Alena Kostornaia

Oh, she‘s in Vienna? That‘s safer then and I won‘t have to bubble wrap her in several layers... but maybe I still should... as I‘ve learned Alyona is a little devil and likes to get into trouble quite a lot. [emoji23]

This is what they both told in 2 different separated interviews. So Vienna, Austria is confirmed.

I enjoy Alena's skating and she has been a pleasant surprise for me this season with her effortless skating and musicality, who can make even lacklustre choreography shine with interpretation skills that are beyond her age. However, at this point in time, I think she may have outgrown her coaching team. When Ted asked Eteri about her plan for her students as they mature, she indicated her approach is about looking at what her skaters can do today so that they don't have any regrets tomorrow. Her team emphasizes increasing rotations on a less than solid foundation to get results now, rather than focusing on paving careers of duration. Perhaps Alena should look elsewhere before the very important upcoming transition year in seniors, especially if she wants to have some kind of a long term plan/outlook for her competitive future. If she wants to stay in Russia, I don't think Mishin would be a good fit but perhaps she can go to Chebotareva?

You can write to Alena in her instagram. I'm sure she will appreciate such wise thoughts.

Pretty Alena!

I hope she had fun with Dasha in Vienna!

BTW, it seems that Alena is friends with several of the other skaters. Sofia Samodurova was interviewed after Nationals, and she said that other than Liza Tuktamysheva, Alena is her closest skating friend! :agree:

Apparently when they get together, they can talk for hours and it's like a hurricane. She also said that they were watching the video of Alena's SP at Nationals together, and they were laughing when Alena stumbled on the step sequence. :)

I am really surprised, tbh, that they (both Trusova and Kostornaia) prefer to spend their holidays on ice rink of all places.. Well, maybe it's part of their intent to keep competitive form? Anyway I always thought that something you spent almost all your life is not what you want to do in your free time :confused2: It's hard to believe for me that there are indeed people who loves their work this much, I suppose :)

I noticed when watching some clips of the practice sessions at Russian Nats, that Alena tended to go to Sergei when she needed to talk to someone. Perhaps it’s better that she isn’t one of Eteti’s Favorites. Also, I agree that Eteri isn’t the right coach if a skater is looking to have a long career.

Don't pay attention to.... some people who hat... don't like Eteri very VERY much ...
Let them have some fantasies.... and dreams...... about who is and who is not Eteri's "Favorites" .... :sarcasm:

I do believe that Eteri has a longterm vision for Alena. Of course she knows that she has the best skating skills and I would say the best jump technique to survive puberty. That is why they don't push her as much as the others who will likely lose their quads and tricks once they grow and cannot rotate as fast as they do now.

Why would Alena K leave the coach who only needed 8 months to take her from 16th at JNats to 3rd at RusNats? :scratch2: Alena hasn't been on a losing streak recently either.

I still remember the last time this thread exploded when a poster on Russian ladies speculated that Alena would leave Eteri..

Oh I don’t believe either Alyona or Eteri will be dumb enough to just part ways now. Eteri and Danii can offer Alyona the good packaging and customized programme. Alyona is able to remain competitive with Sasha and Anna without 3A and quads with her all round solidity and justifiably stronger basics - there is no need to rush her into big elements now and she may be the very skater that Eteri can swoon of having stayed on top after becoming an adult.

If anything, it’s more likely that Alyona will leave the sport to train to open up people’s brains with perfect edge and blade control ;)

when i was a skater and had the opportunity to go public skating with friends or some random event came up where i had an opportunity to skate, i wanted to! not to work and train like in practice, maybe do a couple spins and jumps, mostly just for fun :) but when you love it you love it.

Looks like some of her fans met Alena today to give her some presents. What a wonderful idea, especially the doll with her Romeo and Juliet dress (the detail!!) and her gold medal from the JGPF. Just beautiful. :luv17:

I saw this on my Instagram feed this morning, and thought it was so kind and generous of her local fans to bring her presents. What a beautiful doll especially - I can't imagine a better keepsake of her gold medal win in Vancouver.
