So the first GP. The true test for her. Can she beat TuK, kihira and Liu? Can a miracle happen and she beat valieva
The 2 one I think if she can get 3A and land it complete clean she can beat a Shcherbakova with 4.

The first one is definitely the hardest. There are 6 potential girls that have 3A’s (Elizaveta, Alysa, Wakaba, Rika, Kamila, and Aliona) This means that Aliona no longer has the SP 3A advantage. Plus I know that at least Alysa and Kamila also backloads their combinations, so she also doesn’t get those few points.

But the true question is who can land them in the competition... Tuk can but loose for kostornaia in PCs, Alysa is growing .. I don't remember when was the last time she landed one, wakaba depends, Rika without any doubt.... Valieva has a goods 4 + 3A ... so she probably will be first ( I don't think kostornaia can beat her without a 4)

Aliona will have to either hope that Kamila gets lower pcs as a first senior(I do think Aliona should be getting higher pcs than Kamila) or that Kamila doesn't skate clean. Valieva isn't the most consistent skater too. Hopefully, Aliona trains for a quad right now.

if she is clean even without ultra si Alysa and Wakaba won't be a threat to her. she is so far ahead in GOE and PCS that i think she will hold her own. if i remember correctly, she also beat Tuk with a 3A in the short last season without one. Wakaba is pretty inconsistent, Liza is hit or miss and doesn't have the GOE or PCS, and Alysa is a first year senior without high GOE and PCS. so i think the podium is absolutely within reach for her.

Is the grand prix very important in an Olympic year? I feel like nationals and Europeans would hold much more weight because of how team selections work.

Yes, I think the GP events are extremely important.
Let's face it -- Nationals are not going to be judged fairly. The judges will be very generous/lenient with the skaters that they want to go to the Olympics, and they will be very harsh with skaters they don't want to make the team.

So if Aliona skates well in the GP series and gets high scores from the international judges, then I expect the Russian Fed to push for her to go to the Olympics. If she doesn't, then I think it won't really matter how well she skates at Nationals (unless she suddenly lands multiple quads).

Yes, Aliona is going to face tough competition in Canada, but I think she can't afford to worry about how the other skaters may perform. She needs to focus on skating beautifully, with three clean 3A's, at every competition. For her, I think consistency is key -- unless she starts landing a quad, then her best bet is to show that she is reliably excellent.

I also think a lot will depend on her programs, so I really, really hope Team Tut gave her some worthy programs, or at least ones that she really likes and can sell.

Totally agree. Aliona will perform beautifully, no doubt about that. The key is her 3A. I don't have high hope for a quad, because it takes time from start jumping it to jumping it with consistency. Aliona needs to practice her 3A first and foremost.

Of course I would be super happy if I'm wrong about the quad.

Agree. No one is a threat to Aliona at that GP aside from Kamila (Fingers crossed). Even without 3A, I would bet Aliona can get 80+ in SP.
It would be a showdown between them, but then Aliona even at her worst has shown some incredible consistency, a rare athlete can match.

I may be delusional, but I still have hope for a quad. I remember when Aliona's first year with the 3A was spectacular, no falls or pops on a new ultra c! No one had thought she would win all the international competitions that season, yet there she was.

Also in 2019-2020, we knew that she landed a 4S in practice and wanted to put it in her nationals program. So I believe that she could get it back.

There has always been some talk that she is the most cautious about trying new jump elements. In the recent videos she seems to be in a good state of mind, so maybe she can overcome her anxiety and we will see some quad attempts at least?
Physically and technically she is capable of 3A, 4S, 4T to my mind. It's a matter of mental state and discipline. Mental state looks good so far and discipline is back with Team Tutberidze.
