I’m sure she will land her 3A, she needs a little more time and to be more confident.
A little more time is what she has. I think she will hit her 3A but if she doesn't I still want to see her skate just the same because Aliona is such a beautiful skater. I feel the same way about Anya. If she never gets her quad's back I still want to see her skate and think she can score 220 or more points with her ultra jumps and it's the same with AK. I'm just frustrated for Aliona because she's not on point with her triple axel at this time and it's frustrating the hell out of her. The good news and she is close. She just needs a breakthrough. That could come at her next event.

I, like you, don't care much if Aliona or Anna won't jump quads or trixel.
Ultra C for them are a wow moment but do not define their skating: they have so much more to give than rotations.
I care for Sasha, 'cause defying gravity is her identity as a skater and as a brave young woman, even tough she seems finally finding her way to communicate on the ice and I love it.

Problem is the score system asks for it and they are competing not just performing.

Carolina struggled even in a sport where 3+3 was the max jump, but she was so beautiful to see.
The dearest memory I had of Fernandez is his ex after his last international competion: it was one of the most moving peace of skating I ever saw.

We will surely watch beautiful skaters with low TES for years, but will it be enough for them to be admired with no chances if not for an occasional podium and even deprived for a chance to perform at the most important events?
Will it be enough to justify the amount of sacrifice the life of a top skaters requires when there is not even good money in the sport?

I hope one day we will have a rich international calendar in which the top 50 skaters in the world can perform often and make a good living out of it.
That way we could have skater staying around instead of moving to TV and exibithion like Alina who's been a tremendous loss for the whole skating movement. The Seoul gold would always be the peak of her career but her best performances on the ice where yet to come.

You make some interesting points.

No it won't be enough for Aliona and Anna to just be skating and not getting on the podium.
They will make the podiums and some events because they will be able to score over 220 points and only 6 or 7 skaters can do that regularly. Most of them are in the same locker room. ;)

I am enjoying seeing nastya skate again. I thought her career was on life supported. she's a beautiful skater with artistry and interpretation that's pretty rare but she will probably never get to 220 points in her career. As far as scoring goes AK and Anna have set the bar so high it may be hard for them to adjust to just skating beautifully and score 220 points instead of 240 points. That said I think they both have a really good chance to get their ultra jumps back. If they do watch out.

It is amazing how sasha has survived all these quads without any issues. The only issue sasha has had is that focusing so much on quadruple jumps has taken away from her triples for triples like at worlds when she struggled with her triples in the short program and it really ended up costing her the gold.

Rika had a nice triple axle but then they moved on to quads and then she suffered injuries.

Figure skating is a niche sport we love the sport but we have to remember it's a niche sport. It's like you I would like the top 50 skaters to be able to make a living and have a long career. But the International skating Union is not exactly on top of things. Yet which is why we see a lot of performers leave the ice in their early twenties at least competitively. I like that small countries can go to world championships and Olympics and I would like to see the Olympics and world be expanded from say 24 Skaters to 34 skaters and take the top 10 in the world standing automatically. Thatcould keep people like Alina and Jenna moore involved competitively. If they need a mix of what golf and tennis do with their world rankings and we've including plenty of small countries so the sport can grow. I mean the pressure on these Russian girls to try to make the Olympic team is outrageous this is outrageous and it's taking a toll on them. It's amazing how healthy sasha and Liza have stayed. They are the exception rather than the rule.

I think aliona can still make the Olympic team. The 3rd spot is wide open. Heck the 2nd spot is whide open. Is the 1st spot is not wide open. :)

The next 2 and a 1/2 months will tell the story of who gets to go. Of course Russian ladies should have more than 3 spots in the Olympics and Russian pairs too for that matter. But they will need to get rid of the geezers at the ISU and get some new blood in there that's going to change things up a little bit and make things better. 1st things 1st the scoring is ridiculous every single competition and that never changes. Lol.

Udachi Alena! Go get one of those spots.
