Alena Kostornaia

And in Alena it was always. I passed through every gesture, deed, look. Especially in the look. There are no more such deep, charming and dangerous (and she is only 17!) eyes in the world figure skating. Let's be honest, in many ways it is for this that we - ordinary viewers - love her. And for this they are ready to peck, give just a reason.

This totally match the impression I had of her.
She's not attrative (yet) to a grown man (it's not like meeting Stepanova for example) but she manages to be fatal anyway,
I've said already that I never saw so much charm and charisma in the eyes of a teen.
She may be the tiniest thing in a room full of adults, and yet the room seems to spin around her without the need to perform any stunt or diva pose (and we know she can pull it off and get away with it)
The eyes are absolutely the key: they hook you immediately and they reel you in.
One look and you're bewitched.

Competition is hard and to be a star you first need to win big, but the star potential is absolutely there.
Don't think all the drama around her is due to the transer, as soon as she started to win she started to attract hate. I read (after translation) horrible articles that could be classified at cyberbullying even before the GP final.
But polarization is a sign that our girl drives strong emotions.

Hope Aliona had a great birthday and have a brighter year ahead!
Her new team has a dynamic and fun vibe - hope she's enjoying her time there:)

Sorry, what do you guys mean by "fatal"? I'm not sure what meaning you are going for but it's not clear... If it's "femme fatale", from French, then you mean "attractive or seductive"; the second being super creepy when used to describe a 17-year old. In any case, fatal means deadly, but in the purely negative sense, so I wouldn't use that word when describing a young skater.

That's a quote from an article by the Russian journalist Vladislav Zhukov:

I don't speak Russian, so I have no idea if the Google translation is correct, or if there is some different connotation in Russian.

My favorite photos from Aliona's birthday are definitely these:

It could be "fatal" (like 'femme fatale')
or it could be "of rock [music]"

And the 'audacity' is not good here, IMHO. 'Daring' better here.

Yes, of course!!!! Rozanov used this hashtag #5yearslikeoneday and he showed an old picture with Alyona. I think they worked together even before they arrived to Eteri.
It's possible.

One thing for sure is Aliona is going to control her own career and life.
In honor of Aliona's birthday, a couple of journalists wrote articles about her today. :agree:

I particularly enjoyed this one:
Why Alena Kostornaya is the main rock star of figure skating
https://tass.ru/opinions/9271689

Perhaps one of our Russian friends might translate some of the article for us, but I think you can get the gist from GoogleTranslate (the bolding is mine):

I totally agree with the author. Aliona does whatever she wants to and doesn't care what other people think. Some people--like me!--will admire her for her boldness, but others will criticize her for it.

Anastasia Panina--one of my favorite FS journalists--makes a similar point:
KOSTORNAYA - SEVENTEEN. WHY IS SHE SO GOOD?

GoogleTranslate (bolding is mine):

At Nationals, Aliona was wearing a sweatshirt that said "Rebel Chic," and I feel like that just fits her perfectly:

 :agree:

So no matter what other people say, I'm going to continue to root for our little rebel, our rock star! :hap10:
Whoever said Aliona is bold and audacious is correct. And those words are not an insult in any way. I mean who leaves her coach after being the top lady in the sport this past season with an almost perfect debut season? I think a lot of us here in this form wish we were a lot more bold and audacious in our own lives and careers and I include myself in with that. Aliona has that in spades and she has the it factor too. When skaters leave EG they don't score like they used to but I don't think aliona fears that possibility at all. She will take it on as a challenge and prove that to be old news.

Anyone know what happened with Alenas transfer to Plushy? I read in a Facebook Page ( from a post ) that the transfer is cancelled. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Cancelled? I believe didn't. Alyona remains Khrustalny's skater but she trains at Plushenko Academy guidance of Plushy and Rozanov.

She is definitely bold and audacious (without this you probably won't get to the top in sport), but I wouldn't attach that to the very opaque would-be switch from TT to AoP. Frankly, it seemed more like an act of desperation to me. The current situation, which is rather uncomfortable for her, cannot possibly have been planned. Of course, that doesn't mean it can't pay off in the end. Let's hope for the best, we'll know more in two weeks.

So if I understand this correctly, the transfer window is not there to limit when skaters may change coaches, but rather provides coaches with protection if their skaters leave outside of it, as they will still receive whatever moneys were associated with the skater, while the new coach will not, until the next transfer window opens, when the administrative/financial aspect of the transfer is completed. Which means then that coaches are less likely to take on skaters outside the transfer window, because, as Vasiliev says, they will be working for almost free.

Oh well. As long as Aliona is happy and enjoying herself, regardless of the situation with the transfer. I confess that I, um, may be developing a habit of scanning the background of the videos of Volkov's group posted on the Angels of Plushenko instagram, to see if I can catch any stray glimpses of her, because I am so curious about her programmes, and because, let's face it, she's not big on a public social media presence.

Not that i hard of it, she is training under plushenko and rozanov aswe have seen in the picturesthat we got on her birthday but will still skate for sambo70 since she changed coaches after the transfer window closed. Next season she will probably skate for angel of plushenko , if she stays with thsm

I liked that spiral in one of the pictures Plushenko posted. It looks like she improved her flexibility quite a bit. And I hope they bring her Ina Bauer back in one of her programs - I really missed it last season. An Aliona program isn't an Aliona program without an Ina Bauer into 2A. :)

Happy Birthday to one of the most beautiful skaters ever and an amazing, talented, funny human being! :cheer:

I cant beleive people think Aliona will slip up this season whatever it is. Her skills are now too good to just fall off. As for desperation I dont think she should have felt desperate when you look at the results and quality of her skating which was the best last season. Other things had to be the deciding factors to leave so suddenly and shockingly. We will probably never know and thats okay.
