Alena Kostornaia

It is a bit mindblowing but Liza skated really extremely well for her and was also quite overscored. It can very well change next time.
The problem is not really even Liza being overscored because she is skating well obviously. Aliona can skate cleaner and better. Liza's PCS scores are much too high. The problem is Kostornia is being treated by the judges like her name is Gubanova, Nugumanova, Guliakova, Konstantinova and Samodurova. :(

The term “improve” is relative in Aliona’s case.. the fight in our tiny devil is astonishing!! Her other competitors have had their programs for months while Aliona has two NEW programs at Canada and still managed a bronze!! At Finlandia she skated to different programs and, again, managed a bronze; if that does not take grit, I don’t know what does. If her team decides to mess with those programs one more time, I swear I will put on my Witch’s Hat and conjure up the worst whacking spell possible!!

Seriously though, I love the NEW programs and she is positively beautiful in the the dresses too. She has the gift of making anything thrown at her a personal signature. Hope those guiding her will move back and let her just get on with it, stepping in for positive reinforcement only. Aliona knows where and how those cards are stacked.. if anyone can overcome she can. All prayers and good vibes her way!
i think this weekend was a great starting point with an upward trajectory for her. she did reasonably well competing two brand new programs (3 weeks old) and didn't fall on anything. now that it should be smooth, uninterrupted training for her without any changes, i think she will look a lot better next time.

run the programs, drill the jumps, and you will gain your confidence Aliona! you can do it!

Macy, thank you for your optimism!

I was so worried for Aliona over the weekend. I will cross my fingers for Aliona and hope she improves even more next time and delivers skates, which make her smile. Confident 3A, confident combos and more energy.
If she could take gold in her next GP, it would be such a big confidence boost! Maybe I am a bit too hopeful, but I want to believe in the best scenario. If it’s silver, I hope she takes it with some very good points!

Aliona was absolutely magnetic in the gala- you could feel the difference with how much she loves the material. I cheered extra loud as she was coming off the ice and she smiled at me and bowed again!

She also seemed in good spirits through the medal ceremony and later during and after the All On Ice, so I think and hope she’s keeping everything in perspective. All is not lost and when she has that confidence back only good things can follow.

this is exactly what i mean!!! she still has the star power in her. she is already comfortable with this program/music, so we see the confidence and sureness in her skating. more mileage = strong Aliona. she never lost it, it just went dormant.
I actually think if not for her being a little bit less confident in her elements, we already saw this Aliona in SP. Her 3Lz her perfect! 3A was not perfect, but still clean (I insist on this, the q call was incorrect).
F-T a little less perfect than she can do, but the overall mood and expression in the program still showed the old energetic and confident Aliona.

Now I am crossing my fingers that by France she’ll get it perfectly polished and executes it without any hesitation. :)
