s interview. :)

About Alena changing coaches... Not this season. Why would she do that just before JGPF? It‘s not even transfer time, I don‘t think she could leave even if she wanted to. Maybe next season, I can‘t say anything about that as this off-season should have told us that we really can‘t predict who leaves when and how and to whom. I know it isn‘t easy for Alena to train with Sasha and Anna but my personal feeling (which is nothing more than a feeling at all) is that she will stay at least for another season after this one. Then everything‘s open. With Alina, Sasha, Anna and Alena there will be so many top senior skaters in Eteri‘s group next year anyway. It remains to be seen what will happen.

I think Alena joined Eteri's group in 2015. I don't see her changing coaches because she is extremely dedicated and only talks about training more and more in her interviews. When questioned about Eteri's controversial methods she said something like "if you want to be good you have to train hard".
She trusts Eteri and gets along really well with the other coaches, there is no reason for her to leave.

At RusNats it looked that Eteri said something to Alyona after the short with what Alyona didn't agree and showed it.

According to Alenka, Eteri said something like "Don't relax." Which may have had, after all, better impact than if she was hugging her or something.. ;)

Her leaving as much possible as switching to pairs, that was the full rumor. She had been considering this move as was told if you believe.

Besides she does remember she was 18th of Moscow right before switching to Eteri in 2017

I just can't imagine Alena changing coaches right now, or moving to pairs, really. It would be such a mistake to upset the apple cart right now with the JGPF, Russian Nationals, and hopefully Junior Worlds coming up so soon. The Eteri method really seems to work for Alena and it changed her entire approach to skating in a positive way.

If she moves to pairs now she'd essentially be giving up her season, and she's said many times that her focus is training and trying to gain a reputation for consistency so that her transition to seniors goes smoothly. To me, this is not a girl who is going to give up any opportunity to compete at the highest level possible in juniors. She's said so herself that she wants to beat Sasha and believes that she can.

I’d never really thought she should go into pairs based on her stunning potential as a singles skater but I have to admit that I think she would take that sport over. Her grace, charm, and precision would take her straight to the top. The real question for me though...is there a Russian guy out there who could keep up? I hope she stays as a singles skater though. She’s massively entertaining and inspiring to watch perform.

I’m doing my best to ignore these rumors though

Do you remember where you found out that Eteri keeps photos of 4 skaters in her office?
I'd be interested to see the source.

I also would be interested to find this source as well as the source of the original rumor (leaving Eteri, switching to pairs).

I really hope the only true rumor is that Eteri keeps a photo of Alena in her office

People, the last two pages are pure speculations without anything that could entitle it. I know, people find it entertaining to unchain their fantasy, but please don't draw any conclusions from it that would serve as basis for another and another and before we know there will be "guaranteed" information "Alyona leaves Eteri" and everybody would believe it. We have seen it many times.

While Alena would do great in pairs once she got dropped on her head shea would give up pairs. ;) Alena is on a great path in singles and is already the most beautiful skater iin the world.

Any coach would be thrilled to have Alenka. If being with Eteri works for her and it does keep it that way. If Alena gets buried by the quad queens as Eteris #3 junior then leave, I am sure Buyanova would take her. ;) But I believe Alena Sasha and Anna are on equal ground. I also believe Eteri does not want to lose another great young skater. Zhenya leaving hurt Eteri deeply.

Please, I'm not in the mood for horror movies...
